I'm currently writing an article regarding a military battle (Battle of Geumyangjang-Ri) with limited sources which can be cited. == How do I add a Polish-language article to the English Wiki? ==
Not sure how to fix this in her profile but whoever wrote that she is GERMAN (??) French clearly has made a mistake. Romy was Austrian. Good morning! I am interested in Colonel Kazimierz Deszberg of the Austro-Hungarian Army in WWI and the Polish Army in the inter-war period. He is featured in the Polish Wiki at ] – Misplaced Pages, wolna encyklopedia though his biography is a bit incomplete. Can I simply do an English translation of that article, trim it up a little (a second marriage and a link to the article about Brygidki Prison where he was imprisoned before being murdered in the Katyn Forest massacres), and publish it complete with the Polish-language citations?
:Hi. Best place to discuss such issues is usually the article talk page. In this case it's unlikely that would change something though: ]'s mother was German and her father took the German citizenship in 1937. Later on Romy Schneider also took the French citizenship. There's more details on that also at ]. – ] (]) 11:27, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

:Hello, @]. I'm afraid that the answer is probably "No"; but it depends on the quality of the citations in the Polish article. If enough of the sources cited there meet English Misplaced Pages's criteria for ] to establish that he meets English Misplaced Pages's criteria for ], then yes, you can simply translate it. (If there are equally good sources in English, it would be preferred to cite them rather than Polish ones, but Polish sources are perfectly acceptable if they are better than any English ones).

== CSD G3 == == "Via" formatting/usage ==

Hi all, quick question about formatting the "via" in a web-based citation.
I've nominated two pages at MfD, and both got deleted per ]. I'm not sure what constitutes 'pure vandalism.' ] says:
<blockquote>This is ''usually'' clear cut. Articles that simply have a photo of a penis transcluded on it, a page consisting entirely of "I LIKE POTATOES", and the like – that's "pure vandalism."</blockquote>
So 'pure vandalism' means stuff that would be reverted as vandalism if it were added to a page? ] (] | ]) 17:54, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

I'm using open-source link for an exhibition catalogue for the artist Melvin Edwards published in 2019 ({{OCLC|1232485775}}) in the further reading section of an article. The link is a digitized version of the catalogue, seemingly scanned and uploaded from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's library. I have to assume they got the correct the permissions to digitize the catalogue and make it freely available given that library's size/expertise on these kinds of sources, so I ''think'' it would be appropriate to use that link, correct? But I wasn't sure if it was necessary to add a "via library..." to the citation to show where the link originated. Is that necessary here? Thanks all!

] (]) 16:11, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
:What do you mean by {{tq|open source}}? Did you mean free-to-read?
:
:You are citing an exhibition catalog published by Alexander Gray Associates. When I click on the linked title, I end up at some more-or-less anonymous Amazon Web Services page without any apparent connection to the publisher. We use {{para|via}} to name the delivery service if different from the publisher so some sort of {{para|via}} is appropriate here. You could be right that the Amazonws page is 'owned' by the Metropolitan Museum of Art Thomas J. Watson Library. But, if I backtrack to http://libmma.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com I get a 404-not-found error so the 'owner' apparently doesn't care to explicitly identify themselves.
:
:How did you get to the Amazonws page? Is there a landing page at either of the Metropolitan Museum of Art or Thomas J. Watson Library websites with a link that gets you to the Amazonws page? If yes, use that landing page url for {{para|url}} and name the museum or library (as appropriate) in {{para|via}}. That not being possible, I suppose that you are stuck with what you've got but the provenance isn't as good. You might want to make sure that the catalog is archived someplace.
:—] (]) 18:20, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
::The WorldCat listing for the digital version of the catalogue describes the link as "open access", which is why I linked it in my question. That is where I got the link for this source. And it took me 5 seconds to Google "libmma" and realize that link was hosted via the Met's library, as confirmed by the in their catalogue. --] (]) 21:32, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

== Smart solution to group articles related to ] == == Trying to add a category to a talk page ==

