This page is a chronology of events in year 2002 directly related to Misplaced Pages and Wikipedians, both within Misplaced Pages and in the whole wide world. Misplaced Pages events and events in sister projects (Wiktionary, Wikibooks, etc.) are listed as long as they are related to Misplaced Pages.
Additions to this page must follow certain rules, because it is hoped that in 50 years or so this page will become a valuable source of scholar research.

- February 2002, most participants of the Spanish Misplaced Pages broke away to establish the Enciclopedia Libre.
- March 1, Larry Sanger resigned from Misplaced Pages
- August 2002, the URL of Misplaced Pages was changed from wikipedia.com to wikipedia.org after Jimbo Wales announced that he would never run commercial advertisements on Misplaced Pages.
- September 2002, Finnish Misplaced Pages reaches 1000 articles
- October 2002, Derek Ramsey ("Ram-Man") started to use a bot to add tens thousands of articles about United States towns by data taken directly form 2000 United States Census, see, e.g., Garrison, North Dakota, drastically increasing the size of Misplaced Pages
