The "what's the point of this again?" bit. Half of the world is going to think it's precursor to arbcom, the other half are probably not going to look to closely since the _point_ isn't clear, and the other half are going to be going for the jugular no matter what.

So here if someone *cough* would write out a nice clear concise explanation of what they hoped would happen by raising this, all would be right with the world.

Revision as of 01:28, 2 April 2007

In order to remain listed at Misplaced Pages:Requests for comment, at least two people need to show that they tried to resolve a dispute with this user and have failed. This must involve the same dispute with a single user, not different disputes or multiple users. The persons complaining must provide evidence of their efforts, and each of them must certify it by signing this page with ~~~~. If this does not happen within 48 hours of the creation of this dispute page (which was: 22:51, 1 April 2007 (UTC)), the page will be deleted. The current date and time is: 18:03, 17 January 2025 (UTC).

Users should only edit one summary or view, other than to endorse.

Statement of the dispute

The user has demonstrated a clear pattern of tendentious editing on paranormal-related articles. It has become a chronic disruption on multiple pages, and there appears to be no end or even slowdown in sight: out of the user's 1300+ mainspace contributions, quite literally 100% have been on articles relating to parapsychology or the paranormal. In a significant portion of those, the user has been involved in content disputes.

Desired outcome

It should be sufficient that the user be admonished to significantly reduce (if not end) his participation in all articles related to parapsychology and the paranormal. He certainly has other interests and should contribute to articles related to those.

Description

The user

  • consistently seeks on multiple articles to have parapsychology described in a way this is favorable to his POV.
  • selectively applies WP:ATT and WP:CITE so as to achieve this goal.
  • directs new users who are likely to be sympathetic to his views to an off-site, Misplaced Pages/paranormal advocacy webpage.
  • has created sock/meat puppets to further his views.
  • has repeatedly engaged in revert wars.
  • is chronically involved in content disputes.

  5. weakening sentences that have explicit negative evaluations of parapsychology/the paranormal
  6. edit warring on the crop circles article (did not result in block)
  7. enshrining his own position into a guideline by adding an example to WP:WTA related to crop circles while being involved in a dispute on the crop circles article
  8. the edit war that ensued (did not result in block)
  9. cherry-picking all and only the entries related to parapsychology as requiring citation despite the problem being endemic to virtually all entries on the list
  10. the edit war that ensued (resulted in block)
  11. welcoming a new user and directing him/her to off-site material warning parapsychology proponents about individual Misplaced Pages users and articles on the paranormal