On all the vital articles pages, more specifically the talk pages, there are these categories on the bottom of the page (ex. ]) B-Class level-1 vital articles
Hi everyone! ] is the first article I created myself in the English Misplaced Pages mainspace and I wanted to ask how to group and link articles to this page in a smart way. This ice show is mostly known in Japan, but it gained international media attention this year with reports by the Olympic Channel amongst others. My three ideas to group related articles to this page are the following:
Misplaced Pages level-1 vital articles in Arts
# create a navigation template at the bottom of the page, listing the main cast members and guest artists. This would have the advantage that the template can be included on the skaters' and artists' pages as well and attract more readers from different fields. Especially the bios pages of less known artists outside Japan would profit from that, I think. On the other hand, other ice show articles like ] don't have a navbox either, so I don't know if it's appropriate/necessary to use one here.
B-Class vital articles in Arts. My question to you is I would like to edit the template so that it adds the broader category of Category:Misplaced Pages level-1 vital articles to each article at the appropriate level. Any idea on how I could do that? I hope I explained my query well. ] (]) 00:38, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
# add a sentence or short paragraph about the show in the prose part of related bios pages. I have done that for some main cast members already, but it might be unfitting/irrelevant for certain artists.
# create categories for the cast members (main cast at least) and guest artists. This solution is my personal favorite, but before I start with the linking process, I'd like to hear other opinions as well.
Thank you very much in advance ] (]) 09:08, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

:::: Thanks. That's helpful. So, is it more about notable life achievements, or about general popularity? One could have a long list of notable achievements not generally covered in national press, and yet remain generally unknown. For instance, my TED Talk has been viewed over 1M times, and millions of people use computers by a company I helped start, and thousands of people have read about me and my inventions in major media .... but why would any of those people feel compelled to write a Wiki page about me? Does that make my lifetime of invention and achievement less notable? Compare this (for example) to a musician who had a song that reached #67 on Billboard, but who's brief career then faded into obscurity. That person's song inspired a fan to write a Wiki page. Great. But is that truly Misplaced Pages's definition of notoriety? How does Misplaced Pages justify this clear dilemma between "being known for writing a song" and decades of sustained, notable life achievements covered in multiple international media? One more thought ... just about every person who's ever given a TED Talk has a ]. (e.g., being selected to give a Main Stage TED Talk is, I would suggest, like having a song high on the Billboard charts). As I reviewed 25-30 of these TEDTalkers' personal pages picked at random, easily over 90% of these persons do not seem "generally popular" enough to compel a random stranger to write up their Misplaced Pages pages (exceptions would include global celebrities like Julian Assange and JJ Abrams). For instance, let's take the very first entry, ], a writer. I see no "significant coverage of him as a person in reliable sources that are entirely independent of him and his companies." :::::As people have said above, this really depends. If you want to do some reading here you can read up on ]. There's a lot in there so you'd probably want to focus on ]. Usually people in business fall under general notability guidelines which is what was described above. There are people who will write an article about you (presuming you meet notability guidelines) who do this for a job. They'd have to disclose that they were paid editors and this can sometimes have a "vanity press" feel to it, but it is possible. And as to your question, awards and fellowships (which often result in coverage in reliable sources) can sometimes be part of meeting general notability guidelines. Definitely true for the larger awards and fellowships. Misplaced Pages's a giant boat that is tough to steer, but it's usually worth the effort to spend time understanding how the giant website works and what it's expecting if your end goal is to have an article about your accomplishments. It's a nearly-all-volunteer site which can explain the odd and oftentimes uneven coverage. ] (]) 03:30, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
::::::Misplaced Pages operates in accordance with policies and guidelines. We do not make things up on the fly for cases that have occurred millions of times. And this is the short form version of the guideline for what type of people are eligible for a biography in this encyclopedia: {{tpq|A person is presumed to be notable if they have received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject.}} There is a lot of debate about the details, but there is broad agreement among experienced editors that this is the basic standard that must be met for a biography. ] (]) 03:45, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
:::::::As for the quality of the article ], please be aware that English Misplaced Pages has over 6.5 million articles and well over a million of them have serious problems. Perhaps several million. Volunteers work constantly to either improve or delete these articles. We do not accept from any specific person the argument that because this encyclopedia has some substandard articles, it ought to accept a new substandard article about that specific person. This is 2022 and we enforce standards today that were not really enforced when this encyclopedia was in an explosive growth phase, peaking in 2006-2007. That was 15 years ago and this encyclopedia is only 22 years old. We are in a constant state of self-improvement. As for a hypothetical musical performer who had one Billboard hit and then faded away, we have an article ] about that phenomenon. Many books have been written about this, which often describe various artists in detail. Significant coverage in the music and popular press will often be published on the 10th, 25th and 50th anniversaries of such hit songs. These artists may tour to lower level music venues for decades, gathering reviews of their performances in reliable independent sources. If you actually name some such specific person, then experienced editors here can offer opinions about that specific case. We prefer specific cases here instead of hypotheticals. So, instead of more hypotheticals that cannot be actually evaluated, bring forward links to significant coverage of ''you'' in independent, reliable sources. Then we will have the basis for an informed discussion. ] (]) 04:59, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

