== name change? ==

Consider removing the "account" part in your signature. Having a secret account may be sockpuppetry and, therefore, usually not permitted. If your name is "secret", just leave it at that.

Analogies always are imperfect but consider this. What if your user name "I Like". Ok. But adding a signature line "I Like _ to kill and torture" would be wrong even if the user name is ok.

I have written to you in case you haven't thought of it. Have a nice day! ] (]) 16:13, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Secret, it looks like this is about to be failed since you haven't returned to address the issues as promised. You might still have time if you do so right away. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:01, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Larry Centers

The article Larry Centers you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Larry Centers for reasons why the nomination failed. Helen Keller Day

Hi! I've noticed that on 3 July 2014 you deleted a page "Helen Keller Day" as WP:G5 (creation by blocked user) . I've also noticed that the WP:G5 policy says that pages may be deleted if they are created by "blocked users in violation of their ban or block, and which have no substantial edits by others". Now, this article was about an obviously notable topic (a US federal holiday), and it was created on or before 16 May 2013 . Now, I'm wandering how is it possible that an article on such a notable topic was posted for more than a year, and it did not have any substantial edits by others except the original creator? I don't say that it's impossible, but I'd like to check that out. If I'm wrong, please excuse me, and do not take this as a criticism of your work. Vanjagenije (talk) 22:47, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

RfA

Hi. I'm sorry to have lost your support vote. I wonder if you might expand on what I was "flip-floppy" about in my responses. AFAIK, there was just the one question where I gave an off-the-cuff answer that turned out to be wrong. When I found that out, I admitted that I shouldn't have answered and that I was wrong.

If you could tell me which answers were shocking and made you think I was clueless (something I don't get called much), perhaps I can clarify or learn something. Here would be best – I've barred myself from any further rebuttal-level postings at the RfA since they are now automatically being viewed in the wrong light. —— 08:24, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

I'd like to clarify that you shouldn't feel obligated to answer, and I understand if you don't. I'm sincerely not trying to pick fights or stir up trouble. Despite the way my rebuttals are being viewed, I do want to know when I'm wrong (or misunderstood to be). —— 21:43, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

County Theater Page

Hello,

I would like you to un-delete the County Theater page that I created earlier today. As I explained in the Talk section (also now deleted) and the "contest deletion" sectiohn, I represent the organization that runs the County, which is also the copyright holder for the information used in the page. I am happy to jump through the crazy hoops set up by Misplaced Pages (including "donation" of the copyright, which I have already e-mailed to the permissions@wikimedia e-mail address), but I cannot do so with a deleted page.

Thank you, Allison Tyra RenewTheaters (talk) 17:24, 27 August 2014 (UTC)RenewTheaters

Once I get a OTRS ticket number showing the permission to use the text, I might be able to restore the article. But there is several issues, especially conflict of interest, and your username which represents the group and needs to be changed. Please read that guideline. Secret 17:28, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Given that I was only posting verifiable facts (not opinions) from a respected organization, I do not see how a reasonable person could claim conflict of interest. Part of my job is to make sure that information about the theater is easily accessible via the Internet - it is odd that a popular, 76-year-old historic community landmark does not already have a page. WikiCup 2014 August newsletter

The final of the 2014 WikiCup begins in a few short minutes! Our eight finalists are listed below, along with their placement in Round 4:

  1. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer, finished top of Pool A and was the round's highest scorer. Godot is a featured picture specialist, claiming large numbers of points due to high-quality scans of historical documents, especially banknotes.
  2. Scotland Casliber (submissions) is a WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist every year since 2010. In the semi-final, he was Pool B's highest scorer. Cas's points primarily come from articles on the natural sciences.
  3. Nepal Czar (submissions) was Pool A's runner-up. Czar's points come mostly from content related to independent video games, including both articles and topics.
  4. Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Pool B's runner-up. Another featured picture specialist, many of Adam's points come from the restoration of historical media. He has been a WikiCup finalist twice before.
  5. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) won the WikiCup in 2012 and 2013, and enters this final as the first wildcard. She focuses on biology-related articles, and has worked on several high-importance articles.
  6. Florida 12george1 (submissions) is the second wildcard. George's points come primarily from meteorology-related articles. This year and last year, George was the first person in the competition to score.
  7. Colorado Sturmvogel 66 (submissions), the third wildcard, was the 2010 champion and a finalist last year. His writes mostly on military history, especially naval history.
  8. Canada Bloom6132 (submissions), the fourth and final wildcard, has participated in previous WikiCups, but not reached any finals. Bloom's points are mostly thanks to did you knows, featured lists and good articles related to sport and national symbols.

We say goodbye to this year's semi-finalists. Herm Matty.007 (submissions), Ohio ThaddeusB (submissions), United States WikiRedactor (submissions), Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions), Greece Yellow Evan (submissions), Portugal Prism (submissions) and Bartošovice v Orlických horách Cloudz679 (submissions) have all performed well to reach this stage of the competition, and we hope they will all be joining us again next year.

