Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, ''']'''. First, thank you for your contribution; Misplaced Pages relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – ''']'''. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for ]. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Misplaced Pages. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at ] – you might like to discuss new information at ].

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may '''contest the nomination''' by ] and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with ]. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request ]. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the ] and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Misplaced Pages looks forward to your future contributions. ] (]) 19:57, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

== Username question ==

You appear to be confused about what that deletion log means. Kendall-K1 created the account in July 2011 and has had control of it since. Two other users created the page ]. Kendall-K1 did not want the page and requested the page be deleted. JohnCD deleted it the first time it happened and I deleted it the second time. JohnCD nor I took control of the account, we just deleted the page. The account was not renamed or deleted, just the userpage. Kendall-K1 is alive and well and has control of the account. - ] ] 14:57, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
::So it's the same user, reinstating the name? Not a new user?
:::No one has reinstated the name. The account was created in July 2011 and has never been deleted. The userpage and the account while linked are different. The account is what you log into. The only way an account can be deleted is to have a developer delete it (that never happens). The userpage is just a page like an article. It can be deleted and restored by any admin but does not effect who has control of the account. I could delete your userpage (]) and you would still have complete access to your account, I would not gain access to your account. - ] ] 15:22, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
::::Ok, sorry for being thick. :) {] (]) 15:26, 13 February 2017 (UTC)}
:::::No problem. Sometimes things on here are not as straight forward as they should be. - ] ] 15:42, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

== Western Ferries ==

Having noticed the change you made in the title of the above article, I have now reverted back to the original title. While the title you used may be the correct, full, legal name of the company, Misplaced Pages policy is to use the '''common names''' by which things are referred to for article titles. You can see the relevant policy at ]. The company itself generally refers to itself as simply "Western Ferries" in its website, branding etc., and this is also how they are normally referred to in news sources as well. In any case, your title would have unsatisfactory as it contained the unusual capitalisation of "LTD". I hope you'll understand why your change wasn't helpful in this instance. ] (]) 09:51, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
:The same goes for the move you also performed with Argyll Ferries. ] (]) 10:36, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
:: Ok, seems the opposite to most naming policies. {] (]) 15:26, 14 February 2017 (UTC)}

== Infobox districts ==

Please stop filling in the "district" parameter in the UK place infobox for locations in Scotland. The information presented relates to current administrative areas, and this line is only relevant to the system of county and district councils in parts of England. Scotland has not had districts since the 1990s. This line should be left blank, and not filled in with old county names or anything else. ] (]) 20:23, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

== Infobox distances ==

Please correct the over-precise distances you've been adding for distances from London and Edinburgh in ] and similar articles. Whole miles is the appropriate level of detail, not to the nearest 17.6 yards! And take out the references, which are very rarely needed in infoboxes. Infoboxes should only include information which is already in the article, so it would be appropriate to add a sentence like " XXX is yy miles North West of Edinburgh, as the crow flies." with a good reference. (Not just a bare URL). The "North West" etc can also go into the infobox - there's a field called "edinburgh_direction" to use, as in the Featured Article ]. (

I'm not convinced that it's appropriate to add London distance, but have reread a bit which I thought said not to and changed my mind. Shamingly I can't find any UK populated places outside England in the list of Featured Articles at ], which is my usual way to check what's good style if the documentation is ambiguous - umpteen articles within Greater Manchester or Lincolnshire, a couple on islands like ], but no settlements north of ]. I'll reinstate that distance, which I deleted from ]. ]] 18:46, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

: Sorry but this is just nonsense, the distance from anywhere to anywhere else is a fact, whether one of the places is in Scotland or both in England. As for being over-precise, again just nonsense, no distance on Misplaced Pages is precise as the points the measurements are taken from are not fixed point. {SCS 22:19, 18 February 2017 (UTC)}

::I'm not sure what you're calling "Nonsense": To cite the distance from ] to London as "382.33 miles" is absurd. Please correct the distances you have added with such over-precision. Thanks. ]] 11:21, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

==Signing talk page comments==
On several occasions today you have not properly signed comments that you made on talk pages. When I have attempted to correct these errors on article talk pages you have then returned to remove these details. You can find advice about this on ]. It is not appropriate for you to avoid putting your details on talk pages, and when corrections are applied to provide these details you should not be removing them. ] (]) 22:48, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
: It is OK, as long as you have nothing better to do than correct other peoples edits, it gives you something to do! {] (])}
::Really? Your response suggests that you are deliberately ignoring Misplaced Pages's conventions and doing this to create work for other editors? ] (]) 23:11, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
:::No it suggests that you are always here to correct mistakes. Within seconds in many instances!{] (])}
::::Anyone can make a simple mistake. There are many experienced editors here who are willing to offer constructive feedback. Timely advice affords the opportunity to avoid mistakes being repeated. ] (]) 23:40, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
::::: The manner in which advice is given in many instances is very poor. The Misplaced Pages platform itself is also not user-friendly and needs overhauled. Many problems could be avoided by better platform management. IE there is no logical consistency in infobox templates, what works on one causes problems on others, which is just down to poor coding. {] (])}
::::::Your signature on talk pages should include the date - please amend your custom signature so that you sign with a date, or perhaps stop using three tildes and use four like other editors. It helps other editors to keep track of conversations. Thanks. See ] for much more information. ]] 11:15, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
::::::: This is another example of Misplaced Pages being over complicated, why different signatures? {] (]) 11:20, 19 February 2017 (UTC)}

Revision as of 11:16, 23 February 2017

Largs and unnecessary accuracy

There was an invalid parameter in the infobox for Largs see Template:Infobox UK place for details. I removed this, which you then reverted. I have removed it again. Stop reverting it. All you are doing is creating extra work for me.

I have reduced all the the coordinates to four decimal places, which is about 10 metres accuracy. The original figures were about 10 centimetres accuracy which is unnecessary in an article about settlemesnts. Twiceuponatime (talk) 10:36, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
