::The current files have clear mistakes in rendering and are even flagged as improper SVGs. The current files also are not compliant with their description because they are missing the colleté d'hermine. The overwritten versions don't appear to vastly differ from the original ones. I can't believe these versions are being gate-kept from being improved. <span style="color: #ffffff; background: linear-gradient(to right, red, black, red); box-shadow: 2px 2px 1px #000000;">]</span> 18:16, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
:::{{ping|Feitidede}} Thank you for your undertaking of this request. Given the apparent dispute over the matter of overwriting the existing files, I would instead propose uploading the correct versions of the flag and arms as completely new files, for which I've provided potential titles above (both of which use the native Breton name of the town to avoid confusion with the existing files).

:::Also, and sorry that I didn't make this clearer in the original request, but the corrected version of the COA should actually have the surrounding embellishments along with the shield (namely the yellow crown/castle at the top, the yellow branches on both sides, and the intertwining scroll with the words "WAR EVEZ"), as in the link. : Hi, if anyone fancies doing it, I would like to request a version of this graphic that also shows the actual percentages of votes cast for each of the parties in the 2015 general election. I am envisaging that this could be done using some kind of colour-coded graphical symbol -- one that can be distinguished from the dots representing the polls -- placed at the extreme right of the existing graphic. There would also need to be a way of explaining the meaning in the caption (see existing caption at e.g. ]). The actual numbers of votes cast for each of the parties are available . The colour-coding used in the graphic is explained in the above-linked caption. BTW, I mentioned this request to the creator of the image, but no response.

I know that what I propose looks crooked and worse than the current ones, but these are representations of a specific fabric from 1813, which is actually crooked . All current reproductions in use are crooked , this is the official version . It is a flag of historical importance to Argentina and at the same time the official flag of one of their provinces. This flag has two versions in the proportions of 8:5 like the original and an officially existing modified version in 5:8. We currently have 3 files should also have a new coat of arms, the first representing the Jujuly flag must have an 8:5 aspect ratio, the next two representing two versions of the flag used in the commemoration. The second file should be identical to the first and we don't really need a copy, but it has already been uploaded and therefore should also be fixed. I have provided a graphic that accurately reflects the original coat of arms, but it needs to be vectorized. : There is no need for a better version to be replaced with a worse version. All coat of arms provide a certain degree of artistic freedom to their illustrators. The current version has the same exact elements as the one you referenced. These files do not need improvements. If you really really really want a vector version of this coat of arms it should be uploaded as a different variant.<span style="color: #ffffff; background: linear-gradient(to right, red, black, red); box-shadow: 2px 2px 1px #000000;">]</span> 14:46, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

:::This rendering might not be used in practice, but they are not a wrong way of rendering the coat of arms. ::{{ping|Feitidede}} Definitely not in this case, Misplaced Pages is there to show how it is, not how it should be. What you propose can be done for towns and communes where the coats of arms are traditional and dozens of versions have been created or there is an imprecise description and there is no official graphic. This flag exists at too high a level, Argentines have been using it for 10 years, and those from Jujuy for 30, and they are not willing to embellish the design. This is because the coat of arms on the flag is one of the oldest preserved drawings of their national coat of arms and changing it misses the point. Any flag other than the official one, reproducing a specific artifact is simply a strange version of the Argentine coat of arms on a white background.] (]) 14:31, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

