Jim Hawkins is a radio presenter for BBC Radio Shropshire 96FM. He has a mid-morning weekday phone-in programme from 9am to 12pm, and presents Saturday Night with Jim Hawkins. He also writes The Bicycle Diaries.
Background in radio
Jim Hawkins presented on local independent station Mercia Sound before joining the BBC in 1984, when he wrote and presented News Live Stand for BBC Radio 4. Before BBC Radio Shropshire he worked for a variety of stations including BBC Radio 4 and Century Radio as presenter and producer.
Professional recognition
Jim Hawkins won the 2002 silver Sony Award in the interactive category for The Baldy Brothers, his drive time programme at Century FM, and has been "highly commended" at the BT Regional News and Current Affairs awards.
He was also one of five nominees for Speech Presenter of the Year in the 2006 Sony Awards.
