== Personal story == | |||
It is mainly explained in the manga ], genesis of ].
Goku is a creature born from the concentration of the earth in a rock. Discovered on earth by a god, it is considered an aberration. The gods decide to take him to heaven, and the deity ] entrusts him to Konzen Koji, responsible for caring for and educating him. Konzen is assisted in this task by Kenren Taishô and Tenpô Gensui. It is Konzen who gives him his name of Son Goku, which means {{quote|one who can see what is invisible to others}}.
Goku quickly grows attached to his guardian Konzen and the other two gods. He also becomes friends with ], god of war.
As a result of Ritoten's plot, Goku loses control of himself. He then commits the irreparable by killing a large number of people in paradise. Konzen, Kenren and Tenpô, who try to flee paradise with him, are killed during their journey. Goku is then locked up for 500 years in a cave on Mount Gogyo, the entrance to which is sealed. Bozatsu, as a show of compassion, suppresses his memory entirely, except for the memory of his own name.
During this period, he begins to silently call for help. Five hundred years after his imprisonment, ]), who feels called, rescues him from the cave of Mount Gogyo.
Goku then becomes one of the four members of the Sanzō-ikkō (band of Sanzō), sent west by Bozatsu to stop the resurrection of the bull demon ].
== Personality and relationships with other characters ==
Goku's name originally comes from the term Go-Kyu ({{5th}} Kyu in Karate, which is the blue belt rank; however, Minekura gives a different meaning to the name.
Goku gets along well with everyone, especially his three companions from Sanzō-ikkō, ], ] and ] for whom he feels a strong affection, which resembles that which he felt for their previous incarnation five hundred years earlier, although he had forgotten all about that period of his life.
Just like the ] of ], Goku likes to eat and fight a lot. He does not think about the consequences of his actions (especially when it comes to sparing people's susceptibility, fighting or simply expressing what he feels). He is quite naive, which also poses many problems for the other members of the group. However, his character evolves during the manga, gaining in maturity.
