== {{cl|French film stubs}} splits ==

Greetings! I see you have recently created one or more new stub templates or categories. As it states at ], at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Misplaced Pages, it is recommended that new stub types be proposed prior to creation at ]. This helps to reach consensus about whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at ], where comments are welcome as to any rationale for this stub type. Please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first at ]! ] (]) 13:37, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

I see you have reverted my edit to the subsection of Tiger Wood's personal life. If it is not a trivia section then what exactly is it other than other? A section titled other would seem to be an open dumping ground for anyone with a Tiger ref. So why not be honest and call it trivia. == Import ==

For articles like ] the cleanest way to do it is to get an admin to use ] to import the article, complete with attribution tail into enwiki, usually in a backwater namespace like Mediawiki talk, then move it into article space or userspace for translation. I'd be willing to do some for you (a limited number - I can't keep up with your edit rate). It's best for articles that have some history and content, I wouldn't bother with importing stubs. '''<font face="Arial">] <small>]</small></font>''' 18:40, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Good to know that my blood, sweat and tears are deeply appreciated. They ''do'' have content, the most important officials of that period. History and text can be added in due course...The reason why we have such gaping holes in the encyclopedia as this is precisely because people "wouldn't bother". Not good enough. ♦ ] 18:49, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

:Don't be testy, I didn't put it well - I wouldn't bother to go through "import" for articles with a couple of revisions, but for articles with a few dozen edits and several paragraphs, it's really quite easy, and credits those nice Italians who labored on the articles. See what ]'s history looks like now. '''<font face="Arial">] <small>]</small></font>''' 18:55, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, "transferred from Italian wiki" is usually OK.. Feel free to do the remaining 6 legislatures.♦ ] 19:02, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
::Will do. I've imported rather a lot from frwiki, since I read French reasonably well, and I've filled in a number of the gaping holes nobody cared about, but which matter to me. I've found some quite substantial articles that have gone begging on enwiki that way. However, I personally have just gone ahead and written from scratch when it's just a stub, since there's nothing that needs attribution in such a case. I think Graham87 and I are the leading importers, Graham leads by a mile. Seriously, if you see something that you think ought to be imported, rather than just attributed, let me know. '''<font face="Arial">] <small>]</small></font>''' 19:04, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey I started ] for this purpose!! There is massive amounts of material which should be transwikied from other wikipedias but very few are consistently doing so I'm afraid. We certainly do need some form of bot to do it smoothly but that is unlikely to go without serious disapproval. Thanks for your help.♦ ] 19:10, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
:I'd missed that. Importing's limited to fr, de, es, it, pl, nost and meta, but there's plenty there to do. I doubt that a bot will be possible, but I'll add my name to the list and will do what I can. '''<font face="Arial">] <small>]</small></font>''' 19:20, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Glad to have you on board. ] is the project, (correction). We did start planning a bot to generate content like this and to increase the coordination between wikipedias but without any sort of system it is just left to vain attempts of individuals myself to occaisonally struggle to transfer things and not managing to do it regularly because its so stressful and demanding to do so manually.... !! If you would be interested in some sort of scheme to import content from other wikis let me know. A bot maybe..♦ ] 19:23, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

:For what it's worth, I had a DYK today with an imported and translated article, ]. I discovered that we already have articles on ], ], ] and ] after I imported their Italian equivalents. I deleted them, since the existing articles don't depend on them. == Antarctica articles ==
Hi. I have noticed that you have been creating articles on features of Antarctica mainly using USGS GNIS for the source. Earlier this year, I began merging many of the small articles, especially on mountains and peaks into the respective range page. It is highly unlikely that most of these small articles will be updated anytime soon with more information and most get tagged with various maintenance templates such as the "no or few articles link to this page". So it makes sense to simply merge the small articles on the mountains of a range into the respective range page. You can see examples of the merges at ], ] and ]. A redirect is put in place for the merged from articles. See ] especially on "Named geographic features" which I think applies to a lot of the articles based solely on GNIS. While that page is not an official policy, I do think that a lot of the mountains and peaks can simply be redirected to the respective range and that page contain the GNIS info on the mountain/peak. ] (]) 06:53, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

I have no objections to merging, in fact I would strongly support this for many articles. However the text needs to be written into wikipedia first somewhere. Merging can be done later.♦ ] 21:05, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

== Can a talk page section heading be a possible libel of a BLP? ==

88

Shouldn't it be mentioned that she isn't a witch? Robert Berkshire (talk) 20:12, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Political campaigns, General election, 2nd paragraph. Tarc (talk) 21:08, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Why is this section titled "88" it would seem to have no relevancy to the editor's concern. The number 88 is however neo-Nazi code talk and perhaps is libel of a BLP even if it's on the talk page. Eighty-eight is used as code among Neo-Nazis to identify each other --Wlmg (talk) 17:23, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

