The Kanjiža town has a population of 10,193, while the Kanjiža municipality has 27,440 inhabitants. The territory of the municipality is shaped by the river Tisa and the Novi Kneževac Municipality and the river Tisa on the east, the Municipality of Senta on the south, the Municipality of Subotica on the west and the border with Hungary on the north. The population of the Kanjiža municipality is composed of:

  • Hungarians = 23,802 (forming the absolute majority of 86.52%)
  • Serbs = 2,037 (7.4%)
  • Roma = 530 (1.92%)
  • Others.

Most of local communities have Hungarian majorities except Velebit, which is predominantly Serb.
