Welcome to my talk page.
House Rules
  1. I may or may not respond to a post you make here on this page, I will try to respond, but if I don't, you will survive, I'm sure.
  2. If I revert or remove your post from my page, it could be that I do not find the discussion germane to me; alternately it could be that I find something in the posting to be preachy or pedantic, in which case I will simply revert or remove your post. I am busy living in Japan, and if I hit one button rather than another, on my own talk page, I am a 5-year editor, not some vandal, and really don't need to be roasted. Whiny, self-important editors threaten with "I'll get your x taken away" or "you'll never make admin"... I could care less.
  3. This is not your talk page, this is my talk page, and I do not allow edit wars on here. If you are a legal positivist, if the "rules" of Misplaced Pages in your mind overrule respect for the privacy and pages of others, or if you are a creepy Wikistalking troll, you have your own talkpage which is your own playground to do exactly what you wish. This is not it, and you are not welcome to it.
  4. Complaint against me? Be patient, my perennial wikistalker is sure to get in touch with you soon and apologize for my ill behavior. It would be funny if it were not pathetic.
  5. Friends and colleagues are most welcome, and none of the above is meant for you.

Non-free Scout logo

When you remove {{Non-free Scout logo}}, you are also removing the category. Please place those images into some category so that we don't loose them. ---— Gadget850 (Ed)  12:10, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

You also need to change the rationale from non-free. And they should be marked for move to Commons. ---— Gadget850 (Ed)  12:12, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
Nice to hear from you! Okay, I will find a good category. Some are ready to move to Commons, some should be improved before we kick them out of the nest. I will make sure we don't lose them, and they do us proud.
Also, you have several ZHP images marked ZHR. They are separate competing orgs, just the name is close in Polish. They should all be ZHP.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 13:19, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Scouting/Article incubator/German-speaking Scouts in Namibia

Hello Kintetsubuffalo. I've come across your tagging of this page and would like to remind you that {{notenglish}} should really only be used for articles in the article namespace. If you would like to have it translated, please list the page at the "Cleanup" section at WP:PNT with a short explanation. It has to go there because the "Pages for consideration" section is reserved for articles, and pages listed there have a deadline of 14 days. If you have more questions about translations, please ask them here, I'll watch your page. Regards, De728631 (talk) 20:43, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

I've gone ahead now and translated the titles and quotations on that page; but only because I remembered to have look at it, not because it was marked at "Pages needing translation". The "notenglish" template does not automatically list the page at WP:PNT, that's why there is an instruction on the template tag. You have to do that yourself after tagging a page. That said, good luck with future Pfadfinder articles. De728631 (talk) 19:25, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
That's wonderful, thank you so much for your help! Also thank you for the legwork, I don't know everything, so it's nice that others know things I don't! :) --Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 06:53, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Scout emblem - inquiry at WP:UKRAINE

It does not look like a Ukrainian COA. It looks one of the towns of the former Ryazan vice-royalty, Russia - see commons:Category:Coats_of_arms_of_cities_and_villages_of_Ryazan_Region. The towns of the southern frontier of the former governorate are now not in Ryazan Oblast but in Lipetsk Oblast, Voronezh Oblast etc. and some were abandoned or downgraded to villages. The upper half (Ryazan ) is easily identifiable, although the sword is curved, not straight as it should be (there are two options for this part - either sword, sheath and hat in upper half, or just the hat in a small escutcheon like here). Bottom half - which identifies the town - ??? East of Borschov 19:15, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Can I ask why you think this is the work of the UK Government? I may be wrong, but I strongly doubt there were UK Government photographers at the Tripartite Pact. The fact the IWM has a copy of the photo (or even the original) does not mean they own the copyright. J Milburn (talk) 15:28, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

