(edit conflict) Hi! There are three references in this article, but not one of them mentions this person. This is a brief biographic listing for a nineteenth-century soldier, this is a link to a book by Rita Steblin on a commercial online bookseller site, and this links to a page on Die Müllerin von Burgos by von Suppé, not on IMSLP as claimed, but on The Classical Composers Database. Not one of the four is (as far as I can see) a reliable source by our standards. I strongly suggest that from now on you create pages in draft space only; that means that if you want to start a page on, say, Josef Giannatassio Del Rio, you do not start it at Josef Giannatassio Del Rio but at Draft:Josef Giannatassio Del Rio. Then, once you believe it is adequately sourced, you can submit it for review. It might make sense to translate only pages that are themselves adequately referenced in the original language. Justlettersandnumbers, not marked as a ref, but in external links, is this (zeno), - you click on Biographie and have the bio in table form, you click on Libretto and can read the complete book of Schubert's opera. - What do you miss? Hi, Gerda! Why is either of those a reliable source for the content of the article? The catalogue of the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek is a list of book titles with bibliographic information; zeno.org is apparently the website of a company called Contumax GmbH, apparently a small publishing house in Berlin. Practical wish: when Kutsch/Riemens is cited please take the time to find the page in the newest edition. Usually google should be enough: search for "Lastname, Firstname Kutsch". The go to some article which has the full citation, such as Ruthilde Boesch, copy and adjust page number (twice) and name. then use liberally as INLINE citation by name, - that's what your (insert word) want, repeating: INLINE. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:41, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi there, I am sorry you feel this way. To be honest, I don't like sending those articles to nirvana or whatever you want to call it, because there may be merit in them. However, I can only go by the guidelines and not by "perceived" notability. I DO believe there can be a bias in Misplaced Pages. There is a very good essay on systemic bias which I recommend reading. As a result, we see articles for some TV singing contest runner-ups easily pass notability and verifiability because there usually is quite a media buzz around them. When I click "reviewed" I know full well that there probably is a 75% chance no one will remember this individual in 2-3 years' time and there won't be much left other than a couple of mediocre songs what won't get played again and this article. At the same time, there are MANY individuals that are worthy an article, but there is just not much to go by in terms of readily available sources. Hence a systemic bias. For example, I watched an architecture documentary a while back and heard of Gerhard Weber. He did not have an English Misplaced Pages article, so I thought I'd use the German one as starting point. I knew the sources in the German article are insufficient to pass notability "over here". I spread the search over 2 days to find reliable sources to show "significant coverage" as GNG requires. Only then did I start writing the article in my sandbox and only once I added all refs I moved to article space. This is a process that always worked well for me, maybe it works for you too. Jake, I don't know why we get confusing messages about notability and lack of references. When an opera singer created a role in an important opera she or he is notable. Period. 99% probability that there's also a reference in the Kutsch/Riemens bible of singers. For the German Misplaced Pages, that's enough. - In this case on page 1623, not hard to find (Google helps, + they go by alphabet, just try page numbers in the url). So please add

" While even this is dubious (depends on which role they created), the article on Herman Gallos doesn't list any roles he created... It isn't up to new page patrollers to check whether the article creator has forgotten to list the most notable facts about the subject. Fram (talk) 06:52, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

