Tim Smith (born 16 February 1961 in Swindon) is an English broadcaster and radio personality in the U.K. He started out on university radio whilst studying in York. In 1984 he worked for several stations including BBC Radio York and BBC Radio Shropshire. In April 1989, after a short stint with BBC Radio WM, Tim went onto present the weekend early show from 5-7am on BBC Radio 1, where he remained until September 1990. He also presented the 29 June 1989 episode of Top of the Pops alongside Anthea Turner.
From then on, he went on to present the weekday afternoon show on BBC GLR, The GLR Picture Show & also presented a phone in pop quiz on the old BBC Radio 5, entitled Popcall, which he did for three years. He also presented the UK Top 20 Chart Show on the BBC World Service for nearly 14 years from October 1989.
In the mid 1990s, Tim presented programmes for Magic 105.4 & the breakfast show on London's Jazz FM. He joined BBC Radio 2 in 1999 as a co-presenter on Steve Wright in the Afternoon.
Tim can also be heard regularly on BBC Radio 2 sitting-in for the likes of Alex Lester and Janice Long.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, reading, the cinema, the theatre, live music and eating out!
