Occupation(s) | Actor, Comedian, Television Presenter |
Edward Oliver James Petrie (born 22 August 1978) is a British actor, comedian and television presenter. He was born, and grew up in, Rustington, and was educated at nearby Ardingly College. He currently lives in Brockley.
On 3 September 2007, he became the principal presenter for CBBC. Ed and puppet Oucho the Cactus present the CBBC Channel on weekdays, from 3:25pm to 7:00pm.
Previous presenting work includes hosting various children's programmes, on Nickelodeon, from January 2005 until September 2007, including Slime Across The UK and The Crunch. He also presented the CBBC game show Wonderful World of Weird.
In 2002, Ed was a researcher for the BBC programme, They Think It's All Over and, in 2005, was the comedy sketch writer for BBC Radio 1's The Milk Run.
He was a finalist in both, So You Think You're Funny? and York's comedy festival, National Talent Hunt in 2003. The following year, Ed was a semi-finalist in the BBC's New Comedy Awards.
Acting work has included appearances in the Channel 4 comedy programmes Green Wing and Smack the Pony.
Oucho the Cactus
Oucho the Cactus is a puppet cactus and sidekick to Ed Petrie, presenter of CBBC. He is puppeteered by Warrick Brownlow-Pike.
Oucho speaks a cactus form of language called Cactinian. He was born in a garden centre just off the A1 road on the 28th January, and spent much of his life in Anne Robinson's office, of whom he is now terrified; Basil Brush also disturbs him greatly. Oucho loves bananas, balloons and lemonade. He is also a big fan of Dolly Parton, as well as Country and Western music (he dreams of releasing a single called The Crazee Cactus Song).
Over the Christmas period, Oucho insisted Ed should decorate the office with what is known in Cactinian as a "Kiki Dee". As humans add a festive Christmas tree to their homes, cacti apparently prefer a 'Christmas Man' mannequin.