"Clicking on "What links here?" should not be too difficult for a reviewer to check context. So when I today moved Botho von Hülsen, Christian Elsner, Bohumil Herlischka, Elisabeth Lindermeier, Kurt Honolka and Wolfgang Martin Schede to draft space, I did so without sending you a notice each time. Justlettersandnumbers, if I could do better, I would. I have my fun creating pages on Misplaced Pages where I consider myself a volonteer and not an employee. I don't doubt one second your good faith, you do what you think is appropriate to the situation. Just when I painstackingly try to enrich the project, some people choose to impowerish it. Once the articles are in the Draftpage container I leave them where they are for there's no possibility I could make them better than they were the first time. The only outcome I see of these moves is to contend myself with stubs. My salvation doesn't depend on my participation to Misplaced Pages. Yours, LouisAlain (talk) 07:34, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
Justlettersandnumbers, I don't have much time for this, so just one example: many articles have a link to Kurt Honolka, and I strongly believe that an article on him - even if not perfect English and undersourced - serves our readers better than a red link with a fat red notice "was deleted" and a small green hint "is in draft space". He had a decent ill link, Kurt Honolka, but that is gone, and now readers don't even have access to the German, nor know that he IS notable in another language. Also, there seems to be no bot to disconnect in the other languages, so "English" is still shown, but with the above red/green unhelpful information. I'd love to see you change to one of two options: 1) just tag for whatever is missing in an article for a clearly notable subject with interlanguage link connection, or 2) if sending to draft, restore the ill-links. LouisAlain, you say if I could do better, I would but User:Voceditenore explained to you a very simple, easy way to "do better" that you are perfectly capable of doing, and that is to keep these translations in draft space, or in your sandbox until they are properly referenced. Gerda will help you with that, so would Voceditenore if you would follow her advice. WP is not a place to "have fun" while ignoring the policies and guidelines that protect the encyclopedia. I don't think it is fair of us to keep challenging the New Page Patrol people, they are of course also volunteers and are following their guidelines that are there for good reasons. These machine translated articles that Louis produces in vast quantities in extreme haste contain some terrible mistakes, I haven't been drawing attention to them all as Gerda and Voceditenore thought I was being mean, but for instance the article Karl-Heinz Thiemann said he " took over the lodge in Das Rheingold" until I corrected it and Heinz Kruse contained the statement that " he dedicated himself to roles like...the box in Das Rheingold". Kruse and Thiemann played the roles of LOGE which if you just run it through a translation machine will translate "Loge" as "the lodge" or "the box", and then it gets posted on here like that and we say a singer played a box or took over a lodge in Das Rhinegold. I really think this is unacceptable and the only explanation I can fathom is that Louis does not read these translations through before posting them. I have checked hundreds of these articles for such errors but there are thousands of them and I don't have the time to go through them all and I wonder how many atrocious mistakes like that are now on WP for years or maybe forever. If Louis would only take everyone's advice, slow down and really learn to collaborate with us, his contributions would be very valuable but I don't feel it is acceptable for him to continue to ignore WP policies and guidelines on the basis that he is here to have fun, he isn't an employee and can't do any better.Smeat75 (talk) 11:33, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
Smeat75, you've convinced me. I understand I'm not up to the En. Misplaced Pages expectations. For some reason unknown to me, Voceditenor has decided to no longer exchange with me. Probably another case of lost in translation. From now on I won't go any further than stubs like Leopold Ludwig unless you tell me this is also forbiden. When I ramble through this version of Wiki, I cannot but feel disturbed by the horrors I come through but apparently I am the single one entitled to the red carpet treatment for whatever article I now create. I do my best but why should I try to do even better when whatever the case, my translations go direct to the waste container?

LouisAlain, I removed that tag from Diener, but tell me, why don't you use the one good ref, Kutsch/Riemens, instead of several not-so-good ones. I didn't say obstinacy, and wouldn't. - I have a script which tells me when a cited biography is not called. When you have a bio from Neue Deutsche Biographie, as for Ludwig, you call it by {{sfn|authorname|year}}. If you have an opera singer, such as Diener, you ask Google for "Diener, Melanie Kutsch" (note last name first, because that's how the book has it), and you will likely find something giving you the page number. Then ... - see somewhere above. If you have no good ref you put the whole thing in a sandbox, User:LouisAlain/sandbox, which I can watch. The convenience of that approach is that I can influence when to move to article space, while today, I had to nominate Geszty, ready or not, last chance for a DYK which she really deserves. Or if you want to create pages in mainspace, just add the references first. Once you've done that, you'll be able to see at once (a) whether the topic is in fact notable by our standards and (b) what information the sources actually provide. If the result of that is either (a) "no" or (b) "not much", you'll know not to waste your time and other people's by persisting with that topic. There is, by the way, nothing but your own obstinacy to prevent you from editing in draft space; my guess is that it's precisely because of that obstinacy that VdT withdrew her rather valuable support from your projects. As regards Voceditenor, little did I know this user was a she. Now that she's left me Ich fühle mich wie Der letzte Mann.

While I was blocked for one week last February, I took the opportunity to translate The Childhood of a Leader which was reviewed with a question relative to the notability of this work (not one iota modified in the page; again I question the seriousness of these reviews). Err... Had I let this translation in the Draft warehouse nobody would have noticed it. Now, see the history of this article and how enriched it has been by another (unregistered) user.

