I like your way. Screw it. I tried and failed! Hope to see you again in more pleasant circumstances! Karwynn (talk) 16:07, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

RFC

rootology, thanks for your comments at the hipocrite rfc. If you can stand to, though, I'd take the RFC off your watchlist if I were you.

  1. You've made your point, which is very well taken, thoughtful, and civil
  2. At this point, the fight between you and Hipo is obviously adding to both your stress levels

I'm not saying you're wrong, but IMHO, you're hitting diminishing marginal returns. Thanks, TheronJ 22:27, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually, if I could make one more unsolicited suggestion, I'd recommend that you strike and apologize for your "stop trolling, troll" comment. I understand that you've been civil for dozens of edits and that Hipo and Zoe have been calling people sockpuppets, trolls, and worse right and left, but (1) responding in kind doesn't do any good, and (2) apologizing for it is the right thing to do. TheronJ 22:39, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
(edit conflicted) WP:NPA applies both ways, rootology - your calling Hipocrite a troll was unnecessary and inflammatory. Georgewilliamherbert 22:42, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi, good idea, I'll change that. That was a stupid thing to post, by replying in kind to their baiting of me. rootology (T) 22:40, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi George, removed, and apology posted. Not sure if its worth it, but in a good faith move I asked Hip to do likewise... rootology (T) 22:44, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Good on you - thanks for doing the right thing. (And I do encourage taking the RFC off your watchlist and coming back in a few days to see how it turns out. You've made good points, but there's not much more that you can do on this one.) TheronJ 22:44, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Looking for an AfD

If you have the patience, you can start at ] and page through all of them. User:Zoe|(talk) 01:56, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

I wouldn't have had the patience to go through all of that. Good luck. I wasn't "pulled into" the History21 mess, I've been there for some time, because of all of the Eyre stuff. But I've taken enough troll time. No more.  :) User:Zoe|(talk) 02:58, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

How?

Unless the "sockpuppetry" was confirmed through matching IP addresses, I do not see how this is possible. I have operated through public IP addresses, but I have not sockpuppeted. I just don't understand this. I haven't been malicious, I haven't vandalized, I haven't done anything wrong. And here I am, a good user who has committed no crime and is nonetheless condemned, abandoned even by those who initially supported his attempt to stopped an unjustified attack! I'm sorry, this anger is not directed at you, but I am frankly bewildered and upset. This is becoming far too much. I joined Misplaced Pages to have fun, and now find myself fighting tooth and nail simply for the right to stay on under some sort of probation.

Unless some light is shed on this, I will seriously consider leaving the Misplaced Pages community. I AM NOT A SOCKPUPPET!!!

Is it IP addresses? That I understand, but if it's something else than it is simply beyond me. I'm sorry, I can't discuss this any further, I'm getting too angry.

History21 02:06, 3 August 2006 (UTC)History21

A SOCK?!?!

Yeah, I suspected that about History21, but given the incivility and lack of AGF, I still thought there was a problem. But if the RfC's dying down, I guess I'll remove my endorsements and wash my hands clean of it. Hopefully Hip's wikibreak will cool him down as my two did for me, and maybe this will all be done here and now, so that RfC will be moot.

By the way, congrats on your 1000 edits. I guess you're worth something now :-) Karwynn (talk) 15:19, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Templates thingy business....

About all those templates and articles you mentioned on the village pump - if there are lots and lots of em then pick a state or 2 for me and I will do some work on it if you like. Lighten the load and what not :D --Errant Tmorton166(Review me) 21:05, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Heh... if you're game... I started with Template:Washington just because I live there, going by county alphabetically as far as Douglas county so far, to break communities down into more manageable chunks--I tagged every unincorporated area (except ghost towns), village, town, and city. It's totally hit or miss, regardless of size. It was somelike like 60% complete, maybe. Just whip open a bunch in tabs on Firefox, and have at them, with the template tag at the bottom and as the edit summary. If you want I can get WA, maybe your own state first for you? My OCD twitched violently when I caught wind of this being incomplete everywhere. Every state is hit or miss (except CT, which is done) that I could see. This could maybe even be a decent project to start, and recruit for. It can't really be done by bot as it's subjective in places. rootology (T) 21:11, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok no problem I will start rooting around and pick a state to work on. err as to my own state as big as your country is I don't think the UK is quite in it yet... :D As to a Misplaced Pages:Wikiproject yeah thats a good idea - there are 52 states after all :D :D --Errant Tmorton166(Review me) 21:18, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Superman Returns

