Justice for Khojaly or shortly "JFK" (Template:Lang-az, Template:Lang-fr, Template:Lang-de, Template:Lang-tr, Template:Lang-ru, Template:Lang-it, Template:Lang-pt, Template:Lang-pl, Template:Lang-uk, Template:Lang-lt) is The International Awareness Campaign, initiated on 8 May 2008 by Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva, General Coordinator of Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation under the motto of “Justice for Khojaly, Freedom for Karabakh” The web-site of JFK campaign allows internet users to address petition to world leaders "to recognize Khojaly Massacre as a crime against humanity and to fight injustice in the world" which has already been signed more than 143 500 users online as of December 27, 2012.Campaign has more than 32 000 followers on Facebook page. Totally around 1 million people joined this campaign

Aims

The Campaign is aimed at raising international civil awareness through demonstration of creative photos and images of suffered people in the Karabakh conflict and Khojaly Massacre in particular and reaching out globally via Media, Internet and Live events. Photos demonstrating human opposition to genocides, massacres and cleansing based on all forms of racial, ethnic or religious discrimination, solidarity with the innocent victims and suffering children of the Khojaly Massacre; global call on removing the root cause of the conflict - ending the aggression by the Armenia in the Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

The Campaign is also aimed at raising awareness on grave situation of oppressed people (due to total ethnic cleansing only Armenians remain at these territories) under the military regime of occupation forces in Nagorno Karabakh and on necessity for promotion of liberation of this ancient cradle of civilization.

Civil society organizations, social entrepreneurs and human rights activists as well as all concerned individuals, can join and contribute to the campaign

About Khojaly Massacre

Khojaly is medium-size city in Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Republic where during few hours of night from 25 to 26 February 613 civilians were killed including 106 women and 85 small children under 8 years. 56 people were killed with outrageous brutality, 8 families were totally exterminated, 25 children lost both parents while 130 children lost at least one parent in a massacre which has become the most brutal punishment of civilians during the conflict’s military phase. They were either shot dead by Armenian soldiers or froze to death as they tried to flee Khojaly. More than 1000 people became disabled, 1275 people were taken as hostage, no information about more than 150 people since then.

"Justice For Khojaly" song

Hip hop-style song “Justice for Khojaly” has been produced in the framework of the “Justice for Khojaly” campaign. Performed by Ms. Toni Blackman, the first Hip Hop Cultural Envoy for the U.S. Department of State, and produced by Mr. Gordon Williams, multiple Grammy award winning producer and director took part in the event and shared with their thought on Khojaly Massacre and produced song. The song Justice for Khojaly calls on to pay tribute to the memory of the fallen innocent people and to prevent current and future generations from occurrence of such heinous crimes against humanity.

International coverage

The events demanding justice for Khojaly Genocide were organizing throughout the world until this campaign was launched in 2008, while the number of events increased rapidly since 2008. Since 2005 commemoration events were organized in Washington, New York, Tallinn, Warsaw, London, Beijing, Hague, Dubai, Kiev, Moscow, Berlin, Strasbourg, Brussels, Bucharest, Geneve, Ankara, Istambul, Prague, Paris, Rome, Tbilis, Saraevo and other cities.

The campaign has already covered more than 25 countries and 115 organizations. Members of Parliamentary Assembly of the Conseil of Europe signed a document for the 20th anniversary of Khojaly massacre.

Austria

  • Street action was organized in the central square of Vienna - Steffan by Azerbaijani Academic Union on February 26, 2010 in the support of "Justice for Khojaly" campaign. The rap manifest was screened in the monitors assembled in the centre and as well photos of Khojaly Massacre and Nagorno Karabakh conflict were demonstrated in photo exhibition. Local population participated in Petition action and signed the appeal to the world leader on calling decision-makers to recognize Khojaly Massacre as crime against humanity.

Azerbaijan

  • About 50 thousand people marched through the streets of Baku in February 26, 2012 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Genocide and mass killings during Nagorno-Karabakh War.

Czech Republic

Participants of the event put 613 candles on the ground writing the word "Chodžaly" ("Khojaly" in Czech language).
  • Azer-Czech Society organized the event "Light for Khojaly" devoted to the 15th anniversary of Tragedy. The event included discussions, exhibition, lecture, presentation of new web-site "Karabakh", documentary film about Genocide in Lidice Memorial (February 26, 2007);
  • One year later another event devoted to the 18th anniversary of genocide in Lidice. The film describing the tragedy was shown in Lidice Memorial. The exhibition describing the Khojaly Genocide was organized in the hall of memorial. Lidice and Khojaly became "brother cities" due to similar history with genocide. Also according to the Czech magazine Orer, the mayor of Lidice Veronika Kellerová confirmed in March 2012 that the town of Khojaly signed a cooperation treaty with the Lidice Memorial affiliated with the Czech Ministry of Culture.
  • The 19th and 20th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide were commemorated under slogan "Light for Khojaly - Justice for Khojaly". The tents were put in the Prague square in February 2012 and information about the event was given to the people interested about genocide. Participants of the event put 613 candles on the ground writing the word "Chodžaly" ("Khojaly" in Czech language).

