  • Software Wikia is a wiki specialised on software using semantic extras. If a nice article does not have the required Misplaced Pages:Notability, simply export it and ask an admin for an import there.
  • WikiProject Free Software is now merged with WikiProject Software. The link to WikiProject Free Software is Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Software/Free Software.
  • To better serve Misplaced Pages, WikiProject Malware is now under the parent of WikiProject Computer Security. All Malware articles are currently being transferred over to the new project. In any case, you are welcome to join at WikiProject Computer Security!
  • All members of WikiProject Software are urged to install the Centralized Announcement System on their talk page.
  • I have changed the participant (members) table by replacing the Task column with Area of Expertise. I also introduced a new template based status system so as to "arrange" the members according to whether they are active, semi-active, inactive, or retired. Please update your entry accordingly.
  • New IRC server! The old channel on Freenode is not used anymore. See See here. Manual for using IRC can be found here for why. Find us at:
Server host irc.libera.chat
Port 6697
channel #wikipedia-en-software

AfD nomination of Truth & Consequences

An editor has nominated Truth & Consequences, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Truth & Consequences and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 13:59, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Question from Brenden Long

Why are my contributions to the Start Menu page considered spam?

-Brenden Long (User:Brendenlong) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brendenlong (talkcontribs) 23:47, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

How about just adding a note that there are alternatives, without the list. That way people know that there are alternatives to the Start Menu for Windows. I'm personally a big fan of alternative shells and shell enhancements for Windows. :)

-Brenden —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brendenlong (talkcontribs) 00:05, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Or would it possibly be a good idea for an entirely new article, considering the number of alternatives available?

-Brenden —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brendenlong (talkcontribs) 00:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi there!

First I must say that I'm NOT Native English Speaker, so please be sorry.
Thank you for your feedback, I think that the "Windows 7" logo was correct and it isn't fake at all, It just unclaimed by Microsoft, you can search "Windows 7" images in images.google.com or visit www.windows7.cc
I apologized for uploading Windows 7 image, which was in development.Hippy deluxe (talk) 13:40, 27 January 2008 (UTC) This template must be substituted, see Template:Smile for instructions

Windows NT Architecture - releases table

Hi! Re. the last part of our previous exchange, please take a look at Talk:Windows_NT/Sandbox/Windows_NT_processor_architecture_table . Any comments/edits/suggestions/brickbats? Jeh (talk) 11:23, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Windows2000.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Windows2000.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 03:05, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

I looked through your contributions and I believe that when you have reverted edits, you have done so appropriately. So, I have added rollback rights to your account. Please note that rollback should be used only for blatant vandalism and does not leave a useful edit summary. I hope you find it useful, but if not, just ask and I will remove it. —Remember the dot 02:12, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Windows NT Discontinued Software

I feel that the Category:Discontinued Microsoft software is a better category for this software title. It is more sutable that the other one. please give it a chance. Windows NT 4.0 is not a very popular system. It makes more sense to use the Category:Discontinued Microsoft software Windows XP 64 bit edition is also in this category. Lets try it and see what happens!

Thanks

Hello... thanks for catching the glitch at Hiro Nakamura. I'm not sure what was going on, but I had problems with several edits at around that time. Slow edits, edits not happening, and once even reaching a "Wikimedia database error" screen. I thought I'd cleaned up all of the problems, but I must have missed one. Thanks again. --Ckatzspy 00:39, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Dont Worry

Im sorry that you thought it was vandalism I just couldnt figure out how the IE's were page attached to them and that IE8 is now out i'd thought i would change it to keep it up to date, Sorry, im not that gd with wikipedia! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamieostrich (talkcontribs) 19:15, 10 March 2008 (UTC) Also thanks for updating it, can you please tell me how you changed the links, thanks

IE7 was released alongside Vista

The XP version of IE7 may have been released earlier, but "corresponding releases" means whenever an IE version has been released, around the same time, a major update to Windows has also been released. That will not be the case for IE8, if you use common sense. I guess "to each his own" and you love reverting edits/starting edit wars. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 221.128.180.139 (talk) 09:12, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

IE8 development start

It's still a conclusion you reached yourself. You can't just add loosely implied information to Misplaced Pages. Try finding a third party source that backs up this claim. Finding a third party source would also help prove that the August 2007 date is notable, when it is doubtful that development actually didn't start until then. (The Acid2 rendering at the start of the video is already quite different from IE7 and it wouldn't make sense from them to sit around doing very little between finishing IE7 and then.)