I think you did some nice work on the article, it definitely has a better flow now. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to work on this, but I can give my opinion: All sections eventually need to be cut down to essentials (the plot can be distilled further, for instance) and most of the Box Office details will eventually evaporate. I'd say the article can sit for a little while, let's see how fan(atics) react to your changes. I'll make a couple minor changes... Jeff schiller 03:41, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Superman

I went ahead and cut down the links at Superman Returns even more; I'm not a fan of dodgy external links! Hope you don't mind, HawkerTyphoon 09:21, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Inland Connecticut

Not sure on the usage of the term - I live in Massachusetts, not Connecticut. However, I see there are other "valid" regions listed in the template (such as the Litchfield Hills, Quiet Corner, and Greater Hartford) that constitute what I think is "inland Connecticut". I'm for removing it. --Schzmo 23:07, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Screenshots

Actually, I don't think images and copywrite isses regarding them is my forte. I can see nothing wrong with the screenshots you have uploaded and added to the article about Superman Returns. You clearly detailed why the screenshots were uploaded, have an appropriate image tag I believe and have discussed that they are low resolution, etc. Good work.--MONGO 20:56, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

The images are mainly in violation of Misplaced Pages's fair use policy.
A limited number of photos that provide information or critical commentary is fine. However, the inclusion of a stand-alone gallery of copyrighted screenshots is not premitted under that policy. For example, the copyrighted comic covers referenced in the film are fine, since they add to the critical commentary of the film's shooting process. The stand alone gallery does not provide any additional information, unfortunately. --Madchester 01:56, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry

Well thats too bad about him, however I still tend to stand by your original statement. The blanket, blind reversion of all of the content was wrong, and if sources were needed than sources should have been asked for with cite notices. ~Rangeley (talk) 01:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Image:USSEvansDE-1023.jpg

Hi, I noticed that you uploaded this image, Image:USSEvansDE-1023.jpg. While it is appreciated and it is a very good image of the ship in question I am concerned over its source. Given its age, it may be in the public domain either because the copyright may have expired (if it existed), or if it was created by the Navy, which would place it within the public domain. I was wondering if you could provide some more information as to where it came from, or how you attained this image. At the bottom of the image it says S.F. Golden Gate - August 1957 Is this some sort of magazine, do you know more about this? Thanks -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 05:33, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Google Bombs

Thanks a lot for taking on the mergeing/moving of all those Google Bomb articles. I was about to sit down and do it when I got the pleasant surprise. --Danielrocks123 21:31, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

However, the images are currently orphaned, meaning that they not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the images were previously in an article, please go to the articles and see why they were removed. You may add them back if you think that they will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 19:59, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Good thinking, I was trying to stay on subject, but I wandered after all :-\. YOu're right though, it seems like people only oppose this when they get into conflicts, makes me wonder what they're afraid of. Karwynn (talk) 14:58, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Admin recall

I don't have a problem with developing a policy that will make admins easier to desysop, but I'm not sure that I have much to add to the debate on that proposed policy. If I think of anything, I'll chime in.--MONGO 20:30, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Santorum straw poll

Hi -- I didn't want to post this on the straw poll page, but I think your vote is not where you want it in the Santorum AfD straw poll. Right now you're voting for the article titled "Santorum" to be about the sexual slang term. When I made the comment to you on that page, I was really suggesting you move your comment down to the section underneath. Again, sorry if I've misinterpreted your statements there. Mike Christie (talk) 10:03, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Editing patterns