But you've convinced me, the more I create articles the heavier the load on other users and the more criticism I get. And also I participate to Misplaced Pages for the fun of it (read a violon d'Ingres ) and not to raise the level of knowledge of humankind. I consider it a past-time and not a chore. Now, it has become too complicated for my paltry mental abilities. God bless you if it is your motivation. So from now on I'll create only basic stubs and focus on menial tasks. Melanie Diener, Kurt Honolka, Sylvia Geszty, Trois Chansons (Ravel): great to have these articles, at various stages of development! I restrict myself to one article per day, so the time for Diener and Honolka will come, and for both I can choose, one to be expanded, the other to be freed from draft prison (where nobdy who could help will see it, sadly). Do me a favour: don't leave me alone, and keep creating. Perhaps for a while just restricted to people from Kutsch/Riemens, - there must be 16.000+ left without article. Another solid source is the Vienna State Opera's diligent archive, - not in her article yet. I wonder who the Paul Clemenceau is mentioned in the 3 Chansons, and no article even in French. Take a few wildflowers as thanks for a few articles you created, and please go look on my talk for the line: "go on with life, have a laugh, don't get too upset over this". LouisAlain, clearly this was a mistaken nomination for deletion – the initial version of the page already contained credible claims of significance. Nevertheless, although you have been repeatedly asked not to create mainspace articles without citations, you again did so here. Why will you not pay attention to what other editors have told you – have they not yet said it clearly enough, or often enough? Or do you actually want someone to take this to ANI and seek a topic-ban of some sort? Anyway, I'll ask you again: if you are not prepared to provide citations that enable readers and other editors to verify the content of pages you create, you should create them in draft space.
It occurs to me that you may not know how to add a citation. Here is one way: this is the (simple) code you need to add to cite the Großes Sängerlexikon:

Let me also offer an apology for my perhaps hasty application of a CSD tag to this article (and the other mentioned below). It seems it did not warrant it, and the only reason I placed it was because it seemed so patently obvious to me (which is already unfair) that the subject, as laid out, wasn't going to cut it as an article. That doesn't mean I was correct in doing so, only that I thought I was doing the correct thing, and I am learning myself here. Théâtre de la Michodière

You have done a fabulous job translating the French site into English.

There is one problem.

You have mostly translated "Direction", when referring to the person running the theatre, as "Directed by" (sometimes you have left it as "Direction")

You have also, correctly, used "directed by" to translate "mise en scène".

"Direction", in the first instance, should definitely be something else, but I am not sure what. "Owner Manager" is the obvious solution but it sounds very clunky. Also, at present, it is not true, as the theatre is currently owned by vente-privee.com but managed by Caillat and Hillel.

Also: another thought. Would it be useful to add the English language title to plays that have been adapted into French, the Ray Cooney plays for example?

Hi. I moved Joachim Draheim to Draft:Joachim Draheim. The only reference you give is a webshop, which gives no infomation about the author, only listing some books he worked on. The article is translated from German, but the only source used there is an expired webdomain, which gives the impression that you haven't actually checked the claims made in the article. The external links are discogs (with one entry), and the DNB, which gives at least the most basic information. You have been asked multiple times to either take more care with the sourcing of your articles (certainly WP:BLPs), or to create them first in draftspace. Fram (talk) 08:50, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Were you so impatient to learn more about this Polish soprano? Also I hesitate to translate articles fear of them being deleted because there was a copyvio of a German (or Polish in this case) original piece. What's the use of the <no wiki>in use</nowiki> <no wiki>under construction</nowiki> templates anyway when perfection and excellency are expected with every new article? LouisAlain, the answer to all questions is not 42, but 1: there has to be more than zero INLINE CITATIONS in a BLP (biography of living persons). Simple and stupid. Reviewers don't have to read, nor understand context, - they only have to look: inline citation yes or no, and no kills it. Tricky case, this one, with the diacritics, because it's not so easy to find things related to her. But I will, promised. If you want to know how to create in draftspace, you do the same as when you want to learn anything on Misplaced Pages, you 1) Google it - you'd have quickly got the answer or 2) got to the search box and then type in WP: or WIkipedia: and then the word you're interested in learning more about - so WP:Drafts. You may well think they are good enough for publication but when you have been told hundreds of times that they are not, you need to listen. You can create in draftspace then submit via WP:AFC, and it would take you seconds longer and there would be no complaints about this. Will you do this for all future submissions? "Redlinks" don't make a topic inherently notable. It's an indication to possibly consider an article - should this then meet notability criteria. As far as I can see, those links were created in connection with the new article and they are because Kramer wrote about the subject. This does not necessarily make an article notable. Authority control is really just a tool to help "connect the dots" between library entries - which is common for authors of published works. I can see how Schiller is different. If apparently she has created works that are considered "standard reference work" in the field of study, that passes PROF. I did not see similar statements for Kramer. Being an author whose work is used as citation in articles of notable topics does not make that author notable as well. Every university professor writes things that get cited. That's essentially part of the "job" and not inherently notable. PROF states this clearly. I agree with Gerda's sentiment about the need for an article on a musicologist who is widely cited on her specialist subject. I'm aware of WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, but e.g. many journalists have articles, and I think deservedly, and their only claim to fame is that they write for highly respected newspapers and would technically fail Misplaced Pages's notability requirements. An encyclopedia ought to offer its readers easy access to their articles where they can get their biographical details (place & date of birth, death) and a description of their work and career. I think the WP:PROD at Kramer's article should be removed and it be left to others to take it to WP:AFD. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 02:23, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