I personally believe Misplaced Pages is an equal-opportunity bureaucracy, but that there is a negative correlation between wanting to write about women and wanting to fight the bureaucracy, and that the sources of the anti-correlation are found mostly though not entirely outside Misplaced Pages.)
::::::::That example shows that you could have outstanding accomplishments, but if the available sources are niche / hard to find / etc., getting an article accepted still has an element of randomness. As to the question of uploading that picture which was taken by your relative, you can do this yourself by using the Commons upload wizard located at BUT, because you are not the copyright holder (your relative who took the photo is) you must simultaneously get him or her to contact the Volunteer Response Team (VRT) by email to confirm that they are happy to release the copyright under a suitable license. == About your style == == Template Categorization Confusion ==

So I'm trying to work on categorization tasks; specifically in Category:All uncategorized pages. Lets take for example, Template:Delay safesubst.
Thanks for emphasizing a good style. This is feedback about your style. I've noticed that you missed explaining basic terms for beginners in this JavaScript 1st example. Is it laziness? A beginner should have a good beginning. All terms of the first example should be explained.

How am I supposed to correctly categorize this template?
"(You may want to = too many words) get our Module template": Is the module alias for a program or what? (too few words)

"which adds the Wikify maintenance template to articles": What articles? Only this one or all articles? Does it add text for one person or all?

"To begin, change MODULE_NAME in the module template… Your template should look like this: // Qwikify…": I suppose // means comment, not the name of a module or module template. But also this is presented strangely for a beginner.

"$(document).ready(function(){": You didn't explain what $() function is and if "document" is a variable or not. Many beginners see $ as a string symbol before compilation. (Etc.)

This all would have been very easy, but after your explanations, it's very difficult. And perhaps you say that this is again in the wrong place. Is this your style in every similar feedback: "Put this feedback to that page's Talk page where almost no one reads it"? Waiting for your good-style comment. Yours ] (]) 12:13, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello,

I noticed the "List of School Shootings in the United States" article https://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States is incomplete. I cannot edit it myself because it is (understandably) semi-protected. July 17, 2000 there was a school shooting in Washington State. no deaths or injuries but a school shooting. :::::@] When a student enrolls in a class, the Dashboard makes three automated edits with their account, creating their userpage, talk page, and default /sandbox page, and makes an edit adding them to a course page on Misplaced Pages (which is designed to mirror information on the Dashboard itself). :::::Sometimes, though, the initial edits fail. And sometimes students sign up for the Dashboard but fail to join a course. == Edit reverted by viewmont viking ==
So when needing to verify a source, and it having a paywall… doesn’t that detract from the foundation Misplaced Pages was built upon? You don’t ask to view an article or search for financial gain… why do you allow other companies to do the same on your behalf?! I wanted to see a source from The NY Times, but I had to pay $ for information that would take me 2 more minutes to find FOR FREE on a different outlet.

Hello, I am Olliebowen28. I am a new-ish user, and one of my first edits was to the Mankato west high school page. I added the school fight song lyrics and tune to the page. Then, some guy named Viewmont Viking came along and reverted it. The only reason he provided is, "WP is not a webhost." Being a new user, I have no idea what that means. I posted several comments explaining why my edit belongs in wikipedia, and I asked what "WP is not a webhost" means. He never responded to any of my comments, and in desperation for his attention, I reverted his edit of reverting my edit. I put in the description of my edit to look at the talk page comments, and he never looked nor explained. He also posted a few comments on my talk page, linking articles about wikipedia guidelines. None of them applied to my edit. All I ask is that my contribution not be reverted again, or if my contributions did violate some guideline that you explain what guideline was broken and how it can be fixed so that it doesn't.
I mention this because you should either negotiate a rate of commission based on subscription sales from your citations, or eliminate all of them. NO MERCY! : Many of Misplaced Pages's best articles are from the Arts and Sciences and are based on citing scholarly research. Such material is often behind a paywall because the journals in question have a very limited paying readership (often via university and commercial libraries) and have to fund themselves somehow. While there is a growing trend to open access, particularly for research funded by government money, it is unlikely that all sources will become free-to-access. Just be happy that Misplaced Pages is not short of cash and makes summaries of such research freely available thanks to the work of volunteers here. In many cases, Misplaced Pages provides a reliable summary of such material and means that most people don't need to pay anything — although donations to the WMF are welcome from those who can afford to make them. Hello. My employer would like to add additional factual statements to our branded Misplaced Pages pages. We have no intention of revising "controversial" content or what might be deemed negative. We simply want to add more facts about the business and business history. Further, we have noticed our right rail panels list out of date facts and would like to correct those. We have read the Misplaced Pages Paid Contribution and the Conflict of Interest articles. Although, it would be nice to have updated and factual information on our branded pages, we do not want to activate the COI warning. The COI page was not clear about when a page receives that warning. If we are merely adding facts does that automatically require the COI warning on our pages?

