Parapsychology is a discipline that seeks to demonstrate the existence and causes of psychic abilities and life after death using the scientific method. Phenomena studied include extra-sensory perception, psychokinesis, and survival of consciousness after death; parapsychologists call these phenomena psi, a neutral term non-suggestive of what causes the phenomena or experiences. Parapsychology is a pseudoscience because it involves research that does not fit within standard theoretical models accepted by mainstream science. So far, none of the paranormal phenomena studied by parapsychology has been proved to exist.