It's got "Imperial War Museum" stamped on it, all others I have seen on Commons (and had removed as watermarking) are tagged thus. I don't know why they do that, maybe they had observers or spies? Forgive me if I'm missing an earlier issue with this editor, but I just went thru an unpleasant interaction with an IP (who had to be blocked) on this article. I see where your first action was a rollback, whereas I understand it can be a close call as to whether to use rollback or undo, perhaps undo might have resulted in the editor taking less offense since his edit would not have been labeled as vandalism. I regret to inform you that you have been blocked for 24 hours because of your edit warring at Japanese place names. Your accusations are hollow. I blocked the anon for exactly the same amount of time as I blocked you. I've taken no sides here except the one against edit warring. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 07:02, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
Didn't know blocks were all around, for that at least I thank you. Still it's improper to remove images during a deletion discussion, trying to shoehorn the answer they wanted by forcing POV changes here. That should have been considered-contentious editors brought the fight over from Commons, I didn't, I was fighting bad removals. Anyway how much time is left on this turkey? I don't want to jump the gun and get in more trouble than I already don't need.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 08:01, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
Your block is for 24 hours. In a future situation like this, after you have reverted twice, notify the administrators noticeboard, and then leave it be. "Restored" article?

Curious as to your decision to restore the "List of foreign place names in Japanese" but having it as part of your sandbox. If my memory serves me, after I had started the article, a decision was made that it would be better for this type of article to be housed at Wiktionary instead of at Misplaced Pages, it was deleted in Misplaced Pages, but also not created in Wiktionary. Since its deletion, the Japanese article has been beefed up, as have the German article. CJLippert (talk) 00:36, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm not planning to use it "as-is", I need the information from it for a local placename etymology article. So nice for everyone to question me on this undelete request.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 06:42, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

So often with these images, it's very hard to tell. I'd say there's about a fiffty-fifty chance it's PD, but it's gonna be hard to prove. We really need to know who the original author is, or, failing that, when/where it was first published. The current "source" is not so useful in that regard. Marxist MIR and FPMR guerrilla groups

I wonder if you can help with the Spanish page dealing with the Marxist MIR and FPMR guerrilla groups in Chile in the 70s and 80s: ] . There are two individuals bent on sweeping their crimes under the carpet. I don't think this is fair, for I have provided reliable sources. There are many lies propagated by the left, like the belief held by many ill informed Chileans, that 200,000 to 1 million were exiled and the vast majority of the armed forces personnel, that appear in their roll of honour, were in fact killed at the hands of their superiors. This is an insult to their families. In reality their were a handful (about a dozen) that were court-martialled and shot, although over a hundred were jailed or exiled. I strive to separate fact from fiction, but instead get penalized for it.--Breitkopf (talk) 23:08, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Scouting & Asia...

While I have interests in both scouting and Asia (I was a scout, am an Alpha Phi Omega historian, lived in Taiwan for two years and Alpha Phi Omega also exists in the Philippines), the area where I am most comfortable is filling in tables of events like National Fraternity Conventions and Jamborees. The information on jamborees for the Interamerican Zone seems fairly complete, to the point where I wonder if User:Inauditous got the rest from a single site (which should be referenced). BTW, the phrase "Even today, the Interamerican Region exists more for the benefit of countries south of the Rio Grande, as evidenced by the website being only in Spanish; consequently, the United States and Canada do not participate as vigorously in regional activities as do other national organizations around the world." seems inappropriate for wikipedia.Naraht (talk) 18:28, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

It could be written better, but it is factual. The other regions function as a whole (Jp, SK, ROC, Ph, Indo seem to be the big dogs, but even Iran and Kiribati have a say). BSA makes sense to me, kind of like the US at the UN, it pretty much does what it wants, size and power-but then Indonesia is so much bigger and they play ball. Canada I can't explain, but they aren't as active in the Region as other countries. Have you suggestions?
Ps-how was Taiwan? Everyone suggests to go there, it's friendly but humid, apparently.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 18:43, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
It may be factual, but it is completely unreferenced, even the website isn't identified. There are both English and French speaking islands in the Caribbean, I wonder if they are equally excluded. Unless it is referenced, I think it should be deleted. BTW,I don't know if Iran still is a member of the Asia Pacific, I know their scouts were nuked after the Revolution.
I liked Taiwan, definitely humid. It is about half way between Miami and Havana in Latitude I think. It has been 20 years since I was there...Naraht (talk) 01:31, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Re: Scouting in Yugoslavia

