  • If I leave a message for you: Please respond on your talk page. I will add it to my watchlist, so you don't need to notify me, unless I don't respond when a response is expected (normally within 24 hours, unless the issue is urgent). This helps keep discussions in one place and makes them easier to read and follow.

  • If you leave a message for me: I will generally respond here. Either add this page to your watchlist or ask me to notify you of a response on your talk page.

  • If you are discussing an article: I would prefer to use that article's talk page, unless you'd rather not to use that page for some reason, such as commenting on a particular user's edits in semi-privacy.

  • I generally do not bother to leave messages on IP talk pages, since many IPs are dynamic, and there's no way to know the difference on the first edits. The user will more than likely never even know they received a message, so it's just a waste of time better spent on actual editing. (This is one example of how not having mandatory registration does a great disservice to IP editors. Because of this, IP editors really ARE second-class users, made so by Jim Wales' own non-negotiable (thus dictatorial) policies.) The main exception is vandalism warnings, which are required before most admins will block or ban for vandalism.

  • Please limit this page to discussions not related to any particular article, those covering a wide range of articles/topics, or personal comments.

  • Note: I reserve the right to decline or withdraw from a situation that is escalating or uncomfortable, without giving a reason, or to take further action through permissable means. (See this policy.) This may include removing your messages from my talk page. If I've done so, please DO NOT re-add the same meassage, or follow-up with another - They will be removed again, mostly likely with a edit summary about your obnoxiousness in continually hounding me. If you then follow this up wth an ANI report, you're proving that you are a real jerk, and I won't respond there either, per WP:DENY. I may, however, file my own ANI report against your harassment.

  • Further notes: Due to the misbehavior of a few IPs, IPs are sometimes prevented from editing this page. If you need to discuss an article, see the previous note. If you need to discuss something else with me, register, and come back in four days. If it's urgent, use the e-mail feature; it won't work if it's been abused lately. If you chose to whine on an admin complaint board somewhere, I'll probably hear about it. And ignore you. ;) PS. if you posted the type of comments on my page that you would post on an admin alert board, they would have been ignored and removed anyway!

  • Also, talk to me like a normal person, and don't just quote Wiki guidelines to me - I'm NOT a newbie (Read WP:DTTR!). I consider it rude, and will likely just delete your comments, and ignore the point, as guidelines can be ignored. If you do it anyway, and turn out to be wrong, an apology would be the considerate thing to make, though you probably won't since it's not policy to apologize for your mistakes. (If Jimbo Wales wanted people to apologize for their mistakes, he'd have made it a policy, right?!)

  • If you want me to take your opinions and edits seriously, you ought to Register!. Otherwise one never knows who really made the edits, especially in the case of dynamic IP addresses.

  • If I mistakenly called your edits as vandalism when I reverted them, it was probably because you did not leave an edit summary. Please realize that, in many cases, unexplained edits are indistinguishable from vandalism! This also applies to Rollbacks.

  • I reserve the right to clean up this page in any manner I chose, including the use of Rollbacks for non-vandalism, and especially if you made more than one edit. Please do NOT re-post what I've removed, unless you are an admin issuing a formal warning, though I'll probably still remove it!

  • If you wish to keep a matter confidential, such as discussing personal and/or confidential information, you may use the "E-mail" feature (usually activated!). I will respond in kind unless otherwise requested. This is not for discussing routine matters regarding editing on pages - use the article talk pages for that.

talkback

Hello, Dave1185. You have new messages at Seb az86556's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

So I took a closer look at it. The concerns raised at that MFD you mentioned don't really apply. That IP had a number of obnoxious warnings and "rules" posted and didn't want to communicate with anyone outside those "rules". I'd say leave it for now, but I have the page on my watchlist now. Singapore

About this, there was a request on the talk page to include a coordinate. So, how is it supposed to be done, the location of the template? User:Zscout370 17:02, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

  • Take a look again at other country's article and ask yourself if indeed it is needed, note also the geo-coordinates of Singapore City's Downtown Core on the article page itself. --Dave1185 23:34, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

My talk page

Thank you for the WP:CIVIL note you left for another editor as a result of inappropriate comments he left on my talk page. There have been others recently and I have asked User:MilborneOne at User_talk:MilborneOne#WP:CIVIL to assess these. - Ahunt (talk) 12:27, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Stack magazine

It may not be notable, but it has context and makes sense. Prod if need be. Bearian (talk) 04:25, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

I believe the user does not fully understand the copyright issues. I left a note at his talk. Let's see. No rush here - this is not damaging the mainframe. ~Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 09:20, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Stack

For a large claimed readership, it would seem that the supporting sources are kind of thin. But I wonder, what is the approximate minimum readership needed for a magazine to be considered "notable"? Or is the issue primarily a lack of sourcing? ←Baseball Bugs carrots06:43, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Regarding your note on the wet trout award on my talk page

Actually, I prefer roti prata to chapati to whack myself on, besides the trout.  Merlion  444  06:13, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

India not "simple"!