;Graphist opinion(s):
: {{I take|] (]) 16:07, 22 September 2015 (UTC)}}
: {{ping|czar}} This is an interesting request, and one that was solved mathematically using the data at the linked article. By definition, the population density is the population divided by area, or:
::<math>d_{pop} \equiv \frac{P}{A}</math> or, equivalently, <math>{P} = d_{pop} \cdot A</math>
: We want to resize each state according to its population, so each state's new area will be defined by a new (constant) population density, <math>d_{pop,n}</math>:
::<math>A_{new} = \frac{P}{d_{pop,n}}</math>
: We can substitute for <math>P</math> in the above expression to get:
::<math>A_{new} = \frac{P}{d_{pop,n}}
= \frac{ \left ( d_{pop} \cdot A \right )}{d_{pop,n}}
= A \cdot \left ( \frac{d_{pop}}{d_{pop,n}} \right )</math>
: This means the new area <math>A_{new}</math> is simply the existing area <math>A</math> multiplied by an areal scaling factor <math>\left ( \frac{d_{pop}}{d_{pop,n}} \right )</math>. Since area is the product of two dimensions, we can apply an equal scaling factor in each dimension (which is what the SVG expects) by taking the square root of the areal scaling factor:
:: <math>S_{x,y} = \sqrt{\frac{d_{pop}}{d_{pop,n}}}</math>
: I took the new population density to be equal to the 2013 population density of New Jersey, 1,210.1 persons per square mile, which in essence normalizes the scaling factor to New Jersey. For instance, California has a population density of 246.1 persons per square mile, so:
:: <math>S_{x,y}^{CA} = \sqrt{\frac{d_{pop}}{d_{pop,n}}}

= \sqrt{\frac{246.1}{1210.1}}

= 0.451</math>
: That means that I can apply a scaling transformation factor of 0.451 to the California SVG object in each (x,y) dimension. When all is said and done, though, I had to end up translating most of the state SVG objects as well, so it ended up being a matrix transform (scaling + translation). When the population and/or land areas update, the updated data could be used to adjust the scaling factors in the SVG directly without having to go through a graphical editor. Please feel free to adjust the SVG file to taste, as the scaling also affects the border size of the file.

The image is about half way down the page (yellowish). The transmitter is overall very similar to the receiver in that it is a box on top of a gun carriage, and differs mostly in the details of the antenna and truss work.

It is quite difficult to see the receiver antennas in the photograph, you can see a series of rods at the top of the lower truss, but I don't believe that is them, there is another row of rods below it but they are very difficult to make out. The illustration also lacks detail of the receiver antenna, but they would look very similar to the two seen on the transmitter.

::{{ping|Goran tek-en}} The first reference has the best quality and I think mostly you can use that as a guide. The first of the two images is the transmitter, which matches the one I have in the article. The active part of this system are a series of antenna "elements" (which together make the antenna as a whole) made from "have-wave dipoles", which are simply two wires placed end-to-end with a gap between them an a total length across the two one-half of the radio wavelength. The idea is like a guitar, if your "string" is one-half the wavelength of the note you play it will resonate, as long as you pluck it somewhere near the middle. Here you "pluck" it with an electrical generator connected at the mid-point.
::An interesting detail that is only visible in this image (not the ones I had seen earlier) is that the antennas have an interesting L shape, which I have not seen before. The "active" part of the antenna elements are the horizontal portions, which match the layout/polarization of the receiver antennas. I'm not sure what role the vertical portion plays, and none of my references seem to mention it. It appears they have connections at the top, but those might be supports, not electrical connections. Very interesting! Also note that the antenna mounted on the ladder has the same arrangement, but in this case it is upside down.
::The receiver is much simpler, with more "standard" horizontal elements. There are three of them along the main section, which you can make out in this image (barely) and then another mounted up top again. The idea was that the two on the outside part of the horizontal line would be compared to calculate the horizontal angle, and the upper one with the center to get the vertical angle. Also notice the whip-like vertical antennas behind the "ladder". There appear to be two of these, which strongly suggests they are IFF receivers. These are not part of the radar itself, they are a separate receiver tuned to the radios of friendly aircraft.

:::::::::Are those relevant for us? --''always ping me''-- ] (]) 12:14, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
::::::::::{{ping|Goran tek-en}} I am curious about those too! The actual antennas are connected to these objects. The antennas themselves cannot be seen in this photo though, but the very first URL you posted above (lookout point) does show the antennas themselves more clearly, they are the L-shaped objects. I believe the circled object is just a support rod of some sort, and not really important. If you look on that same image, it appears there are several more of these connected to the truss work, connecting at several points on the antenna, so I think this was just a mounting system that was intended to keep the antennas SOLIDLY fixed to the truss so you didn't have to re-adjust anything after moving the radar site.
::::::::::The first of the two new URLs you posted solves a mystery! That image is clearly the basis for the line drawing I posted on the Russian page. It is very annoying they have watermarked this, as the image is in the public domain (it's PD-50 as UK crown). The receiver is the item in the center of the image, with transmitters on the left and right sides. The details of the receiver are slightly more obvious here, but it is still not great.
::::::::::The French PDF also has several images of GL systems. The page "Grande Distance" shows a Mk. I transmitter on the right, I've not seen a description of what the smaller truss above the main one does but I suspect it is part of the EL attachment. On the Pas tous pareils page we see a more clear image of those "supports" in the upper right, but again the detail is lacking. The lower-right image shows the receiver in what I assume is the folded-up state for travel. ] (]) 13:07, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