No problem. This made more sense to me because the SCG page now described a comparatively minor part of the complete history. The main question now is how much of the SCG page was generic, i.e. how much of it also applied in the 1950-1991 period too, not just 1995-2006. Those parts should be moved to a higher header level. --Joy (talk) 20:05, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. Well, it'll be pretty straightforward to work on this for someone who actually knows anything about these guys. I have no idea about scouting, I just did this to help clear out the obsolete category Category:Organizations based in Serbia and Montenegro :) --Joy (talk) 20:11, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

You deserve a more complete explanation.

When I first starting deleting PRODs, I checked to make sure that the original author was notified (some exceptions, e.g. original author not active). However, when I ran across my first PROD with no notification, and contacted the editor, I was informed that notifying was encouraged but not required. I thought we should notify, so I attempted to tighten up the language here, but as you can see, I failed to persuade.

That left me with limited options. I couldn't insist that notification occur, and if I just abandoned those without notification, someone else might come along and delete without adding the notification. I adopted my own personal rule. If I saw a PROD where I thought notification was warranted, I would do the notification myself before the deletion. To be sure, only seconds before, so it doesn't provide enough time to contest the deletion, but it does provide notification so the author could request userfication or other remedies. If you have a better approach, I'm all ears.

(As an aside, kudos on the scouting work you do. One of my regrets in life is that I stopped at Life, but I was part of an active scouting family.)--SPhilbrickT 12:47, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for adding a fair use rationale to this image. Ásatrú Scouting and Guiding

Are you sure that this organization really exists? I couldn't find anything except the ebay offer by a spanish ebay trader. It could be a scam; the fleur-de-lis was taken from Misplaced Pages. Is there any other proof of the existence of these groups? --jergen (talk) 21:21, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

That the fleur-de-lis was taken from Misplaced Pages is what drew my attention to it-somebody does read us! ;) It is too elaborate to be a hoax, with the attention to detail; in addition, I have known that seller for 18 years, he's (or was) head of the International Badgers Club Spanish Tejones, so while I don't have proof, I am taking it on good faith. Mostly I was impressed that someone chose to use our design.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 00:22, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Could you ask the seller for further informations? An organization with such elaborate ranks should have some written-down rules for advancement or some bylaws. And the seller should have some contact closer to the organization.
I didn't bring his contact info with me to Japan-I will do some searching for it.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 23:23, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
BTW, the depiction of Sleipnir on the "Knight of Odin" badge is not correct, the designer included some ornaments between the legs, that aren't part of the horse, but are shown on the Tjängvide image stone. The Valknut was taken from File:Valknut-Symbol-triquetra.svg and the Valkyrie from File:Valkyrie.jpg. I'm not really convinced that a real-world organization practicising Asatru would take most of its symbols from Misplaced Pages or Commons.
Not so fast-anybody practicing that religion might know those symbols-I would argue the triangles and the little gold effigy one you pointed me to could be gotten from any source. You know way more about the religion than I do-I didn't even know what to call some of those, but it doesn't follow they got those here-a Google search would do.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 23:23, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
It's also unclear how there should be enough members in Sweden to form a Scout unit; the largest group in Sweden, Swedish Asatru Assembly, has about 300 members all over the country; there is no local structure for Malmö , but one comprising the whole south of Sweden. The Norwegian no:Foreningen Forn Sed - the largest organization in the country - has only 100 members, mostly in Oslo and Trondheim ; how can they run a unit in Stavanger?
That is a good series of questions and I appreciate your legwork on this. It could also be that there are believers who are not registered with a church or org-I am that way (different religion though), so probably I am not counted as a member.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 23:23, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
And why is there a separate organization in the US with BSA accepting Asatru units (eg former Troop 1239; Great Salt Lake Council)? --jergen (talk) 09:33, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
That's a question for Egel-that was not information I had, and I don't know if that counts as Scouting.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 08:20, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
Do you have a source for the Salt Lake troop? That would be worthwhile to add to the article.
I'll do my best, thanks for your hard work!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 23:23, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

