- Elonka Dunin, elonka@aol.com, AIM: elonka
Hello! Among other things, I am a writer, game developer, cryptologist, webmistress, world-traveller, and appreciator of all kinds of different subcultures. :)
I've had a Misplaced Pages account since September 16, 2005, and made my 1000th edit on January 19, 2006.
I am also considered "Notable", and have an official page at: Elonka Dunin (thanks to Zippy for helping with that).

Stuff which could potentially be added to the official page at some point
This section is for anyone who's looking to expand the official Elonka Dunin page. You can pick and choose whatever you think is appropriate. Some of the sources/references will be obvious, but if you would like any advice on where to find references, just ask. Or, check my Elonka-in-the-news page at my personal site.
Public speaking
Given talks on Steganography, Kryptos, the PhreakNIC v3.0 Code, Famous Unsolved Codes and other cryptographic subjects at venues such as DragonCon, Def Con, PhreakNIC, ShmooCon, Archon (convention), UMR-Rolla, Washington University, the St. Louis FBI Computer Crimes task force, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the NSA's Cryptologic History Symposium.
Famous Relatives
(unreferenced context) My father, Stanley Dunin, was a war orphan. Both of his parents were killed in Poland in September 1939 during the German blitzkrieg. Other family was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. My father and his sisters (all under the age of 6) were able to survive only through the frantic assistance of friends and relatives throughout Europe and North America. The children finally made their way to the United States with the assistance of Senator Homer Ferguson of Michigan, and grew up to have families of their own. But because of the chaos of the war, much of our family history was lost. One of my projects has been to try and piece together the bits and pieces of my family genealogy and heritage. Misplaced Pages has been a good source for this, as I have been learning about some of my more famous relatives, especially from the Polish szlachta (noble/gentility) classes. This section provides links to those relatives who are notable enough to have their own articles.
- Great-great-grandniece (via my paternal grandmother's paternal grandmother) of Saint Raphael Kalinowski
- Great-granddaughter of Edward Werner, Polish Vice-Finance Minister
- Great-great-grandniece (via my paternal grandmother's maternal grandfather) of the famous German botanist Eduard Strasburger
- First Cousin (by marriage) once-removed of Pulitzer-prize-winner Jared Diamond.
- Edmund Taczanowski - Great-great-grandmother's brother-in-law. My great-great-grandmother: Maria-Antonina Baranowska. Her sister: Aniela Baranowska. Her husband: Edmund. I'm actually related to him by blood, as well, as he's the grandson of my great-great-great grandfather Maksymilian Taczanowksi, which makes him the first cousin of my great-grandmother Lucia Taczanowska Dunin, or you could say he's my first cousin thrice removed, take your pick. ;)
- Agnieszka Lipska Baranowska - Great-great-great grandmother, famous Polish playwright from the Poznan area
- Austro-Hungarian Ambassador to the United States, Baron Ladislaus Hengelmuller
- Count Alfred Niezychowski, great-uncle. Author of The Cruise of the Kronprinz Wilhelm, 1928, as "Alfred Von Niezychowski". Published by Doubleday & Company.
- Antoni Dunin - My grandfather, who was awarded the prestigious Virtuti Militari award (a Polish version of the Medal of Honor)
- First Cousin of Peter Zika, accomplished Botanist
- Rodryg Dunin - My great-grandfather. He had the title of "Hrabia" (Count), and was listed as a "Notable Pole" in the Polski Słownik Biograficzny (Polish Biographical Dictionary).
- Jan Czarnowski - Papal chamberlain to Pope Pius XII, and leader of the Polish Order of the Knights of the Maltese Cross. Also Polish szlachta, and owner of the Rossocha estate near Warsaw.
- Adam Tarnowski - Polish diplomat member of the Polish Government in Exile
- Maksymilian Taczanowski - Great-great-great-grandfather
- Henryk Leon Strasburger - Polish politican in Danzig (Gdansk), and member of the Polish government in exile
- Elsie Ivancich Dunin - UCLA Professor, world expert on various types of folk dances, especially Croatian, cultural ethnographer, and author of several books
- Pazmaneum - This is a school in Vienna that was founded by one of my great-great-great grandfathers, (first name unknown) Pazman. I've been told that there are many references to the Pazman name in Hungary, but since I don't speak Hungarian, I haven't been able to trace this very far.