== How to re-enable alerts on new in-links pointing to a given article ==
== Two questions ==

I received an alert (Bell icon) about a new in-link targeting article FOO that I follow, and clicked in the alert to go to the Foo-linking article. At least, that's what I wanted to do, but in reality, I mistakenly clicked something in the message that caused a message to appear saying "You will no longer be notified about in-links to FOO". How do I undo this? I still want to be notified when editors add links to FOO from other articles. I checked FOO, and I am still a watcher.
(1) Some editor keeps "following me around" and reverting all the edits I make. What's the proper course of action?

I searched around, but couldn't find how to undo this. At one point, I landed at ], but that's not it. (A hatnote added to the top of that page linking wherever the right page is would be helpful to other users who encounter this.)
(2) Related to Question 1. Said editor claims that we cannot italicize titles of Talk Pages. Something that I have been doing for 15 years now. What's the status of this "issue"?

As a corollary, on the analogy of email unsubscribe-confirmed messages that provide a 'Resubscribe' link in case you just made a mistake and never intended to unsubscribe, a small, added, <em><u>Undo alert removal</u></em> link added to the you-will-no-longer-be-notified message that would undo the action would be nice. Overusage of Citation

I'm currently writing an article regarding a military battle (Battle of Geumyangjang-Ri) with limited sources which can be cited. I've only been able to find one academic paper (can attach if requested) with somewhat comprehensive details of the battle. Other sources have limited/unimportant information or cannot be cited. Whats the point at which it becomes an issue to rely on one source? ExiaMesa (talk) 02:14, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

If you only have one reliable source, it's already a problem, as you haven't begun to approach notability. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:31, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
That was my secondary concern. Though based on my research its a moderately notable battle (not in terms of the Misplaced Pages guidelines), I think the lack of reliable english sources is contributable to the lack of US involvement. (The engagement occurred between an Turkish Brigade and PLA forces.) Is 2-3 sources sufficient or should I try a search into various romanizations and possibly turkish language sources. If it was a battle that was a part of the Korean War than it might be appropriate as a section within the greater war, and a single reliable source might be sufficient, but it sounds like right now without more reliable sources a separate article might be problematic. TiggerJay(talk) 04:36, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

Special:Log has a bunch of filter options, but not one for namespace. Is it possible to only see log entries for a particular namespace, like how Special:NewPages does it? Thanks. ''']''' (talkcontribs) 11:22, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

It is not, and we've been asking since (at least) 2008 - there are a few combinations of parameters (primarily log type) that, combined with this, would make it unacceptably slow, and resistance to adding indices to fix that. There's support for doing it through the API (most recent deletions from mainspace, for example), and it can be queried for through Quarry or similar tools - and if you have specific queries you want to run, I can help with that - but adding it to the web interface would amount to a free denial-of-service attack. —Cryptic 09:59, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
Oh wow, I didn't expect this to have been an issue for nearly 2 decades. I'll run a simple Quarry query then. Thanks for the reply! ''']''' (talkcontribs) 08:42, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

How do I add a Polish-language article to the English Wiki?

Good morning! I am interested in Colonel Kazimierz Deszberg of the Austro-Hungarian Army in WWI and the Polish Army in the inter-war period. He is featured in the Polish Wiki at pl:Kazimierz Deszberg – Misplaced Pages, wolna encyklopedia though his biography is a bit incomplete. Can I simply do an English translation of that article, trim it up a little (a second marriage and a link to the article about Brygidki Prison where he was imprisoned before being murdered in the Katyn Forest massacres), and publish it complete with the Polish-language citations?