ShouldBePNG on photographs

Hi, Kintetsubuffalo. I see you've placed a {{ShouldBePNG}} tag several times on the file description pages for File:Vietnamese Scout Association LangBian Dalat.jpg and File:Union of Burma Boy Scouts campout.jpg. I don't understand why you think this is a good idea:

  1. These are photographs, for which the JPEG format is the most appropriate choice; see Misplaced Pages:Image use policy#Format.
  2. It is true that the PNG format provides lossless compression, but for photographs a bit of lossiness in compression is acceptable because it is unnoticeable by the human eye (unless the compression is too high, in which case the {{Overcompressed JPEG}} tag would be appropriate).
  3. The compression algorithm used by the PNG format, while lossless, performs much more poorly on photographic images than does the JPEG compression algorithm, so a PNG version of a photograph is almost always many times larger than a JPEG version.
  4. Moreover, in the case of File:Vietnamese Scout Association LangBian Dalat.jpg, I am sure that the original file, created by a digital camera, was saved in the JPEG format (and is perhaps even the exact file that was uploaded here), so the only way we could get a PNG version of that image is to directly convert a JPEG version to PNG—but the compression artifacts from the original JPEG compression will still be there (PNG compression is lossless, but the information was lost before the PNG compression algorithm ever saw it; the PNG image will be identical to the JPEG image, pixel for pixel, including the JPEG compression artifacts), so we haven't gained anything in image quality, and the resulting file size will be many times greater.

I am going to remove the {{ShouldBePNG}} tag again from these images. If you still feel that the tag should be there, please explain why, because I can see no reason for it. —Bkell (talk) 00:25, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

AN/I and TPH

I'm not 100% sure if your comment was directed at me or Paul Erik (or possibly both of us), but I do want to point out that I did not bring up TPH's edit-warring, even though I noticed it, because as I said at AN/I, my intention is not to get TPH blocked. I think the more AN/I threads he starts about Hullabaloo while simultaneously edit-warring and making insults elsewhere, the more likely it is that an admin is going to get tired of it and block him, which is why I think it's in his best interest and everybody's just to be a little more diligent with these AfD nominations and stay off HW's talk page. That's not an unreasonable suggestion, is it? 28bytes (talk) 05:57, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

In itself it's not, but why is no one suggesting doing something about HW? TPH doesn't go out of his way to insult people, HW makes it an artform. There's a double-standard there, the level of good editors getting frustrated and leaving has increased while the scab-pickers are coddled. If you honestly are trying to watch out for TPH, thanks, but... making it TPH's issue doesn't address the underlying problem, it just says "look in the mirror". Sometimes that's the case, sometimes it's not. I try to avoid editors I dislike, but sometimes they get in my face and won't stop. My sister played the same game when we were kids, I was patient to excess, until she crossed the line and I threw a punch. Of course I became the bad guy and was punished, which is what she wanted all along. It's the same thing. (my sister and I are fine now, 30 years on, thanks) Somebody needs to step in and be dad and send them both to corners, something like a contact ban.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 06:16, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm familiar with that childhood game, and yeah, I do see iterations of that around here from time to time. :) Like I said, I think the best way for TPH to avoid HW is to avoid putting up really dodgy XfDs that HW can pounce on, but I've said as much there, so I suppose he'll take that advice or leave it. Anyway, I'll bow out of the AN/I discussion and leave it to the admins to decide what to do. Best, 28bytes (talk) 06:27, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Best to you as well. I've been here 5+ years, I wonder if it's time for me to just burn out. I've seen a lot of good people go, and I feel like this is still my baby, but I am so tired of the daily crap. Jimbo has to be feeling the same.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 06:33, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism only account applies only to named accounts, not IP's. We can indefinitely block named accounts, but rarely an IP. Dreadstar 05:29, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, but if that's all they're here for, they should get more than a hand-wringing "oh, they don't have enough warnings yet". They're vandals just the same, they steal moments of my life and yours that we don't need to be cleaning up after them, yet we have to. They should feel that somehow, even just a day block. Otherwise it's just a waste of time to continually warn them.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 05:43, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
I agree; and it depends on the 'quality' of the vandalism, in severe cases a jump in warning level or even a block on no-warnings is warranted. Depends on the situation and the reviewing admin. Dreadstar 17:03, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Fringe theories