I think you're busy wikistalking Tony Sidaway around to other editors talk pages and referring to other editors as "trolling" (which is something you have repeatedly been stating that others do)...so please don't do that.--MONGO 15:40, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

There you go again, with the comment about trolling. You beginning to see my point?--MONGO 15:48, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Root, I know that other people use the term all the time, but IMHO, no good can ever come of accusing someone else of being a troll or of trolling.
  1. It's wrong. Because trolling requires intent, using either term requires that you assume bad faith;
  2. It doesn't do any good. Noone, in the history of time, has ever been convinced to change their mind for the better because they saw someone called a troll; people who are disposed not to like Cyde's edits will react just the same if you say "Cyde had some fairly (or remarkably) uncivil edits" as if you say "Cyde trolled me"; and people who are disposed to like Cyde's edits will be less convinced by the trolling accusation; and
  3. It forces you to surrender a little bit of the high ground on your quest for admin civility.

Award

For your hard work in fighting the extreme right wing POV warriors through clever diplomacy, you are hereby awarded the Edward R. Murrow barnstar, which is awarded to those who have struggled against right wing manipulation of Misplaced Pages policy. Travb (talk) 21:11, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Not that I approve of vandalism but...

That was pretty funny! (You reverted before I got the chance... I had a clever editing comment too!) --SB_Johnny | 22:31, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm not an admin here. My edit summary, BTW, would have read "dispite the possibly accurate allusion to the aroma, rvv) --SB_Johnny | 23:03, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Do you troll on everything related to E.D.?

Or is "trolling" an inaccurate statement of your behavior? The E.D. thing was a secondary reason (that I essentially took more note of after the start of the MfD). (Netscott) 15:25, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

As to why I managed to know about the E.D. talk page thing it was due to watchlisting Encyclopedia Dramatica after the close of the AfD. My trolling comments are spurred on by your mischaracterization of my actions relative to E.D. You'd do well to assume good faith yourself. (Netscott) 15:37, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Whoops

People at WP:RECALL kept asking for an outline of what the problem is, what the solution would be etc., so I drummed one up. I meant to ask you to look at it, since it is your policy after all and I was only speculating as to what motivated it, but I completely spaced it. It's at Wikipedia_talk:Administrator_recall#Some_principles. Karwynn (talk) 16:45, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Ok, what I really mean is change it to your heart's content and I won't gripe or anything. Didn't make that clear before, but I don't want you to think I'm hijacking your proposal. Karwynn (talk) 17:09, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Warning

Go find something else to do. You've long since ceased saying anything productive. --Cyde Weys 18:41, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your general opinion on whether I can participate in a given portion of Misplaced Pages. However, I have no reason to not correct factual inaccuracies, nor is there any prohibition against my participating in an RfC. Additionally, before issueing warnings, please review Tony's own violations of WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA. I see no violation be me in your cited diff. Further, as an involved party, I would strongly ask you to consider review from an impartial outside venue such as WP:ANI.rootology (T) 18:43, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
I think the problem here is that it is a personal attack to accuse someone of lying. That's not "correcting inaccuracies". --Tony Sidaway 18:47, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Tony, there is a clear double standard here. You have made personal attacks on me on that same venue. Am I outside my bounds to suggest that someone is arguing based on information that is not completely accurate? rootology (T) 18:51, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Admonition

This is not a warning. It is a firm request.

I would like to ask that you refrain from such abstract not-technically-insults as the one you made to Tony Sidaway on the RfC for Kelly Martin. It never helps, and makes you look bad.

Thank you. DS 18:44, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Will you issue a similar request to Tony for his own abstract not-technically-insults directed towards me yesterday? rootology (T) 18:47, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Not really my business maybe, but if this goes to AN/I like you suggested above, will you let me know so I can comment? I'm getting similar warnings for posting comments critical of an administrator. Thanks, Karwynn (talk) 19:11, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

No good-faith effort to improve an article is vandalism. You really need to stop characterising people's work that way, especially in the edit summaries. Tom Harrison 21:18, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