Thank you, and if there's a better place to ask, please point me there.... AVGbuff (talk) 12:56, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

Hello, @AVGbuff. I'm afraid that the answer is probably "No"; but it depends on the quality of the citations in the Polish article. If enough of the sources cited there meet English Misplaced Pages's criteria for reliability, independence, and significant coverage of Deszberg to establish that he meets English Misplaced Pages's criteria for notability, then yes, you can simply translate it. (If there are equally good sources in English, it would be preferred to cite them rather than Polish ones, but Polish sources are perfectly acceptable if they are better than any English ones).
But most articles in other Wikipedias (and, to be honest, many articles in English Misplaced Pages) do not meet the current standards for sourcing, so will not be accepted as they stand.
General guidance is at WP:translation. ColinFine (talk) 13:20, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
A translated article has to meet the same requirements as any other article, so Help:Your first article is relevant as well. TSventon (talk) 13:25, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

    "Via" formatting/usage

Hi all, quick question about formatting the "via" in a web-based citation.

I'm using this open-source link for an exhibition catalogue for the artist Melvin Edwards published in 2019 (OCLC 1232485775) in the further reading section of an article. The link is a digitized version of the catalogue, seemingly scanned and uploaded from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's library. I have to assume they got the correct the permissions to digitize the catalogue and make it freely available given that library's size/expertise on these kinds of sources, so I think it would be appropriate to use that link, correct? But I wasn't sure if it was necessary to add a "via library..." to the citation to show where the link originated. Is that necessary here? Thanks all!

Here's how I think it would be formatted:

    19h00s (talk) 16:11, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

What do you mean by open source? Did you mean free-to-read?
You are citing an exhibition catalog published by Alexander Gray Associates. When I click on the linked title, I end up at some more-or-less anonymous Amazon Web Services page without any apparent connection to the publisher. We use |via= to name the delivery service if different from the publisher so some sort of |via= is appropriate here.
How did you get to the Amazonws page? Is there a landing page at either of the Metropolitan Museum of Art or Thomas J. Watson Library websites with a link that gets you to the Amazonws page? If yes, use that landing page url for |url= and name the museum or library (as appropriate) in |via=. That not being possible, I suppose that you are stuck with what you've got but the provenance isn't as good. You might want to make sure that the catalog is archived someplace.
Trappist the monk (talk) 18:20, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
The WorldCat listing for the digital version of the catalogue describes the link as "open access", which is why I linked it in my question. That is where I got the link for this source. And it took me 5 seconds to Google "libmma" and realize that link was hosted via the Met's library, as confirmed by the listing in their catalogue. --19h00s (talk) 21:32, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

    Misplaced Pages:Article_wizard/HowToDiscloseCOI

At least for me, there is a short description reading "Youngest Somali Writer is Mohamed Aden Ibrahim or Maxamed Aadan Samaysane he is the Author of Da'yartii Dunida book and more than 100 articles." I can't figure out which template this is coming from, could someone take a look? JayCubby 17:07, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

    Thanks. JayCubby 17:17, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
Is there any chance this could be a problem on other pages? I'm basing that off this Wikidata entry including about a dozen other Wikipedias' COI disclosure wizard links. Is it possible to nominate an entire Wikidata entry for deletion? - Purplewowies (talk) 17:32, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
Or the actual links have been removed and I'm just seeing a bit of garbage info near the top of the entry. Question still stands but I'm less worried about it affecting the wikis now. - Purplewowies (talk) 17:35, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
@Pickersgill-Cunliffe: Looks like the entry was supposed to be linked to those pages but someone thoroughly vandalized it. I've reverted to the last good version of the entry. - Purplewowies (talk) 17:43, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

That Citizen100 appears to contribute almost solely to their late father... With virtually all 20 edits having to do with the article on Paul. On all the vital articles pages, more specifically the talk pages, there are these categories on the bottom of the page (ex. Talk:The arts) B-Class level-1 vital articles Misplaced Pages level-1 vital articles in Arts B-Class vital articles in Arts. Any idea on how I could do that? I hope I explained my query well. Interstellarity (talk) 00:38, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

B  This text is a certain distance from the left edge of the page.