Kintetsubuffalo, that edit was written after reading many books on the subject. I can provide supporting quotations from the following texts, if you wish.

The following article is online, and contains all important points of the theory. Please note that is an extract from Monumenta Nipponica.

These are not fringe theories, but come from respected books by famous scholars. "Kami worship", jingi shinkō in Japanese, is the term used by scholars for pre-Meiji kami beliefs. Frank (Urashima Tarō) (talk) 06:47, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Your edit summary here explains that you are uncomfortable with an edit. May I suggest that you follow through with the impulse to pursue the underlying questions. This kind of "dispute" (for lack of a better word) is precisely the sort of thing which ensures the quality and clarity of our collaborative work. IMO, you can feel free to press Urashimataro vigorously.
IMO, the two opening sentences are roughly equivalent, but with nuanced differences.
After the arrival of Buddhism in Japan, Hachiman became a syncretistic deity, a harmonization of the native Shinto religion with Buddhism (shinbutsu shūgō)
After the arrival of Buddhism in Japan, Hachiman became a syncretistic deity, fusing elements of the native kami worship with Buddhism (shinbutsu shūgō).

In this diff comparison, it appears that your concern is limited to one sentence -- in fact, it seems that you find only four words problematic. WP:Burden offers policy-based support for further inquiry. In other words, IMO, it is reasonable and proper to insist respectfully that Urashimataro explain and defend the difference between the two sentences. An implicit aspect of that burden of persuasion is to demonstrate that the four words are not WP:Synthesis. This requires good judgement and fine parsing skills. Compare
IMO, even though there is disagreement about four words, I construe this as a context in which both Kintetsubuffalo and Urashimataro and I are all "on the same page". Do you take my point? --Tenmei (talk) 14:10, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you Tenmei. Being Shinto myself, I am uncomfortable with this seeming rewrite of Japanese culture as it has been understood for so long. I take umbrage at Urashimataro's claim that I know nothing of the subject, and so no, we're not on the same page after all.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:37, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Please consider the analysis and opinions I have posted here --Tenmei (talk) 17:47, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Girl Scout cookies in popular culture

Kentetsubuffalo, you voted to merge into Scouting in popular culture at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Girl Scout cookies in popular culture. If merge is the conclusion, I fully intend to do it. Could you please read thru the article and tell me which items listed are encyclopedic enough to keep? Article of the month – List of valkyrie names in Norse mythology

In Norse mythology, a valkyrie is one of a host of female figures who choose which warriors will win or die in battle. The valkyries bring their chosen who have died bravely in battle to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin, where the deceased warriors become einherjar. There, when the einherjar are not preparing for the events of Ragnarök, the valkyries bear them mead. Valkyries also appear as lovers of heroes and other mortals, where they are sometimes described as the daughters of royalty, sometimes accompanied by ravens, and sometimes connected to swans. About Yasuhito Endō nickname

Hi Kintetsubuffalo!
I notice you've reverted an edit I made, which is of course just fine. The original addition of "Mr Cool" as nickname was hereabouts. Is it common knowledge, but just waiting for a reliable reference? I've had a little look around and can't find anything that conclusively puts 「遠藤保仁」 together with 「ミスター.クール」.