There are two upcoming competitions unrelated to the WikiCup which may be of interest to those who receive this newsletter. The Stub Contest will run through September, and revolves around expanding stub articles, especially high-importance or old stubs. In addition, a proposal has been made for a new competition, the GA Cup, which the organisers plan to run next year. This competition is based on the WikiCup and aims to reduce the good article review backlog.

There is now a thread for brainstorming on how next year's WikiCup competition should work. Please come along and share your thoughts- What works? What doesn't work? What needs changing? Signups for next year's competition will be open soon; we will be in touch. If, at this stage of the competition, you are keen to help the with the WikiCup, please do what you can to participate in review processes. Our finalists will find things much easier if the backlogs at good article candidates, featured article candidates, featured picture candidates and the rest are kept at a minimum. As ever, questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Harold Terry article

It is unclear where I should place this message. I submitted it on your user page, and "Dustin V.S." deleted it.

Re Harold Terry article, you are mistaken about the Bill Keith book, saying it is self-published. It is published by Pelican Publishing Company of Gretna: https://en.wikipedia.org/Pelican_Publishing_Company; the Terry article has many sources that were ignored by the reviewers, and the final copy was completed only in the two days. Too harsh?

Don't you think that banning DirectKnowledge Indefinitely is too harsh? Yes, they wrote an article which I tagged for deletion as Spam (and was deleted as such), but that's all they've done and there's no indication (yet at least) that they are a 'repeat offender'. Does that warrant a block at all, let alone a permanent one? Wittylama 20:28, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

I don't block spammers right away for one offense unless the spam is so blatant that they are extremely unlikely to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. Reading his comments in the AFD and the article, its clear he's only here for self-promotion thus the block. Secret 03:04, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm not restoring the page, the article was deleted without a keep rationale and three delete rationales, so there was consensus. Your protecting Oscar Taveras page

Try performing a modicum of research before you kneejerk lock a page and revert "vandalism." His agent confirmed his death before any of the edits were made to the page, and it's a sign of incompetence when you lock a page one minute and say "ESPN confirmed the death" the next minute. The number of (personal attack removed) who'd rather revert an edit than spend 5 seconds searching for the info themselves is absurd. 2001:558:6027:7F:5424:D5BB:EDC2:E135 (talk) 11:05, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

What's in the latest edition of WikiProject Baseball's newsletter:

WikiCup 2014: The results

The 2014 WikiCup champion is Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), who flew the flag of the Smithsonian Institution. This was Godot13's first WikiCup competition and, over the 10 months of the competition, he has produced (among other contributions) two featured lists and an incredible 292 featured pictures, including architectural photographs and scans of historical documents. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), 2012 and 2013 WikiCup champion, came in second, having written a large number of biology-related articles. Scotland Casliber (submissions), WikiCup finalist every year since 2010, finished in third.

A full list of our prize-winners follows:

Congratulations to everyone who has been successful in this year's WikiCup, whether you made it to the final rounds or not, and a particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup who have participated this year. We warmly invite all of you to sign up for next year's competition. Discussions and polls concerning potential rules changes are also open, and all are welcome to participate. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2014 competition. Ian Thomson

Hi. I'd like you to consider nominating Ian.thomson for adminship. My nomination wouldn't be of any help to Ian but your word carries weight here. He's not opposed to being nominated but won't seek it himself. TParis raised the issue with him a year ago. I've been watching Ian coolly deal with the vandals and crazies that haunt Misplaced Pages, like an admin would. Perhaps he ought to have a free t-shirt and teh bits to cut out the middle-man.

Since February 2012 he's voted with the ultimate consensus 17 of 19 times at AfD/MfD. He's created 12 articles, only ten of which survive. He was blocked once in 2011. I'll defer to your expert judgement on his readiness. Chris Troutman (talk) 16:09, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Candidacy

I think you meant "reluctant" to run not "redundant" to run. John Carter (talk) 19:51, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Possibly both! But kudos for running (to all candidates). All the best: Rich Farmbrough23:03, 16 November 2014 (UTC).
I was going to leave it at that, since I didn't want to repeat what I said at AGK's talk page. But since he has blanked my comment, a typical AGK move, I will say that in my opinion you should not bother too much about what one, perhaps rather acerbic, editor thinks of your judgement. All the best: Rich Farmbrough23:47, 16 November 2014 (UTC).
I'm not gonna bother with AGK and is a dick move. Secret 23:57, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

I was reporting a bug in the software, for which you blocked me

I reject your apology. You need to read WP:BITE. It is impossible to read that ANI discussion and come to the conclusion that I needed to be blocked. I was trying to report a bug in the software (and that bug report has been gratefully received) and noticed that the IP I was using was blocked for a long time and with account creation blocked. So I asked for advice about those blocks. Notice that I did not use the name of the blocking admin; notice that I did not claim the admin was abusin their tools; notice that I did not drag it out when I was told that the blocks were correct (but the wrong type of block). Thus I created two valid bug-reports that helped the project. You? You incorrectly blocked a good faith editor and you still think your oock was merely a minor error and that I did something that deserved blocking. Your non-apology is worse than nothing. It would be much better if you had not bothered apologising. (Finally no-one has explained how the first blocking admin had no way for me to leave a message on their talk page) Gustavail (talk) 10:23, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

