Euripides Laskaridis (1975, Athens) is a Greek director, choreographer and performer. He is known for exploring themes of ridicule and transformation in his work, which spans both the theatre and film industries as well as site-specific productions and seminar workshops. His career encompasses directing, choreography, and performance, including award-winning short films and documentaries, showcasing his versatility in the arts. He is also the founder of the performing arts company OSMOSIS, which has gained international recognition.

Early Life and Education

Laskaridis was born in Athens on July 6, 1975. He studied acting at the Karolos Koun Art Theatre in Athens and later pursued advanced studies in directing and choreography at Brooklyn College in New York, supported by a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation. In 2000, he began directing his own works, including theatre performances, site-specific projects, and short films.

Career

Since 1995 has collaborated with prominent artists, including Dimitris Papaioannou,, Robert Wilson and Dionysis Savvopoulos. In 2009, he founded OSMOSIS, a performing arts company through which he develops his artistic vision, often focusing on non-linear narratives, the grotesque and the transformations of the human form.

In 2016 he received one of the inaugural Pina Bausch Foundation fellowships which allowed him to study the work of director and choreographer Lemi Ponifasio, internationally. In 2017 he was recognized as a "Promising Talent" by the German magazine Tanz and in 2022 he received the "Onassis Air" scholarship, from the Onassis Foundation, to support his artistic research.

Artistic Activity

Laskaridis’s work integrates practices of theatre, dance and visual arts. Common materials and everyday objects, often repurposed, appear in his works, which typically follow a non-linear narrative. He is notably concerned with elements of the grotesque and transformation. The alteration of the performer through the deformation and exaggeration of physical features is often used in his work as a means of highlighting his interest in a reconstruction of the genders.

Through OSMOSIS, Laskaridis collaborates with a core group of artists to produce works that have toured internationally, gaining critical acclaim. The company’s productions are known for their imaginative and surreal qualities, often blending humor and introspection.