==Russian translations==
I actually have his contributions on my to-(re-)do list since March of this year; I just never had a chance to look them over. Thanks for the reminder! I do, however, disagree that such edits are welcome and/or useful&mdash;if our readers want a broken machine translation, they can feed the article from ru_wiki to google translate (or any other translation engine of their choice) all on their own. Dumping such translations into our article space is like dumping waste in a bustling downtown in hopes that folks there might find something that's useful! If these machine translations were of a resource that's not easily available online, it would have been a different matter, but since they are just ru_wiki translations, I don't really see the benefit (although the users' intentions are, of course, in good faith). I did not spot the National Parks template or would have used and extended it. I think ] works though. It will not get that large. There are still several missing articles, which I may start after cleaning up the stubs. This is a general subject that seems important to me, and has plenty of good sources. For example, a search on limited to '''''books with preview and full view''''' gives all sorts of results. It is easy to cobble together a starter article. And then the results are a bit depressing. ] looks good, but the photo in ] is spectacular! I also much prefer the relief map for these articles. But the pushpin is hard to see. There must be a way to define pushpin shape and color. To be picky, I am sensitive to the fact that 10% of males are color-blind. Ideally, a pushpin would be a symbol in white with a black border, or vice-versa, depending on how dark the background is. I can't see why Béla Bartók would be an unusual choice for the film music. Argentina is a sophisticated place with a very European outlook, not just Spanish but Italian, German, etc. Even Welsh. They say that in the world of fashion, most innovations start in Buenos Aires, move to Europe a year later, and finally make it to North America a year or two after that. ==Antarctic stubs==
Can I suggest a few changes to your standard format for the Antarctic articles you're creating?
*The {{tl|coor}} template has been replaced by {{tl|coord}} (and I suggest display=title, inline is appropriate).
*The {{tl|convert}} template is worth using for units.
*I think it's worth stating explicitly that the sites are in Antarctica (for those not familiar with the more detailed regions of Antarctica).
*DI (for ]) wasn't a familiar abbreviation to me, so I expanded and wikilinked it (likewise mention of the ] as "Discovery") at ].
*] recommends italicising the names of ships.
*I turned your "mapped by" and "named by" details into full sentences.
See and for examples of the sort of changes I've made. I may continue editing some of these but you're a long way ahead of me — and apologies if I'm teaching a grandmother to suck eggs. ] (]) 17:11, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi. During the drive I won't be doing any formatting. The most important thing is that we get these articles started. Next stage then people can run AWB to make these sorts of minor edits, which are minor edits, which ever way you put it. Then the next stage in my view should be to merge all of the stubs related to one area into a single article if they can't be expanded. It would be different if I was actually writing the text myself but trust me it is much more efficient to do it this way and then run a bot/AWB to make these formatting changes later. ♦ ] 17:17, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
:Fair enough; I'll stop editing them. But if you're creating them by some sort of mechanised process (excuse my ignorance) then it might at least be worth using the newer coord template. Must learn how to use AWB. ] (]) 17:52, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
::Yep, the text is already written,, its a paste job. It would genuinely be unfeasible to spent the time amending each one as the vast majority require exactly the same reformatting, to replace Named for with It is named after or to add Antarctica on the end of the opening sentences. Nautrally I agree with your reocmmendations most of which are minor issues I am fully aware of; that can be done much more efficiently later by an AWBer or a bot who could do the entire lot by ransacking a category within an hour I'd say. To my knowledge you can program say ] and use AWB to add say , Antarctica at the end of every first sentence. If you are doing these sort of repetitive clean up edits it is almost a compulsory tool. Ask ] about it who is the most prolific user of it. As I see there are no ''serious'' issues which would prevent them from being created especially as at a later date they will be sorted and many most likely merged into articles on a given area and made more comprehensive with other sources.. As I say it would be different if I was actually writing the texts but they aren't mine, its PD material already written...18:01, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Starting to think I am being stalked! :~) No problem whatsoever - collaboration is great. If I come across some, I will add them in. I seem to be on a roll doing Burmese artists. I suppose the concern is reuse for commercial purposes. Ok, prima! (Btw, did you invent the term "stubbing" or does it precede you?) Yes, following the 59 barrios as shown on the template, some of them will have to be redirected. Itwill not always be easy to decide which to let in mainspace and which to redirect. The way it is, there are composite barrio names containing two or more formerly separate barrios. For example "Capurro and Bella Vista" is one barrio with a composite name, including two areas with different stories and outlook. Neither can claim alone to be one of the 59, so we will have to chose between messing with the leads or move to a composite name (which doesn't sound good} or something. Now that an evil organization has cast the dice, we will have to find a way. Back to history translation now. ] <small>]</small> 19:03, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

