He disappeared for a period of time after the ] field trip; when the people running the reenactment that they visited noticed that the students had sneaked in and gave chase. Üter was left behind to be clubbed with the butts of the faux rifles that the men reenacting the Civil War were wielding. Although a joke was made of this event in a later episode, with Üter's parents asking Skinner where their missing son was (''Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner''), he has since reappeared, alive and plump.

In the dubbed German version of the show ''Üter'' is ] and not German; for the German audience Üter's ] and his frequent references to chocolate fit more to stereotypes the Germans connect to the Swiss and not themselves, although for most non-Germans the character fits well to popular clichés about the Germans.