On the other hand, is it impossible that the August screenshot was from some other project that was later merged into IE8? - Josh (talk | contribs) 16:02, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

The screenshots show work beyond IE7 that eventually made it into IE8. Whether development occurred before then I don't know, but we know from these screenshots that work on improving the rendering engine was going on in August 2007. This is the best date we have to go on for how long Microsoft has been working on this. Whether Microsoft was developing IE8 at the time or developing another project that eventually merged with IE8 doesn't make much difference; the work all went into IE8 in the end. —Remember the dot 22:01, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

You are a dog of Microsoft

...And a sock puppet. I base this on the clear and present truth that you only edit Microsoft related articles, making you in all actuality a PR member.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Winmine.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Winmine.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:11, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Windows Vista

Hi Josh, thanks for reverting my edit to Windows Vista. I had been trying to remove a couple of spam links from a spammer I had been following. Sorry I messed up the article - I don't know how I ended up removing those particular bits of text, I think I may have accidentally edited an earlier version. Anyway, thanks for spotting that and reverting. Best, Gwernol 17:24, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Mac OS X v10.6

See the reference section for citation of the release dates. For example see . Note the bit "Separately, developers attending WWDC 2008 were provided with a physical Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard installation disc, pictured below, containing the first build of the next-generation operating system to leave Apple's corporate boundaries." PaleAqua (talk) 16:53, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Odd looks like the date got removed, I was sure I remember it being more specific in that section when I first read it. Only the Safari stuff has a date. Guess that leaves the date as undefined between the monday 9th and the 10th. 10th since that was the date of the article and the 9th since that was the start of WWDC. Unfortunately when doing more digging I found some sources that say it (not sure if the same build) was released so some developers as early as June 5th. Sounds like removing the date was the right thing to do. PaleAqua (talk) 18:04, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

RTM vs Ship Date

The way I understand this is that the release to manufacturing is the date on which Microsoft ships the final code to the people who print the disks, Which makes it Microsoft's ship date, something completely different than the GA date. Though I will admit that I am possibly misinterpreting the article, its not like Microsoft has been exactly clear on the subject. (You also have to consider that not a single Microsoft OS has ever been delivered on time, at least not to the month.)I think its best overall to leave the 2010 date as it is certainly more likely than even December 2009. Also the 2010 date was alone in the side box on the Win 7 page, I added the 2009 date there so its not like I completely disagree with you, not to mention that I was the one who added Steve Ballmers announcement of the 2009 date in the first place. -- Anthony S. Castanza (talk) 08:20, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Vmware/Microsoft

There are news publications stating that Hyper-V competes with ESX server. I think pointers to competing products improve both articles. Thank you. Setraspdopaduegedfa (talk) 00:25, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

MS-DOS 7.10 license

I've created a screenshot of Microsoft Virtual PC, running MS-DOS 7.10 It clearly displays, that it is licensed under GPL. screenshot

I believe, that this license applies to the whole software.

Microsoft

Judging by your contributions, you seem rather focused on Microsoft software. Why is this? XNP (talk) 18:59, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Windows is my area of expertise, and Microsoft-related articles tend to be vandalism magnets. - Josh (talk | contribs) 19:22, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

THE CHANGE ON THE OS PAGE WAS NOT ADVERTISING.

Why did you delete my edits?

I was only making the topics more interesting. An heroes are much more interesting than just plain old heroes. Isn't it lulzworthy to see someone pwn themselves? /b/ forever! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.227.41.100 (talk) 05:04, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Neither of the pages I edited were on reality. Both were on works of fiction. Thus the rules of reality need not apply. An heroes are more lulzworthy than regular heroes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.227.41.100 (talk) 05:14, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Mitchell Henderson was a real boy who really did commit suicide after his iPod was stolen. I didn't make that up, look it up for yourself... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.227.41.100 (talk) 05:36, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Is it really more important?

The short answer is yes. If you are specifically speaking to someone else's comments, you can says so. Preserving chrono order allows new arrivals to the conversation (or participants) to understand what went into the entirety of your reply. You likely replied because the person who subsequently posted didn;t address what you felt needed a reply. It's a more genuine approach, wouldn't you agree? - Arcayne () 18:22, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

It isn't a matter of tolerance, Josh. It's part of our guidelines for discussion pages. - Arcayne () 23:33, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Revert

My bad. I must have been tired when I added that extra period, as I apparently didn't notice the interwiki markup.  :/ It was more of, so I could place something in the edit summery, directed to another editor. I'll be more careful next time.— dαlus /Improve 07:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Please.

Please leave the iMagic OS page alone and I will leave you alone. It is cited, as well as can be, from the website. There is no other form of citations possible. It is not a stub, the headings will expand with time, thats how a wiki works. Just give it some time to be developed by the community. For example, take a look at a page I started, Harold La Borde, look at the history. It started out very insignificant, a stub, as you would have it. But now it has info I didn't even know, and he's my Father's uncle. You see? Please, lets stop fighting and work as a community. Thank You. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.206.224.176 (talk) 20:14, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Huh?

I did not write much about the software, I just gave links to them. You can minimize that text, but the way you did it made it look like nothing. I merely stated the things that set it apart. The website is the only citation. It is relatively new. I understand, now, about adding that stub marking, thanks, I will do that. And if someone is chopping a page into a quarter, and then marking it a stub, that is not quite community like either, eh? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.206.224.176 (talk) 13:35, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

CNR

CNR is a client, not just a website dude. It has .cnr files, that it installs from. I would call that package management. And cut out with the "iOffice is OpenOffice" stuff, its just not true. Thanks about the editions though, I did not know how to do bullets. They all looked like one sentence stubs with headers. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.206.224.176 (talk) 01:29, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