Re: your comment here: Nothing relate to India is ever simple! Thius made even more complicated by the fact that so many Indian editors don't feel the need to follow WP guidelines. Much fun! - BilCat (talk) 19:03, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

  • IF you know how to press their button, it is quite fun actually. IMO, they are no different from the Pakis, you just have to voice out to them in a sensible and honest manner to reason with them but don't go hurting their ego, their pride is sky high due to an extremely rigid Patriarch social hierarchy where male ego and chauvinism plays a very important role (no different from Pakistan). For those of them who are not familiar with WP, I guess we just have to stand our ground and we should be fine. No worries~! --Dave 19:28, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, the Indians and the Pakistanis are like two old brothers who never got along. They are so alike in many ways, but they can't see that because of their sibling rivalry. The Indians especially like to rail agaisnt "Western" bias, but their own biases are worse, IMO, and again they can't see it. But don't get me wrong, I love Indian people and culture, and often watch Bollywood movies. I've even been in love with an Indian girl. The "All _____ are equal, but some ______ are more equal than others" philosophy underlies many of their views, so one has to be aware of that, and not be fooled by their openess to all views. They have their absolute beliefs just like the rest of us humans! I once saw something, probably added to the Tejas article, that the Tejas was the first in the world to be produced solely by a governemt-owned industry. Of course that left out Soviet industries, but anyway, is it any wonder that the Tejas has been in development for over 25 years, and is still not in production?? "Government is best which governs least" is my philosophy! - BilCat (talk) 20:20, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Don't even think about going on an India defense forum and ask about the 1857 Mutiny (ie or 1st War of Independence to some). No way they can discuss it rationally. They were going to have an anniversary parade in New Delhi celebrating the "heroes" of the 1857 Mutiny/War of Independence. Caused a huge rift in the Indian Army. Some officers in the Indian Army had served the British Raj and saw those in the Mutiny as having no honor and the other half saw them as loyalists who should be honored. The Indian government eventually ordered the parade canceled and also any discussion of what happened in 1857 between officers as a court martial offense. And remember our civil war started three years later and lasted far longer. But, as bad as discussing issues with the ancestors of the former British Raj is, they don't come close to any discussion on the Balkans. There is one very well known webpage for military photos, that has banned ANY postings on Balkans (ie especially former Yugoslavia). Main reason was the cyper attacks against their site and their servers. Makes vandalism on Misplaced Pages look mild in comparison. If one day it was announced that the powers that be at WP ordered all articles on the Balkans deleted, it would not surprise me a bit. Not an iota. --Jackehammond (talk) 04:57, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

What's Bengali for "hornet's nest"?!

Me thinks we stuck a raw nerve with our comments above on a certain sub-continent! Very strange. - BilCat (talk) 00:51, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

  • Well, I did told you I knew how to press them buttons? It was a matter of time before they came, they always do because they are so predictable. But as fast as they appear, they're gone. This fact, however, correspond with a joke I heard years ago about Indian labourers and beauty queens and I stand to be corrected. --Dave 01:09, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Welcome Back!

Btw, you never did respond about the Pakistani aircrafts thing you posted on my page. - BilCat (talk) 06:36, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

  • Three kids and a bossy missus are a handful whenever a man steps out from his castle, let alone spending a two week vacation with them somewhere down in New Zealand. Anyhoo... by Pakistani aircraft(Milborne is going to get you for using plural again on aircraft!), did you meant the Il-78 tanker that the PakAF got recently? If so, the joke was on them news editor and readers, why do need you an air-refilling aircraft when they are already in the middle of the sky? That would be a sight, imagine huge made-in-russia but pak-manned mechanical contraptions flapping their wings for dear life just to get their air refilled... strange how some egoistic publications and their like minded staff behave when it comes to such article. Goes to prove that much more proof reading and copyediting is required before they set it out for the whole world to see (and laugh at their grammar/vocabulary...), eh? --Dave 08:05, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Ah, gotcha! Well, it does explaine while the users from certain sub-continent have such trouble writing in Commonwealth/American Standard English here on WP. I was surpried the got got the plural of "aircraft" correct though! - BilCat (talk) 08:26, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Buff/BUFF

Dave, I've reverted your move of Buff, and opened a discussion at Talk:Buff#Recent page move. To be honest, I don't understand your reasoning at all. I reverted it because I think is the clear title for the DAB page, and meant no disrespect by it. If I agree with your reasoning, or if the consesnus is with you, I'll move the page back to BUFF (disambiguation) myself, just to show there are no hard feelings. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 06:31, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Btw, an admin has moved it back to Buff. - BilCat (talk) 00:45, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Shame (what shame~?)

What shame that the shame-meister got blocked, has evaded said block, and been blocked again. Shame on him for his shameful behavior! (I'm just trying to see if this "shame" stuff works in reverse.) ;) - BilCat (talk) 00:45, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

I've got hounds ] - got any foxes? - BilCat (talk) 01:03, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
We've both posted on his page, but Nick is either in his sleep period, or otherwise unavailable. I've also posted at WP:AIR, so we'll see what happens. - BilCat (talk) 01:14, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
  • No worries, it will turn out fine. Just as the shamer became the shamee, eh? Kinda reminds me of what my wife says... "Whatever you give a woman, she will make it greater. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll make you a meal. If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So, if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of shit." Oh well, it's back to hell hole for me now... can't let the A380 stay AOG too long or my boss is going to kill me. Turnaround time is the keyword these days. --Dave 05:12, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Good advice. Enjoy your whale-sitting!. - BilCat (talk) 22:12, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Shaming Pillar

Re: your edit at Shaming Pillar, anyone can remove a PROD tag, even the article creator. Additionally, once the tag has been removed, it cannot be readded, it can only be sent to AfD. The whole point of PROD is to bypass AfD for what would be uncontroversial deletions. Thanks! (X! · talk)  · @584  ·  13:01, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Shaming pillar

Dave, you requested speedy deletion, not AfD. The admin who turned it down suggested you take it to AfD, but you didn't, you chose prod, the prod was contested (as users have a right to do) and I've now listed it at AfD. --Dweller (talk) 14:23, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