: There is a problem with the first Image, made by {{u|Spitzl}}, as used on Misplaced Pages. First of all, weirdly, it is an SVG file, with only Bitmap content, the lines are not vector. But this problem is minor. The bigger one is the data itself. I went to http://stats.oecd.org/Index.aspx?QueryName=426&QueryType=View&Lang=en which is given as the source and downloaded the data myself, then made a new graph using the same data. But my graph looks different, which (given it is supposedly the same data from the same source) should not be the case.
;Discussion:
:In the second image I overlaid my own graph (thin lines) on the image currently used, trying to match the percentages and the years as exactly as possible. Sorry about Ireland, forgot about them. Everything is off, sometimes substantially so.
: Do you have more references of this flag? <span style="color: #ffffff; background: linear-gradient(to right, red, black, red); box-shadow: 2px 2px 1px #000000;">]</span> 18:02, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
:In the third image I did the same again, but this time disregarded the X- and Y-axis labeling (I know, you should not do this!) instead trying to match the lines as good as possible. Here most work out well, but France and Portugal are still very much off.
:I would love to upload my ODS file, but commons does not accept ODS files. Instead I describe what I did. I downloaded the annual growth rate table from the URL given above, then set 2000 as 100, and used the following formula for the next years: =LASTYEAR/(100+GROWTHRATE)*100
:Can anyone help making sense of this? Did I do something really wrong? Did Spitzl do something really wrong? Is there another explanation? Thanks a lot in advance.-- ] (]) 10:38, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
::Dear Lommes, when I made this graph I used the figures from "Total Economy". That means, when you go to the OECD data source, you need not change not only the measure drop down menu to "Index OECD base year (2010=100)" but also the sector to "Total Economy". Hope that solves the problem. If you still get different results, feel free to replace the graph with your own. Best wishes, --] (]) 20:24, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Small bodies of the Solar System.jpg|
</gallery>
;Article(s):
: ]
;Request:
: *Please remove the distracting watermarks in it, if possible. The author has released the image under the Creative Commonst Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International.
* Its title is both in incorrect English and not quite accurate. For example, Ganymede is the ninth-largest known body in the Solar System, larger than the planet Mercury, which hardly makes it a 'small body'. The shortest accurate title that I can think of is "Non-planets of the Solar System to scale".
* Its subtitle is not quite accurate either (Pluto is not a planet, so its moons do not fall under any of the categories mentioned) and is better in sentence case. It should be "Dwarf planets (Pluto & Ceres) • Moons of planets and dwarf planets • Asteroids • Comets".
* Sentence case is also better elsewhere in the image
* The zoomed-in images have a "NO TO SCALE", which should be "NOT TO SCALE"
* There is "THE RAPRESENTATION etc.". I can't quite figure out what this is supposed to tell the viewer, so I don't quite know how this is best rephrased. At the very least it should be "THE R'''E'''PRESENTATION" and "'''TO''' SCALE".
* There is a list of spacecraft that took images of the objects in the image. It should say "Voyager 1–2", with an endash (–), not a hyphen (-). There is also "Cassini-Huygens", which is best shortened to simply "Cassini", because the Huygens part was a lander and didn't take images from space.
* Every header has "XX moon(s) system". The "system" is simply unnecessary and should be removed.
* The asteroids' header says "Some Asteroid Belt Bodies". This is both inaccurate (433 Eros is a near-Earth asteroid) and clumsily said. It's better if it simply says "Some asteroids" or "Several asteroids".
* In the Pluto system, Stix → Styx
* Also in the Pluto system, there is a better image available of Nix (]) than currently used in the image. --] (]) 15:09, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