How do I make a Misplaced Pages page look likek this? Thank you in advance. Jan Arvid Götesson (talk) 01:50, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Template:Indent might be what you're looking for. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 02:19, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
Thanks but no. Template Indent does not allow me to put the “A” and the “B” on the first and third lines of my example above. Jan Arvid Götesson (talk) 08:21, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
I can think of, hm, at least three ways to format text like that, depending on what it's supposed to convey semantically - a list of two items each split by a linebreak, a list of four items with no list marker on #2 and #4 and an explicit value on #3, and a table. They're all kind of clumsy and I don't think any of them would be appropriate in articles. What specifically are you trying to do? —Cryptic 09:17, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
Thansk for responding. You can see what I am trying to do in an article that I have only worked on in Swedish at the moment. Please go to Högstenagaldern  by clicking “sv”. Please go to section “Radikal nytolkning”. There you will see four lines in a runic inscription. It means side A, line 1, side A, line 2, side B, line 1, side B, line 2. Jan Arvid Götesson (talk) 09:36, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
{{Ordered list}} does what you want. Example:
      1. kalanta uiþr kalkla uiþr riþa‐ta uiþ
      2. uiþr rinanta uiþr salianta ui‐
      1. r sikn--a uiþr f-ranta uiþr f̣liuh
      2. a͡nta s-̣-a͡lọlt fuþiʀ auk um tu-ạ
Or directly with html tags, if you don't want to import the template:
      1. kalanta uiþr kalkla uiþr riþa‐ta uiþ
      2. uiþr rinanta uiþr salianta ui‐
      1. r sikn--a uiþr f-ranta uiþr f̣liuh
      2. a͡nta s-̣-a͡lọlt fuþiʀ auk um tu-ạ
The extra whitespace displaying here before the numerals is fixable, but how to do that depends on how the css is set up on svwiki. —Cryptic 10:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

    Creating a disambiguation page

Hi, I have a somewhat technical question related to creating a disambiguation page. I've noticed that the word "Nuda" redirects to Beroidae, and there are two pages whose title is the word "Nuda" itself, but with a disambiguating parenthesis (Nuda (album); Nuda (song)). I think it would be appropriate to create a disambiguation page for these and make it the primary page, but I'm not sure how to proceed without breaking links or perhaps going against MOS. Could you please give me some pointers? Cheers! Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 03:21, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Thanks @TSventon. If I move Nuda (disambiguation) to Nuda, would the latter then become the disambiguation page? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 15:50, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
Revirvlkodlaku yes, my suggestion produces a disambiguation page at "Nuda" and a redirect at "Nuda (disambiguation)". You could achieve a similar result by editing "Nuda" to create a disambiguation page and creating a new redirect at "Nuda (disambiguation)". TSventon (talk) 16:56, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Please look at reference number 41 - I have tried so hard to get it right. Thanks for repairing. Srbernadette (talk) 05:56, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

@Srbernadette: I replaced the reference to fix the errors. The first CS1 error was indicating that there was a generic name in the |last= parameter. In this case, it looks like the last name was listed as Correspondent, which is the generic name the template didn't like. The second error was stating that bolding or italics markup isn't allowed in the |website= parameter. The ''Newsweek'' name with the apostrophes isn't allowed with that parameter because the name is automatically italicized when it renders. When citing websites or books, I will usually use this tool to create the reference for me because its a lot simpler. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them here. cyberdog958 08:17, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Could one nominate an article, even while >90% of the article is copied? I'm planning on putting General secretaryship of Mikhail Gorbachev up at GAN after some copyediting if that is allowed. All Tomorrows No Yesterdays (Ughhh.... What did I do wrong this time?) 14:56, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Hello All Tomorrows No Yesterdays! Any article can theoretically be nominated if it meets the good article criteria, but you should have a strong understanding of the sourcing it uses and make sure you've checked it against the criteria. You might consider raising this at the good article talk page. The most active GAN reviewers watch that page so you should be able to get a more in-depth answer about the actual process there. Daily Star is a prominent Bangladeshi newspaper. It has covered so many news for long days. There had been many things happened from 90s to 2025. Various important topics which is widely cited before we can't add in English Misplaced Pages as there is no source or is not available in online. But I have images of Daily star news as pdf file. i want to add it as source. How can I do that? Anyone can check it from প্রলয়স্রোত (talk) 20:27, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

@প্রলয়স্রোত: A reliable published source does not have to be available online. See WP:RS. It just must be theoretically possible for a member of the general public somewhere to go see a physical copy, e.g., in a library in Bangladesh. It is not legal for you to upload an image as that would be a copyright violation. -Arch dude (talk) 21:01, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

    uploaded wrong picture

I uploaded an image inadvertently. How can I remove it? Lauranorcal (talk) 21:42, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

@Lauranorcal: You uploaded it at commons:File:Michael Alexander Kahn.jpg. Place {{SD|G7}} at top of the page. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:55, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
How can I delete it? I'd like to do that before I upload the right one. Thanks. Lauranorcal (talk) 23:00, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
@Lauranorcal: you can edit the code at commons:File:Michael Alexander Kahn.jpg and add {{SD|G7}} at top of the page. That will show a notice that you have requested deletion and Commons admins will deal with your request. TSventon (talk) 23:52, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

    Template Categorization Confusion

So I'm trying to work on categorization tasks; specifically in Category:All uncategorized pages. Lets take for example, Template:Delay safesubst.