Denmark

  • Seminar devoted to the 18th anniversary of the Khojaly Massacre was organized in Copenhagen University called "Justice For Khojaly". University students attended the seminar which was organized under the supervision of Denmark-Azerbaijan Friendship society and Union of Turkish societies in Denmark. Following the seminar the participants of the seminar made street actions called “Aid to Khojaly”.
  • Denmark Motherland Society also organized exhibition for remembrance of Khojaly Genocide victims.
  • A seminar entitled “Nagorno-Karabakh conflict” was held at the University of Southern Denmark on 24 February 2011. The purpose of the seminar was to inform participants from Denmark and other countries about the background of the conflict, reasons it happened and its influence to the people living on that region. The seminar proceeded with active discussion of parties and the exhibition of “Justice for Khojaly” campaign.

Estonia

  • Eurovision-2001 song contest Estonian winner Tanel Padar supports JFK campaign.
  • The event for commemoration of victims of Khojaly Genocide was held in Tallin in February, 2012. Member of European Parliament Indrek Tarand, member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Andres Herkel, Archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Estonia Andres Põder, officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, representative of NGOs working with human rights participated in this event. All the participants condemned the committed genocide and mentioned the justice for Khojaly has to be established based on international law. The film «Justice call» was shown and exhibition was held during this event as well.
  • Estonian “Tallinna TV” and “TVN” showed films about Azerbaijan and Khojaly Genocide in February 25–26, 2012.

France

  • The Franco-Azeri Youth Association (AFAJ) organized a commemoration event in February 25, 2011 for the 19th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy at Place du Chatelet in Paris within the framework of the international campaign. The street rally was carried out with the participation of Azerbaijani students studying in France and members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Paris. The action lasted more than three hours ended by a rally of the demonstrators in front of the embassy of Armenia in France, under the protest slogans “Justice for Khojaly” and “Freedom for Karabakh”.
  • During the same days, the exhibition of paintings “Khojaly by children” was presented in Paris. Booklets about the genocide and books about history of Karabakh were distributed to the participants.
  • The concert to the memory of the victims of this tragedy was organized at l’Eglise de la Madeleine in February 26, 2012.

Hungary

  • Hungarian Parliament discussed mass killings by Armenians against Azerbaijanis which condemned Khojaly Genocide and Nagorno-Karabakh War.

Indonesia

  • An event in Global Education Center called Kharisma Bangsa (Jakarta, Indonesia) within the framework of the Justice for Khojaly campaign. A movie "Khojaly Massacre" was demonstrated as well as photo gallery exhibition were introduced to the guests. Number of political figures, academicians and Media representatives took part in the event. Information about Khojaly Massacre was circulated in number of newspapers in many languages.

Lithuania

  • Lithuanian war journalist produced film based on his memories about Khojaly Genocide.
  • Member of Lithuanian Parliament Milk Adomėnas, Democratic Politics Institute organized an event to remember Khojaly Genocide in February 2012. Professors from Vilnius University and the European Humanities University delivered speech about this genocide and the campaign "Justice for Khojaly" in Lithuania. Two documentary films were also shown during the event.
  • Press-conference under slogan "Khojaly tragedy in town - still not recognized crime against humanity" was held in February 24, 2012
  • Lithuanian, Azerbaijani, turkish and some foreign students studying in Lithuania organized rally in Kaunas, in the second biggest city of the country to remember the 20th anniversary of the tragedy with slogans "Justice for Khojaly", "Stop Armenian Occupation", "I would like to go home - to Karabakh. They marched along the Laisves Avenue where 613 pictures with the names, birth dates of genocide victims.
  • 21 members of Lithuanian Parliament appealed to the European Parliament. They mentioned that Lithuanian nation understands Azerbaijani people's pain due to the fact that the perpetrators of this tragedy are still not punished. Besides demanding justice for this genocide, the MPs expressed condolences to the relatives of those killed and the victims and the whole Azerbaijani people.

Mexico

  • Mexico recognized Khojaly events as genocide.
  • National Autonomous University of Mexico held a conference devoted to the 19th anniversary of the massacre in Khojali. The professor of Montana University (USA), international reapperteur, author of Azerbaijan dairy and Chechnya Dairy Thomas Goltz made a speech in fron of Uniersity students on Khojaly Massacre. New Justice for Khojaly website in Spanish has been presented (www.justiciapajodyali.org, justiceforkhojaly.mx) to Mexican audince where all information was dissemnitaed in local language.

The Netherlands

  • Dutch Parliament has received an appeal about the 20th commemoration of the Khojaly Massacree within "Justice for Khojaly" campaign.

Pakistan

  • Pakistan recognized Khojaly events as genocide.