: A long standing problem I have had with images I have created in articles is putting bends in cables, pipes, wires etc. As an example, I would like to put a bend in the copper wire shown in the first image. I have never found a satisfactory way of doing this so that the highlighting follows the bend. If you zoom in on the bends in the second image you will see they have been bodged. Ideally, I would like to be able to draw an arbitrary path and have the highlighting follow the path. ::Thanks for the tip, I'll try it and see how I get on. It's a bit more messy than doing it with gradients, it is no longer a single object, so making adjustments to it are more complicated. It's a pity that gradients aren't more flexible. There is a limited repertoire and it seems to be impossible to place the stops of a gradient at arbitrary positions. At least, that is true in Inkscape. ]] 13:51, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

::::Yes, I had uderstood how you had achieved that. Rather, my point was that this is more difficult to manipulate than gradients. For example, the bent copper wire shown above was created by your method, but with more variations; one for each of the stops on the original straight wire. If I wish to shorten the angled portion of the wire, I must adjust the end nodes of each variation individually. This is not so hard with a vertical or horizontal wire, but is a pain for the example given. Note that this is not a made up example; I am ''really'' trying to do this right now. ]] 17:15, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

    Skip to:  To top of page Logo for Project:Graphics LabGraphics Lab/Illustration workshop Shortcuts

    The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
    This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Misplaced Pages article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.

    Advice to requesters

    All requests:

    • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Misplaced Pages's fair-use policies.
      • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
    • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
    • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

    SVG requests:

    • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
    • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

    Flag and arms of Plomelin - corrections

    Article(s)
    All articles these already appear on.
    Request
    Could somebody please modify the above files representing the flag and coat of arms of Plomelin, so that they look closer to the way they actually should? The proper version of the flag can be seen here and here. And the full version of the arms can be seen here (albeit obviously without the captions at the top and bottom). Thanks. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 14:47, 11 October 2024 (UTC) Bumping thread. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 12:37, 10 November 2024 (UTC) Bumping thread. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 10:39, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
    Discussion
    Is the dragon meant to be identical between the coat of arms and the flag? Just asking, since that coat of arms image that you sent is by far the highest quality version I've been able to find, so I'd like to use it as a reference for both.
    DeVosMax 05:29, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
    @DeVos Max: Yes, I agree that the dragon from the version of the COA in the link should be used as a reference in the update of both files. Thanks for your interest! Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 15:52, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
    I think the dragon shown on this drawing looks very close to the ones on the flag. I will vectorize this drawing from scratch and use it for the files.
    • Feitidede ☆゚.* 20:10, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

      @Snow Lion Fenian I have overwritten both files. I designed the new dragon from scratch based on the image linked above. Let me know if you find any issues.  Done Feitidede ☆゚.* 04:31, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
      eraser Undone: The overwritten versions of the arms and the flags have been restored, as these overwrites, mainly, are conflicting with Commons:Overwriting existing files ; morevoer, the specific design of an element doesn't make the arms or the flag invalid, thus current versions are fully compliant with their description. Ping @Bzh-99 and Jpgibert:
      --Kontributor 2K (talk) 14:05, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
      The current files have clear mistakes in rendering and are even flagged as improper SVGs. The current files also are not compliant with their description because they are missing the colleté d'hermine. The overwritten versions don't appear to vastly differ from the original ones. I can't believe these versions are being gate-kept from being improved. Feitidede ☆゚.* 18:16, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
      @Feitidede: Thank you for your undertaking of this request. Given the apparent dispute over the matter of overwriting the existing files, I would instead propose uploading the correct versions of the flag and arms as completely new files, for which I've provided potential titles above (both of which use the native Breton name of the town to avoid confusion with the existing files).
      Also, and sorry that I didn't make this clearer in the original request, but the corrected version of the COA should actually have the surrounding embellishments along with the shield (namely the yellow crown/castle at the top, the yellow branches on both sides, and the intertwining scroll with the words "WAR EVEZ"), as in the link. Any chance that could be rectified in the new file as well? Sorry again for the hassle. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 01:08, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

