Emmelie Charlotte-Victoria de Forest (born 28 February 1993; née Emmelie Engström), better known as "Emmelie de Forest", is a Danish singer. She will represent Denmark with the song "Only Teardrops" in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden.
She signed to the label Universal Music on 25 March 2013 and her first album Only Teardrops is set to be released in May 2013.
Early life
Emmelie de Forest was born to a Danish mother and Swedish father and started singing at age 9. At age 14, she collaborated with Scottish musician Fraser Neill, including appearances at many festivals and cultural centres. In 2011, she moved from Mariager, Northern Jutland to Copenhagen and registered at Katrine Sadolins "Complete Vocal Institute" for singing students.
Music career
2013–present: Eurovision Song Contest and Only Teardrops
Emmelie de Forest was one of ten acts bidding to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden with her entry "Only Teardrops". On 26 January 2013, she won the national selection.
On 14 April, Emmelie de Forest announced that her debut album, Only Teardrops, will be released on 6 May, a week before her performance in the Eurovision. The album will have twelve songs, including the original and symphonic versions "Only Teardrops".
On 14 May, Emmelie de Forest's song "Only Teardrops" made it to the final of the Eurovision on 18 May, being one of the ten finalists.
Emmelie de Forest is a strong bookmakers favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2013.