Russia

  • Moscow has presented a film marking the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide, killing of hundreds of Azebaijani civilians by the Armenian military in 1992. The documentary “Endless Corridor” was filmed by the Union of European Cinematographers within the framework of the project “Peaceful Caucasus”. The film was based on diaries of Lithuanian military reporter Ričardas Lapaitis who was in Baku in late February 1992 and witnessed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict].
  • Seminar "Legal aspects of Khojaly events in 1992" was held in Moscow in February, 2012 with participation of scientists, lawyers, political activists, journalists, diplomats, and etc. The documentary movie "Khojaly. Tragedy of one city" was shown during the seminar.

Sweden

  • Victims of Khojaly Genocide have been included into The Swedish virtual archieve project - "The Polinational War Memorial" as a result of work held by the international campaign JFK. The archive (http://war-memorial.net/Victims-of-the-Khojali-Massacre-1.224) contains a link to the website of the campaign (www.justiceforkhojaly.org) and contains the list of civilians killed during the genocide. It is presented as one of the most terrible mass atrocities committed in the 20th century. The virtual archive with photo illustrations also places a list of victims who died during wars, genocidal acts after the second world war.

Turkey

  • The largest campaign within "JFK" framework was the demonstration with slogan "We are all from Khojaly" (Template:Lang-az, Template:Lang-tr) which started in front of Galatasaray Liseum and lasted several hours in Taksim Square (Istanbul, Turkey) with around 200 000 participants for the 20th anniversary remembrance of the Khojaly Massacre victims, dozens of youth and students organizations, public unions, Turkish organizations and movements functioning in Turkey support the action. Number of participants expected to be tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis along with Turks, while more than 200 000 people joined to this rally with different ethnic background. Some sources claim that number of participants were even higher - around 300 000 and even 350 000. Resolution of rally was read during the protest which urges organizers of Khojaly Massacre to be punished based international law İstanbul police dispatched heavy security to the French Cultural Center on İstiklal Avenue, where demonstrators were marching, fearing possible attacks on the building.
  • Parelelly during the same days, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Youth Forum has opened an exhibition of photos and paintings in Istanbul within the framework of an international campaign titled Justice for Khojaly. The exhibition takes place at the Taksim Metro Station Exhibition Hall.
  • To commemorate Khojaly's 20th anniversary people gathered in the capital Ankara as well.

UAE

  • The head of the Scientific Council of Dubai Mohammed Ahmed Al-Gurashi noted the need for bringing to the world the truth about the Khojaly and the active participation of scientists in this matter.

Ukraine

  • Exhibition of painter Rasim Seydimov - "Requiem for Khojaly" in the Foundation of Arts (Feb 24, 2011 - March 2, 2011). Krulikovsky Yuri, Director of the Foundation for the Arts expressed the following: "The exhibition is heavy, even scary ... But no matter how hard it is these paintings are are necessary ... For the current generation ... and for the future .... to ensure this will never happen again, and nowhere ... Fact Khojaly - unique in its nature ... No politics, no ethnic problems can not and should not lead to such a horrible fact". The same exhibition was held in Donetsk, Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkiv.;
  • On the 18th of February, 2012, in Odessa in the frame of JFK campaign there was organized commemoration of Khojaly Massacre with the participation of many local citizens of Odessa and members of Azerbaijani Diaspora.
  • Congress of Azerbaijanis in Ukraine organized hold meeting in Nikolaev, Ukraine.
  • On the joint initiative of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum, Ukrainian Azerbaijani Youth Union and All-Ukraine Youth Assembly February 2012 was declared the “Month of Khojaly” in Ukraine. Several youth organizations of Ukraine joined this initiative
  • The Union of Azerbaijani Youth in Ukraine organized commemoration ceremony for the 20th anniversary of Genocide in Kharkiv in February, 2012. Kharkiv Regional Administration, the Azerbaijani diaspora activists, representatives of local television and media participated in this event. They started ceremony putting flowers to the memorial of the National Hero of Azerbaijan Victor Seryogin in Kharkiv. After ceremony the film "Khojaly genocide" was shown to attendees which describes how genocide was done by Armenians against children, women, elderly and civilians of Khojaly. Member of Parliament from Kharkiv Alla Bobeyko, the head of the Society of Georgians in Ukraine Zurab Kiri and leaders of diasporas several nations spoke after watching the movie with the motto "Bloody tragedy in Khojaly - a crime against humanity" and expressed their concern about "historical injustice - despite the fact that 20 years passed, no justice was established for Khojaly". The speakers expressed confidence that the international community and international organizations sooner or later will give legal assessment of the political policy of genocide, carried out by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in Khojaly.
  • The young people from a number of Ukrainian cities organized car-rally to Kiev on February 26 with the slogan “Justice for Khojaly”.
  • The event for commemoration of genocide victims was organized inDonetsk in February, 2012. Officials of Donetsk Oblast, diaspora activists, youth of Ukraine and Azerbaijan as well as foreign students came together, discussed the reasons and consequences of Nagorno-Karabakh War and Khojaly Genocide. They also watched documentary film about this genocide.
  • Youth living and studying in Ukraine organized protest in front of representative offices of United Nations and Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe demanding justice for Khojaly Genocide (February, 2012).