How am I supposed to correctly categorize this template?

At first I thought I should just write:

    ]

Then I read a bit and now thought, what if I put the category on the /doc page and {{subst:Delay safesubst} } on the main template.

What am I supposed to do for moving both template and their doc pages? Even if I give the doc page a category, Category:All uncategorized pages, still retains the template (item). Bondishloka (talk) 09:03, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

@Bondishloka generally the way templates are categorized is by using {{sandbox other}} on its doc page, like this. ''']''' (talkcontribs) 09:16, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

    Annoying map in Infobox

Using "display=title" in "Template-Coord"" displays the coordinates above the wiki article.
In my sandbox of the Yisan article, no map is shown under "Tambon" in Infobox.
But when I copy this "Yisan" article from my sandbox to the "Yisan" wiki article, a map automatically appears under "Tambon" in Infobox.
The question is how can I stop this annoyance.
    SietsLSietsL (talk) 12:35, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

@SietsL: the info box uses {{Infobox settlement}}, which includes a mapframe map based on Wikidata by default. Your sandbox is not linked to Wikidata, so no map is produced. You can hide the map by adding "|mapframe = no" as an extra line in the infobox. TSventon (talk) 13:03, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

    Close paraphrasing issues

Hello. I want to expand stub articles on Misplaced Pages without being blocked for copyright violations of close paraphrasing. I have been reading Misplaced Pages:Close paraphrasing#How to write acceptable content and I want to add information from the Handbook of Texas and Texas Escapes magazine into the articles I have created or expanded. I have read the template in that section with the title "Example: close paraphrasing repaired", where it says to bring in other sources and "read source information, preferably taking notes to extract essential points, and write a summary in your own words, thereby producing an acceptable version." Although the Handbook of Texas has "fair use" guidelines, I want to write paragraphs that bring together information from two sources, without maintaining the previous sentence structure or style. How can I go about doing that, or should I not do that at all? I haven't edited on Misplaced Pages much, so I want to get some guidance. Thank you. Colman2000 (talk) 19:53, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

(had to battle my way through a IP spam army) Essentially, if it's not fair use, than see that it's still possible; I would suppose, given they have a copyright over the latest edition of their handbook, trying a earlier one (or rather, look for any excerpts out there). 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 23:01, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

    Edit reverted by viewmont viking

    Many thanks, OllieBowen28 (talk) 22:25, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

Contents in Misplaced Pages articles need to be Verifiable in reliable sources, therefore informations that might not be significant enough to get coverage from reliable sources typically wouldn't be included due to the difficulty in finding sources for them. You should provide citation for the content you added, otherwise other editors would not be able to check its reliability. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 22:40, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. I will try to find a reliable source OllieBowen28 (talk) 22:55, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
@OllieBowen28, the lyrics to the school's fight song might be protected by copyright. But even if they aren't, they're trivia, not something that belongs in an encyclopedia article. Schazjmd (talk) 23:15, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
Hello, @OllieBowen28. See WP:NOTWEBHOST; the implication is that the other user believed that the material you added was not encyclopaedic.
Quite apart from that, there is the question of copyright: you may not insert copyright material into a Misplaced Pages article, unless it has been explicitly released or licensed appropriately.
One more point: you are edit-warring, and you must stop. Irrespective of right and wrong, edit-warring is forbidden. ColinFine (talk) 23:16, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

    Women's Sports Network

Considering creating a draft article for Women's Sports Network, a free ad-supported streaming television service. For some reason the title is blacklisted. Anyone know the reason why? Esolo5002 (talk) 23:08, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

@Esolo5002: Are you sure that's the exact title you tried? Your post here used a normal apostrophe which is allowed but a similar character is disallowed. Compare Draft:Women's Sports Network (allowed) and Draft:Women’s Sports Network (disallowed). PrimeHunter (talk) 23:26, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

    copyvio

Stumbled across this article: Michael Habermann. Aside from questioning its notability, the article is practically verbatim from a direct primary source with 80% copyvio, here: and and reads like a resume. Is there a template that can be placed on the article stating this or something similar to invite editors to clean-up / re-write the article with secondary sources in their own words? There is already a "BLP sources" at the header. Maybe that's enough? Maineartists (talk) 00:39, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