How fascinating I am

Re , thanks, heh, it seems I think so too. But my user page now seems a little narcissistic to me. Not to mention that, with all the enemies I'm making with my AfD work, I should probably remove real-world identifying information. Maybe I'll just leave the two quotes at the top. They are basically about my take on Misplaced Pages: it really is a hierarchical top-down organization, not some anarchic Wild West -- but with not so much at the top, and with (mostly) rational discussion about what properly constitutes an order, sir. The history of Auftragstaktik suggests that excellence in strict hierarchies is possible. Alas, it also suggests that their weakness is in how they are so often shackled at the top to powers that can become arbitrary, self-deceptive and demagogic. Misplaced Pages looks like an almost-mathematical existence proof that such shackles aren't necessary. Occasionally I sit back and marvel: how cool is that? Other times, though, I want to check the proof again: maybe a crucial step is wrong? Yakushima (talk) 12:26, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Images

Hi, I tried to fix the fair use stuff for File:Chief Scout's Award (The Scout Association) (pre 2003).png on Scouts (The Scout Association). There is a similar need to do it for File:Chief Scout's Silver Award (The Scout Association).png on Cub Scouts (The Scout Association). The problem has been flagged on their talk pages. Could you please take a look. We need to to the merge pf the Progressive Award Scheme, but I am tied up. That will then need all these imgaes looking at again. Cheers, --Bduke (Discussion) 08:07, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Got it-the bot isn't recognizing that these names were corrected about a year ago. At some point we have to go through all Scout images and correct the names in the articles, but Ed and Jergen and I are fixing them as the bots catch them. This has been happening a lot the last month-it's a bot error.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 11:51, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
I think the problem is different. First, the talk pages say that there is no justification for fair use. For File:Chief Scout's Award (The Scout Association) (pre 2003).png, I added a section for Scouts (The Scout Association), but there is now some big red error stuff. Second, I noticed that the earlier justification says the image is used in the infobox, but it is not. I tried to alter it. I then stopped, but justification for File:Chief Scout's Silver Award (The Scout Association).png on Cub Scouts (The Scout Association) is still needed and the current justification says it is in the infobox of Cub Scouts (The Scout Association), which is not correct. I seem to forget more about images than I remember! --Bduke (Discussion) 21:21, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

WP:AOW

Hi, I'm a new member of WP:AOW. I've noticed that the stub templates have been proposed for rename ... no problem, but the stub categories have also been nominated for deletion. Interac (Japan)

I'm trying to improve this page. As it is, it's a mash of rumor, misinformation, and stuff from the General Union. I'm more than willing to get sources to improve the page quality so that it makes it into the Japan Project and the Education Project. I'd appreciate any helpKeroroGunso (talk) 01:02, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Regarding

I thought editors were permitted to remove blatant and obvious WP:SOAPBOXing from article talkpages... unless I am mistaken? Comments that are WP:FORUM material and are not contributing to the project are usually removed, if I recall. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 13:54, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

They are, if the edit in question is disruptive and trolling. HXL49, however, makes a point to troll, editorialize and POV back both in talkpages and with his summaries. Hence the revert-it wasn't an AGF removal, it was snarking for the point of snarking.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 13:59, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

WP Japan in the Signpost

"WikiProject Report" would like to focus on WikiProject Japan for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Other editors will also have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 04:07, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Rollback in a content dispute