The problem there, Michael Bednarek, is that she isn't widely cited: I had to go to page 18 of this search to find an article by her (unless of course she writes on the effects of air pollution on children in her spare time?); that Archiv fur Musikwissenschaft article has been cited 6 times. The other Ursula Kramer really is widely cited on her specialist subject, and easily meets that criterion of WP:NPROF. Anyway, anyone can de-prod the article at any time; the page might survive an AfD on the basis that her Theater mit Musik is held in 151 libraries – except that she didn't write that book, merely edited it. @Gerda Arendt: The way I look at it, we should hold ourselves to higher standards when it comes to articles about people, companies, products, etc. There is no harm done per se, but many people (and search engines) regard a Misplaced Pages article as a kind of "award" in itself. Notability and verifiability rules are there to provide a level playing field. Granted, there may be outliers, but we try our best... I am strongly opposed to keeping any article for sake of "convenience" if it clearly does not meet relevant guidelines - especially when it's about living people, companies, etc. Academia can be extremely competitive and of course there's the constant need to obtain research grants, etc. In an imperfect world, having a Misplaced Pages article may unduly influence decision makers elsewhere for said reasons. Just to avoid doubt, I do not think you are involved in COI editing. Absolutely not!! But there's the bigger picture to consider. I think this woman (of whom I admittedly have never heard before she was mentioned here) is high standard. I never mentioned convenience, but believe we should inform readers about who writes sources, if we know. I know nothing about academic competion and thinking a wikipedia article is an award. Gerda Arendt, we have set our own standard for academics, and this one doesn't seem to meet it. The harm in ignoring our own guidelines is that for every minor academic there are ten thousand non-notable rappers, youtubers, "motivational" speakers, company executives, bit-part actors and fringe medicine practitioners who would just love to be able to use Misplaced Pages to promote themselves with some "free unlimited information". I don't like to be told what to do ;) - I will expand and source. Erik Werba was the perfect size to make a start. Five-times expansion just brought him to the minimum length for a DYK. Will still expand, but it's comfortable to be safe. - MrClog, I precisely shortened the German version for this lack of references. Other than that there are 7 entries in the Authority control (which I suppose are reliable sources) and some links to articles on this Misplaced Pages (notably the Handel Music Prize). - Boleyn, I now firmly believe you have a crush on me. You lead me again to repeat: I-do-not-know-how-to-create-a-drafspace and even if I knew, I fail to see how my level of English would improve and how I would find references that I didn't find in the first place. Moreover, why do you expect excellency at the first shot whereas an overwhelming majority of articles are built over several days or weeks? Notwithstanding the later additions years later?

