==Re: Tennis date delinking==
Hi Rambling Man, thank you for wishing me luck! However, I hope to not need luck, lol. I understand that there have been some issues in the past, some of them possibly with ], but I also feel that it isn't anything which can't be resolved. The previous discussion which you linked to is very long and even descended into some personal grievances, and I hope that a fresh call for simple support and opposes can avoid that whole mess. Perhaps I am being naïve, but I intend to approach the issue with good faith all 'round, and with the right touches, reach consensus without too much conflict. Personally, I do not either agree or disagree with the delinking/linking of dates and common terms – I can see the benefits in both methods. What I do know is that the current state of edit warring over the debate is intensely counter-productive, and I only wish to faciliate a firm, WikiProject Tennis solution, and I think that Tennis expert is in favour of reaching a decision, too. Let's see how it goes and assume the best from everyone, :-) ]\] 10:33, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|AirshipJungleman29}}, who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|BeanieFan11}}, who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Generalissima}} scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Sammi Brie}} with 879 points, {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Hey man im josh}} with 533 points, {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|BennyOnTheLoose}} with 432 points, {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Arconning}} with 244 points, and {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|AryKun}} with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!
== ] ==

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Misplaced Pages has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

==Help==
Hi there. I'd really like some help with an issue that has plagued Misplaced Pages for quite some time. If you're too busy in real life, just let me know.

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.
I'll go straight to the point. You may consider the incident rather trivial, but it's implications aren't.

*{{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Generalissima}} wins the featured article prize for 3 FAs in round 4, and 7 FAs overall.
Do you believe that it is fair and effective for a group of 10 or so editors to effect a change in the way every single Wikipeia music articles are edited and constructed? Editors of ] feel that they have the right to discuss and change the way articles and templates under the project are set up, showing wanton disregard for the views of anyone else outside the project. They ignore the fact the changes they make to their templates affect all of Misplaced Pages, since we have to use these templates, and seem not to care that an increasing number of editors oppose the change.
*{{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Hey man im josh}} wins the featured list prize for 23 FLs overall.
*{{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|MaranoFan}} wins the featured topic prize for 9 articles in featured topics in round 1.
*{{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Hey man im josh}} wins the featured content reviewer prize for 110 FA/FL reviews overall.
*{{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|BeanieFan11}} wins the good article prize for 58 GAs in round 5, and 70 GAs overall.
*{{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Fritzmann}} wins the good topic prize for 6 articles in good topics in round 2.
*{{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Sammi Brie}} wins the good article reviewer prize for 45 GA reviews in round 2, and 78 GA reviews overall.
*{{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|BeanieFan11}} wins the DYK prize, for 131 Did you know articles overall.
*{{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Muboshgu}} wins the ITN prize, for 15 In the news articles in round 1, and 36 overall.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to ''']'''; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!
A few days ago, the editors had a discussion amongst themselves (see ], ] and ]) and concluded that it was o.k to remove the genre field from all infoboxes in the music articles (artist and album articles). Their rationale: it reduces edit warring. However, the genre field is extremely useful to these articles, and even if they are removed, there is nothing barring editors from changing any genre related info in the body of the article.

The point I'm trying to make is that it goes against everything Misplaced Pages stands for, to have a group of editors — and such a small number at that— decide what goes and what stays in every music article. What we have is them saying is this:

:"It is compulsory that you use our infobox in every music article. And since it is our infobox, a contingent of 15 editors have decided to control the way every article is set up. We get to decide what goes and what doesn't go in all of the articles regarding music on Misplaced Pages."

Hi TRM, before you go circumnavigating, would you be able to answer a list question for me please. I am working on articles for the seven covered bridges in ] with an eye to a Featured Topic. Three of the individual bridge articles are FAs, and I am pretty sure I can get three more there, while the last bridge has so little material on it that I think it will be a GA. Anyway, my question is: is there a lower limit on the number of items in a list for FL? There are only seven bridges on this list ], but it seems like the ideal lead article for a future FT. As one of the promoters of the change in practice, I've cautioned other supporters against edit-warring on the matter. After all, one of the arguments put against the change was that DA stops edit warring. Although I don't believe it was a valid argument, I don't want to give ammunition to those who might throw back at me their prior warnings.

I saw your revert just a few minutes ago and added a note at the talk of Cedric Pioline asking T F to put his case. I've let user Maedin know. I think the best strategy is to gather together those at Tennis WikiProject who are on board. ] ] 10:04, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, Delaware BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Canada Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and Christmas Island AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:10, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Mentoring for FAC

Hi, I'm contacting you because I noticed your username is listed at WP:FAM and I am interested in nominating a FAC but have never done so in the past. I'm contacting several people listed as FA mentors so if you are busy that is okay. The article is Neurocysticercosis, a parasitic brain disease. I have started a peer review for the article which can be found at Misplaced Pages:Peer review/Neurocysticercosis/archive1. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration! Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. January music

story · music · places

Happy new year 2025, opened with trumpet fanfares that first sounded OTD in 1725 (as the Main page had). My story today is about a composer who influenced music history also by writing. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