Regarding your AN3 report please understand that using rollback for edits that are not vandalism (or one of the other allowed purposes) is not acceptable. I'm not going to take it away from you, because, honestly, you do a lot of good work with it, but another admin might choose to do so. If you would discuss the changes in question rather than to revert them using the vandalism revert tool and template the user with warnings, there is at least a chance that a mutually agreeable decision could be reached. If not, Misplaced Pages has plenty of dispute resolution processes available and it's not like Libya-related topics are wanting for editors right now. You could start a discussion on the template talk page about the appropriate topics for inclusion and post a neutral notification of it at Talk:Libya and probably get multiple eyeballs on it. But whatever you decide to do, revert warring using rollback isn't a very good option. --B (talk) 13:59, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Old West stubs

Hi - there seems to be a bit of confusion as to what I was actually proposing here - hopefully my latest comments have explained things a bit better - could you have a second look, please? Grutness...wha? 23:37, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

You should not force a move that has been rejected twice and does not follow the guidelines

Hi!

I think you should not force a move that has been rejected twice and does not follow the guidelines.

  • (Move log); 12:49 . . Kintetsubuffalo (talk | contribs | block) moved File:Troop beverly hills poster.jpg to File:Troop Beverly Hills.jpg (5. Correct obvious errors in file names (e.g. wrong proper nouns or false historical dates))

If you look at Misplaced Pages:File_mover#What_files_should_not_be_renamed? it clearly says that you should not make cosmetic changes. --MGA73 (talk) 20:02, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

WP:BOLD, but I get it. --Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:33, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
I've looked through your move log and see many other cases which are inappropriate. Please do not push the boundaries with this new tool. John Vandenberg 20:25, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

This video is quite a find! I didn't realize VoA had such interesting videos on their website, and free for us to use nonetheless! Do you need me to do anything to the file by the way? Regards, -- Orionisttalk 14:18, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Not the video, but the Libyan Scout emblem, if you can-the flag behind the leader is deeper green, can you give it an svg?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:48, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
I have so little free time these days, and most of it I'm far from my home computer (where my graphics software are, that's why I've done very few requests in the last couple of months.) I'm hoping I can get back to working on requests (and restart work on the emblems) in a week or two. Regards, -- Orionisttalk 13:21, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
No worries, take your time, take care, busy here in Japan too. Thank you!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 13:24, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Baseball

Given your name, should I assume that you're a follower of baseball in Japan? If so, do you know very much about the history of baseball there? What articles would you recommend I study? I'm asking all these questions because I'm trying to develop a list of professional teams' ballparks in Japan, and in order to do so, I need to understand the history better. And also to know if such an article already exists, so I won't be re-inventing the wheel. Thank you! ←Baseball Bugs carrots15:01, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing me to that article on Japanese baseball! It took me to Japanese Baseball League, which appears to have a complete rundown of the teams that were in that league during its existence from 1936 through 1949 (minus 1945). After that, the Central League and Pacific League replaced that single league. I had seen some of this info a day or two ago, and was having a bit of trouble getting my head around it. I started with List of baseball parks in Tokyo, but was not happy with the way that was going. I think what I really need to do (unless someone else has already done it) is to make a list of all the teams and their timelines (as shown in Japanese Baseball League) and sub-head each one with a list of their ballparks. Then I can combine the two to produce a list of ballparks and the teams that played under them. I would then rename List of baseball parks in Tokyo to List of baseball parks in Japan or something like that. Talking strictly professional so as not to get too broad a scope. I also like to include ballparks' locations, and I have no clue how street locations are specified in Japan, but that's not a show-stopper at this point. ←Baseball Bugs carrots15:40, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
I have completed a rough draft of the article I talked about, which is currently at User:Baseball Bugs/sandbachs. I wonder if you would mind looking it over and see if I made any mistakes or omissions. The style may not be to your liking, but it's my way of organizing the data. :) At the very least, some of this could be added to the team infoboxes, which are inconsistent. ←Baseball Bugs carrots18:14, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

OK

I went ahead and created the article List of baseball parks in Japan. When you get a chance, could you look through it and see if I made any gross mistakes? Thank you! ←Baseball Bugs carrots23:09, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