Definitely a copyvio situation. While our article predates the earliest Internet Archive copies of those two sources, the earliest version of our article is a verbatim copy of the musician's website of the time. See https://web.archive.org/web/20040204000620/http://www.michaelhabermann.com/ and https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Michael_Habermann&oldid=24277064 There is no copyright mention on the musician's website so we have to assume it is copyrighted. There are only minor differences between the current article and the initial 2005 version, so in my opinion this is a WP:TNT situation. the entire article should be deleted as a copyvio, and recreated with independent sources if warranted. Meters (talk) 01:51, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
His current page, https://www.michaelhabermann.com/ is copyrighted 2001, and the ABOUT MICHAEL HABERMANN subpage, https://www.michaelhabermann.com/about/_index.html is unchanged from the version we copied in 2005. Meters (talk) 01:59, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Nominated as a copyvio WP:TNT at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Michael Habermann. Meters (talk) 02:11, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

    Do not see edit button

I do not see an edit button when I log in. Have I been blocked? If so, why? Davidhhelman (talk) 01:55, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

You are not blocked. If you were you would not have been able to edit this page. Meters (talk) 02:00, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
@Davidhhelman: There are some pages that have certain levels of protection. Did you see a lock icon by the top-right corner of the page? An exception I'm aware of is the main page, which is fully protected, or administrator-only. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 02:05, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
If you can share what pages you were looking at, we could confirm if they are indeed protected which might prevent you from editing. Depending on what device/brower/skin you're using instead of an edit button you might see something like "view source" and if you see that, then there is a very high likelyhood the page you want to edit has been protected, often because of vandalism, and things such as recent political events or global news are often falling into this category. If you want to see something changed on those pages, you can make a WP:EDITREQUEST on the talk page of the article. When you do that, please be specific on you want "X changed to Y" and provide reliable sources to support that change. TiggerJay(talk) 15:17, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

Question related to Speedy deletion criteria

Does CSD G-14 apply if the disambiguation page has other red links? E.g. there is a ship name index page and there is one ship with an article but another without an article yet(however there is a link to it's ship class's article) Thehistorianisaac (talk) 03:31, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

That does not sound like G14 because it's not an obvious and not-reasonably-debatable case. It sounds like there are at least two entries that have bluelink, even if one is only for an article about a broader topic. Could that broader-topic page specifically mention this specific example, such that this example's red-link be made a redirect to it (and therefore blue)? All that takes is one ref. Are there enough refs available you could write a small stub-article? DMacks (talk) 05:02, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

    Regarding this

How do I let newcomers know that they can ask me questions like the link? TheTechie@enwiki (she/they | talk) 04:10, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

    Reference formatting

I am not an expert on the different ways of laying out references, but the way it is done at the end of Karma Paul looks really strange to me. It starts with standard refs, then switches to a form that has reference numbers (to those earlier refs) with page numbers. Is this an acceptable form of referencing, or does it need to be fixed? I will be interested to learn... Gronk Oz (talk) 10:24, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

Hypothesis: It's an attempt to avoid using in-line Template:Reference page while technically perhaps not mixing reftag/sfn citing. It looks very weird and IMO still goes against at least the spirit of WP:REFVAR. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:00, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
I didn't really feel that the footnote template worked very well but haven't come across the Reference page template until now. I'll revise those on the Karma Paul page. Thanks for flagging it up. Babybrew6 (talk) 11:54, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

    Help! Rail-interchange

I want to add a new rail-interchange template for the red line of Namma metro (displayed here Template:Rail-interchange/doc/IN), but couldn't seem to figure out how others were added. I searched everywhere but could not find anything. Footy2000♡; 14:37, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

I think you would do better to ask at TT:Rail-interchange/IN (which has not so far been created) or perhaps better still to add an edit request at TT:Rail-interchange ColinFine (talk) 15:33, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

How to re-enable alerts on new in-links pointing to a given article

I received an alert (Bell icon) about a new in-link targeting article FOO that I follow, and clicked in the alert to go to the Foo-linking article. At least, that's what I wanted to do, but in reality, I mistakenly clicked something in the message that caused a message to appear saying "You will no longer be notified about in-links to FOO". How do I undo this? I still want to be notified when editors add links to FOO from other articles. I checked FOO, and I am still a watcher.

I searched around, but couldn't find how to undo this. At one point, I landed at Misplaced Pages:Article alerts, but that's not it. (A hatnote added to the top of that page linking wherever the right page is would be helpful to other users who encounter this.)

As a corollary, on the analogy of email unsubscribe-confirmed messages that provide a 'Resubscribe' link in case you just made a mistake and never intended to unsubscribe, a small, added, Undo alert removal link added to the you-will-no-longer-be-notified message that would undo the action would be nice. Where would I propose that? Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 20:25, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