      Could somebody please modify the above files representing this flag? This is a detailed design of the coat of arms which should look like this . I also ask for the coat of arms without the white background, sent under the name "Coat of Arms Assembly of the Year XIII (Civil Freedom flag version).svg" Swiãtopôłk (talk) 19:39, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
      Discussion
      There is no need for a better version to be replaced with a worse version. All coat of arms provide a certain degree of artistic freedom to their illustrators. The current version has the same exact elements as the one you referenced. These files do not need improvements. If you really really really want a vector version of this coat of arms it should be uploaded as a different variant.Feitidede ☆゚.* 14:46, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
      @Feitidede: In this case, there is one official version of the annex to the act, which exactly reflects the drawing kept in the museum . Other versions are not used in practice, except for Misplaced Pages. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 19:39, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
      This rendering might not be used in practice, but they are not a wrong way of rendering the coat of arms. In my opinion It would make more sense if real world versions of the flag would start using the better quality version. Feitidede ☆゚.* 01:55, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
      @Feitidede: Definitely not in this case, Misplaced Pages is there to show how it is, not how it should be. Any flag other than the official one, reproducing a specific artifact is simply a strange version of the Argentine coat of arms on a white background.Swiãtopôłk (talk) 14:31, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

      Request
      I would like to get separate illustrations of the two main parts of the system in this article, the transmitter and receiver. The image I've linked to above is the receiver. It is not obvious due to the low quality of the image, but the important part is a series of horizontal metal rods in front of the lower truss work that form the main antenna.

      The only photograph I have found of the transmitter is here. It has even less detail than the image above though. I have also found an old illustration of it, but it is blacklisted so I can only suggest that one goes to https://en . topwar . ru to their page at /199210-britanskie-i-amerikanskie-radiolokatory-perioda-vtoroj-mirovoj-vojny-ispolzovavshiesja-v-sovetskoj-pvo.html.

      @Maury Markowitz Is it an line illustration like this or a more realistic (photo like) one you are looking for. --always ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 16:05, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
      @Goran tek-en: The first reference has the best quality and I think mostly you can use that as a guide.
      An interesting detail that is only visible in this image (not the ones I had seen earlier) is that the antennas have an interesting L shape, which I have not seen before.
      The receiver is much simpler, with more "standard" horizontal elements.
      This page is very useful, excellent find!

      @Goran tek-en: I'm not sure I see much of a difference between the 100% an 200%, but that might be just my end. Of the four here, I think the first one is the best. It's clear but also has details. I don't think the shadows aid the visualization. Maury Markowitz (talk) 19:52, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
      @Maury Markowitz
      As I work in a svg file the uploaded file can be enlarged without loosing any details. So my intention with the 200% files was (as the are png) to show you a bit more details, you can zoom in more on them. --always ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 15:00, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
      @Maury Markowitz
      • I would need your help to understand the parts encircled here. I have found this picture where you can see it a bit better, but are they the same? Are they long-wave transmitters or what? If we know what they are maybe me can find better images.
      • I also find those pages/images
      Are those relevant for us? --always ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 12:14, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
      @Goran tek-en: I am curious about those too!
      The first of the two new URLs you posted solves a mystery!
      The French PDF also has several images of GL systems. Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:07, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

      Hi! I was wondering if someone can kindly please vectorize the flag of the Czech town of Mníšek? The flag has a pattern of four parts bisected in a Nordic Cross manner though without an actual cross. On the top line, a white square on the left and a green rectangle on the right. On the bottom line, a red square on the left and a red white rectangle on the right. In the white square at the top is the emblem from Mníšek's coat of arms containing a yew leaf surrounded by rosary beads. In addition, there is a visual pun in the design, (what is known as "canting arms" in heraldry) where some of the beads in the rosary are replaced with actual roses. The black outline on the flag file posted is not actually part of the flag. I have included several other files that use similar design elements to use as bases so the request can be done more quickly). I'll be grateful to see it done. The modified diagram needs a new name because the diagram is used in 35 wikis in different languages, and the editors of those wikis would need to make corresponding changes to their text before they could use the new diagram.