- Not two days ago I asked Fram to delete an article I foolishly created 6 months ago (last paragraph of his TP). We all know Fram means business when it comes to references and yet, not only didn't he delete said page but added a reference when I added another one. Did you not see my explanation of how to create drafts at User talk:LouisAlain#Elżbieta Szmytka moved to draftspace? If you do that, then Gerda or a member of the AFC team could help you. No one is looking for excellency, just competency - and you have been told, over 100 times by different editors, that you are creating masses of articles that do not meet the threshold. Communication is expected on Misplaced Pages. If you dislike people questioning your creations, you need to use WP:AFC or work on a different area of Misplaced Pages apart from article creation, where you have been told - literally hundreds of times - that there are issues with your creations and they are causing issues for other editors. I'll ask you once again to stop creating articles unless it is through draftspace/AFC. I don't dislike people questioning my creations in the first place. Communication is expected on Misplaced Pages (Boleyn). And it is this same Boleyn who discreetly intervened so that I lost my patrolright without me being informed! Hundreds of translations have passed the test whith most of them not being corrected one iota. This autopatrol right were granted without me knowing what it meant so I suppose the sysop who made the move in the first place had nothing to object to my 50 first creations which already raised questions (I assume good faith from h/h part). See Mary Marquet which was my third article. And yet I was a complete beginner on en:Wiki.
Boleyn is teaching me lessons in communication whereas she never takes into account my answers like this one for example:
I fail to see how my level of English would improve and how I would find references that I didn't find in the first place (with some magic involved perhaps?). Now, what's wrong with Eckehard Mayer which was published without your authorisation? Following your guideline would lead to articles published as a block with nothing to add or substract. LouisAlain, you shouldn't copy information onto Misplaced Pages if you don't know its source - it's as simple as that. I am also not involved in WP:AFC, so using it would not be trying to gain my permission for an article, but would mean serious issues were picked up easily, quickly and there would be help available . Some of your creations are OK, but as you are aware from the many, many messages, there are lots of issues with them, namely that you have created many without references, or not knowing where the information actually came from. I don't see a serious issue with your level of English, which I would say is excellent usually. I am sorry that I did not inform you of a discussion I started elsewhere on autopatrol rights which did mention you. I was asking for someone else to look it over, as you clearly weren't going to listen to me and were just sure you were right, despite hundreds of messages of concern from different editors, all of which you responded to defensively without showing signs that you were listening and working with others on the serious concerns raised. I ddi not expect your autopatrol right to be taken after that discussion, although I agree with the admin who did so.   • Let's forget Greta Garbo for a while Boleyn. I perfectly understand the need for as many inline references as possible. Just there are sometimes no references available or I simply can't find them, I'm bad at these researches, it's a fact. Misplaced Pages pretending to be a collective encyclopedia, I expect some other Wikipedians to be able to fill in the void I leave behind. One week ago I created a page through my TP to follow your advice (I've already forgotten which it was) only to replicate it without a single change on the main space. It's not that I wasted my times since I always try my best when I start a translation. And even if it takes two or three times to "complete" an article, why bother?
  • Today I translated Étienne Perruchon after a commission from Gerda Arendt. There were already 4 references on the fr. Wiki (2 of them were dead links) but I could find two others. I omitted a large part of his list of creations, I didn't feel like searching for hours references for each of them which anyway I probably wouldn't have been able to find.
  • Today I also translated Heinz Röttger, leaving most of the main body of text untranslated for lack of references. Maybe was it also a copyvio case. The same goes with the list of his works. Did he really wrote a piano concerto in 1951? Or an opera after The Marriage Proposal by Chekhov?
  • 10 days ago I translated Silke Leopold which apparently didn't go through the review process. I have no certitude at all that all information about her is true and verifiable. Did she attend such and such school as a child and anyway, who cares?
  • Three years ago, I was told that every statement on Wiki should be bolstered with an inline references. I do not object and understand that but it is practically impossible and it leads to the cartesian doubt (I'm French as you know). What can I be sure of?

These articles (a minority of a great number) are no creation, but translation, - when you translate something which comes without inline citation, you write something without inline citation. Fanny Altenburger

You have created an article today, Fanny Altenburger, parts of which are not likely to convey useful information to an English reader. Since 2011 Altenburger has regularly participated in the Festspiele Reichenau and stood there in 2011 as Mohr in the Rosenkavalier after Hugo von Hofmannsthal. She "stood there?" What? Do you mean she played a part? There is no role, "Mohr" in the opera Der Rosenkavalier, if that is what you are talking about, hard to know as it is stated to be "after" Hugo von Hofmannsthal, no it isn't "after" him, he wrote the libretto. In English if you say a work is "after" something it means it is adapted from it. How could this actress play a part in an opera anyway if she isn't a singer. Was it one of the silent roles? Who knows? Then it says she appeared in a play called " Die Stützen der Gesellschaft" by Ibsen but he never wrote any play called that. Then we have a sentence part in German, part English 2016 stand sie für die Dreharbeiten zu dem Kinofilm Wir töten Stella by Julian Pölsler. 2018 machte sie die Matura and had a role as Anna in Die letzte Party deines Lebens . What, what, what? Do you even read these articles you create before publishing them? This is terrible, I try to correct the articles you create related to opera but you create so many and in different areas it is impossible to check them all. Can you make any sense of that article User:Gerda Arendt?