    • Thanks, it was tough to withdraw, despite a sub-optimal candidate field. I wasn't worried about AGK comments, (it was health biased) but I fucked up by blocking a new editor because I was stressed out at work and didn't read the circumstances properly. I realized I still can't separate my personal life and health with Misplaced Pages and I wouldn't elect myself to that position. Dennis or Worm, I hope you guys decide to run as this field is the weakest I have ever seen and I'm worried we wouldn't get enough seats to fill the position. I'll probably take a job as an ArbCom clerk and participate more in OTRS instead. Thanks Secret 17:01, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
A clerk could definitely be used, considering one of the active clerks is running now. Health and other factors can be a real bitch, but I hope that if you do some clerking you find that you are probably still a better candidate than many of those who haven't withdrawn. Can you also delete Jacob Brigham?--Yankees10 17:51, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

You forgot to sign this

There is no indication of who wrote this without going into the history. I see you said you are not done so perhaps you did it on purpose. Just wanted to make sure you knew. Chillum 22:40, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

@Chillum: I did it on purpose, I plan to finish the RFA tonight. I did a quick work write-up. Secret 22:41, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Good to know. The candidate looks promising and I look forward to participating. Chillum 22:43, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Summary deletion of List of chronologies of works of fiction

@Secret: Hi Administrator, may I please ask you to reconsider and have List of chronologies of works of fiction undeleted? This page was to be the main page of my category which I have proposed to rename Chronologies of works of fiction. Are you advocating that Misplaced Pages should not have a page (and a category) that groups together articles concerning timelines of artistic works of fiction ? May I please further invite you to view not only the discussion on the proposed deletion of Category:Chronology of Fictional Works (https://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2014_November_25#Category:Chronology_of_Fictional_Works), but also the very IMPORTANT prior discussion concerning the proposal to rename Category:Fictional timelines to Category:Chronology of Fictional Works (https://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2014_November_21), which should clarify why this new category (and page) is sorely needed on Misplaced Pages, so as to DIFFERENTIATE between in-world fictional timelines, and between timelines of artistic works of fiction. Joe Gatt (talk) 21:45, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm not restoring, it was a list of random links which had nothing to do with each other and qualified for speedy deletion as A1/A3, no content/explanation for the use of this list. I can't understand your explanation and it seems like it violates WP:NOT Secret 22:44, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

AfD close

Hi Secret. I question your close of Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Killing of Yehoshua Weisbrod. I do not believe it interpreted consensus in that discussion correctly. Perhaps you may wish to re-open it for further comment? Or, alternatively, reconsider the close? Best. --Epeefleche (talk) 23:54, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Secret, I am here on the same errand as Epeefleche The event was covered widely in international media, had an impact described and sourced in the article on ensuing political, continued to be discussed in later years due to the notoriety of the perpetrator (as was documented in the article), raised a small diplomatic brouhaha due to violation of the terms of the Oslo Accords, and, in short, I hope that you will reconsider.ShulMaven (talk) 02:13, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

hello, sorry, and objection

Hello.

I am very sorry to have upset you about the RFA. I will make an effort to be sensitive to the needs of all in the future. In fact, I will not correct vital errors in that RFA in the spirit of cooperation.

Now for the objection. I strongly object to your actions regarding the RFA. You are a nominator. As such, it is a conflict of interest for you to remove votes and block people who oppose the RFA. If concerned, you should have discussed it with an uninvolved administrator.

I also object to your false accusations. I did not "almost 3RR". Furthermore, you did not warn me if you wrongly thought I was doing 3RR. I was not disruptive editing but merely expressing valid concern in the RFA. I was also not "warned multiple times".

As a result of your improper behavior, I request that you act as though you have been blocked for 94 hours (treble damages). From this point on, please do not edit anything or take any administrative action, except for editing your talk page. Your pseudo-block ends on November 30, 2014 in 94 hours. Thank you for your cooperation. If you comply, this will be a learning experience for you and resolve this situation. I know it is an unusual request but please do not dismiss it just because you have administrative powers.

Hello, again! Eating Glass Is Bad (talk) 16:07, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

name change?

Consider removing the "account" part in your signature. Having a secret account may be sockpuppetry and, therefore, usually not permitted. If your name is "secret", just leave it at that.

Analogies always are imperfect but consider this. What if your user name "I Like". Ok. But adding a signature line "I Like _ to kill and torture" would be wrong even if the user name is ok.

I have written to you in case you haven't thought of it. Have a nice day! Eating Glass Is Bad (talk) 16:13, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
