Catholic

Hi. While it is nice that you want to reduce the number of Misplaced Pages references to "Roman Catholic" as opposed to "Catholic", which some agree is more inclusive when considering the Eastern Catholic Churches, your recent edits are problematic. In relation to most of the articles on church buildings and people, these do belong to the Latin Church and so are indeed Roman Catholic and not Eastern Catholic or merely Catholic. You have created a lot of references to articles and categories that do not exist. Now some of these categories should exist, but you should work at creating consensus about them first. I would suggest starting at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Catholicism where there is an active discussion about the organization of such categories. Elizium23 (talk) 02:59, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Response: There are no other Catholic diocese in New York. None of the sixteen documents of Vatican II refer to th Catholic Church as the "Roman" Catholic Church. Please see article on Richard McBrien, chairman of theology department, University of Notre Dame, who states the Catholic Church does not identify itself as "Roman Catholic," and that it is entitled to self-identification of its choice. While other denominations have a right to call themselves Catholics, the do not have a right to tell Catholics that they are actually "Roman" Catholics. Thank you. ~Rev. James T. I don't care what you think, the fact remains that you are breaking links and you have no consensus for your changes. You can't just break wikilinks without moving the articles to which they refer. However, you have no consensus to rename those articles, just as you have no consensus to make the rest of the modifications. So you will be reverted again, and again and again. Also—please read Catholic (term) for a discussion on the term—the Church certainly does call herself that in official documents. Elizium23 (talk) 05:12, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
Also, there actually is at least one other Catholic diocese in New York, the Armenian Catholic Diocese of New York, whose episcopal see is Our Lady of Nareg Cathedral in New York City. So even in that instance changing "Roman Catholic" to "Catholic" is factually inaccurate. Also, in at least one place you replaced a link to Roman Catholic as "Catholic" when the term was being used to specifically mean Roman (Western) Catholicism in contrast to Eastern Catholicism. --NellieBly (talk) 05:17, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
There are lots of Eastern Catholic eparchies in New York. Here is a list of eparchies. Just because an eparchy is not headquartered in New York City does not mean that it does not have territorial jurisdiction there. Believe me when I say there are plenty of Eastern Catholics in NYC and their pastoral needs are met by Eastern Catholic bishops who govern an Eastern Catholic eparchy that should be distinguished from Roman Catholic dioceses in the same territory. Please stop

There certainly ARE Catholic dioceses, orders, and groups that are not Roman in any way, shape, or form (for example, Ukrainian Catholics, a huge group where I live.) Your edits are breaking links and go against long-held consensus that the name of the Roman Catholic Church should and must contain "Roman". I am currently reverting all of your deletions of "Roman". Please stop. --NellieBly (talk) 04:41, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
