Golden Boy is a 6 episode anime series about a 25 year old freelancer named Kintaro Oe. Having left college prematurely, he lives his life as a free spirit, going from job to job while studying his surroundings. Each episode positions Kintaro opposite a female counterpart. These include a corporate businesswoman, gold digging high school student, aggressive mechaphile, demure waitress, strict-mannered swimmer, and an animation cel-painter. Each woman has her own peculiarities and throws the lecherous, but well-meaning Kintaro a new twist to deal with. Thankfully for Kintaro, there is always an opportunity for him to prove himself as a clever, useful, individual. As a result, he wins the leading lady's heart despite his shortcomings.

Popular series gags include Kintaro's bicycle, his frequent ranting of "study study study!", a bizarre toilet fetish, and his comical facial expressions. Shueisha and KSS produced the series for Japan in 1995, released through ADV in North America. The original concept was created by Tatsuya Egawa (who appears in the final episode, along with much of the animation staff), and Kintaro's English voice was provided by Doug Smith, a member of Studio Ironcat.

The series was originally released on 6 video tapes, but has since been compiled into 2 DVDs. The content is for Mature Audiences, due to its sexually involved nature and mature situations. While not a hentai (softcore or hardcore) series, it does feature plenty of cheesecake moments and some fairly vulgar jokes.