== General comments about city articles ==

Hi Blofeld, I don't want to wade into whatever dispute you're having with Pal-whatever, but I generally agree that city articles don't need to include detailed descriptions of all landmarks. (This applies to Montevideo too.) Maybe these would be best put into a subarticle (e.g. ] or something like that)? ] (]) 18:55, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Jen, ''really'' this is not a good time to comment on this. ] is taking shape nicely and discusses parts of the city which ''are'' certainly notable like the Old Town, the three main parks and museums. It certainly does not discuss every building. IN fact I've condensed 50kb this afternoon of cutting down on what doesn't need detailed info. A summarised description of the MAJOR landmarks in perfectly appropriate, and I happen to disagree with you. Landmarks are what constitute a city and in my view should be the biggest part of an article. The info on the Old Town and park, even cemeteries are essential to the history and understanding of the city. If you want to condense it further be my guest, it is still in the middle of writing..♦ ] 19:04, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, landmarks are fine as long as we create some balanced proportion for ALL the things that need to be mentioned in a city/capital. At this stage it's really hard to see the whole picture, but we are moving fast enough to where this will become visible soon. We don't have to make it perfect yet, but before we transfer it from Project to Main space there has to be some proportioning done. Then if we go for a GA, we can have it reviewed and we can take it from there. Keep in mind that IF we had enough material on all main topics we could easily make it x5. But we only have SOME parts available. I care for the overall quality and I intend do some relative resizing where needed before or after we hit mainspace. Right now I am very greatful for all this wealth of info that's coming in. I am sure all sides will be pleased with the final result. 48 hours for an evil organization! That's preposterous! Consider all the good things that might happen to world meanwhile. ] <small>]</small> 22:20, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Yes. I noticed the warning, took a quick look, thought "this is daft" and added a few sources. Much more could be added. Check the editor's history. POV or POV? ] (]) 20:42, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
*I thought the same, and wonder which ministry and what the job title is. Funny, just as I'm develop one of Sarek's very stubs. Such is wikipedia.... Its far more beneficial of course that I am blocked for two entire days when I am in the middle of writing this. Perhaps somebody with some sanity could add the following to the article, or maybe you will take my comments with a pinch of salt and accept good humor.... Is it more beneficial to wikipedia that you stop playing policemen and allow me to expand this stub???? From what I gather the "establishment" are a bunch of emotionless robots who do not understand that editors have emotions when their work is attacked and that they do not appreciate people intruding in their affairs with pointy moral fingers eons after something has happened (or that they run wikipedia with self-made rules or do not have the slightest sense of humor). Fine play sheriff. We are an ]!!!!! The sooner you people just cut the crap and get on with writing wikipedia the encyclopedia and hang up your sheriff badges the better.

The odd thing about this is that I actually genuinely requested Sarek of Vulcan to write an article with me. Seriously. Shortly after I did so Sheriff hounded me with another unnecessary "pointy finger" and I told him to hang up his badge after he asked why my comment was constructive. He asked me a question... So this is now a blockable offence from developing wikipedia as a resource. In all honesty I had no intention in going back to "harrass" him and only planned on visiting his talk page again once I had completed my orchestra inputs and inviting him to work with me not against me. 22:07, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

{{unblock reviewed | 1=Seriously, actions like this may have more damaging effects on the encyclopedia than you might imagine. It started with hard work I had put into an article being deleted and somebody with no editing experience turining my work into a one liner and then insulting me. I log in this morning furious and react angrily. I later apologise for what I said and expressed why I had reacted to which there appears to be considerable understand at what happened at ANI. As if that wasn't enough (when I had moved on) I then get Sarek and later the sheriff turning up at my talk page getting preachy. What is the point? I then explain to Sarek why his point was unnecessary and that he only turns up at negative situations. Then sheriff adds further fuel to the fire and I light heartedly make some banter about him being a sheriff and being a policeman on here amidst seirously trying to expand an article Sarek had created which I genuinely wanted to collaborate on and show him that I'm not all that bad and that we could do something constrictive together. You deprived me not only of that but the chance to add a full length article I've been working on days to be finished and added to the Montevideo article. I told you that blocking me will never work, yet you somehow think this helps wikipedia... Between you and me this nonsense needs to stop and people need to stop pointing moral fingers and work together on articles instead. The ridiculous ting is that in the end I've been blocked for somebody removing hard worked content which I had contributed to your project. Please see things in persepctive. I see nothing on Sarek's talk page which is blockable and I had no intention of returning untill I had completed my inputs to the Rhode Island rchestra article. It was very strange to be about the save work I had added and see a view source and prevented form doing so. Seirously the sooner you guys stop playing cops and getting preachy over EVERY entire comment ever made, especially in a moment of obvious difficulty and just let people edit without hassle the better. The ironic thing also is that it is Sarek's hassling of me with his comment that has led to this. If you had gotten on writing articles like me none of this would have happened. How is this block going to help what matters? Because this sort of thing will happen again and again in the future unless people stop working against and start working ''with'' me. My content is far more valuable then anything I've ever said on here and the sooner you expect that I'm human and will occaiosnally react strongly to attacks on work I've spent time on the better. I will be logging out shortly, please somebody make some sense of this from a human persective.... Its funny how I contribute a massive amount to wikipedia which few of you could obviously care less about but the moment I say a single thing slighted heated you can't wait to bloack me and treat me like dirt. ♦ ♦ ] 22:32, 18 November 2010 (UTC) | decline= is not acceptable. ::: Blocking admin's comment (similar to the e-mail reply I gave to DrB when he e-mailed me). The "threat" to punch somone deserved a warning. Sarek gave it to you- ''just a warning''. To then browbeat Sarek over that very valid warning, that then ventured into ] territory was inappropriate. Since your first (and second) blocks for NPA were each 24hrs, this one has followed the principle of escalating blocks - and is up to 48.
