American Gothic is a painting by Grant Wood. Portraying a pitchfork-holding man and a woman in front of a house of Carpenter Gothic style, it is one of the most reproduced-- and one of the parodied images ever. The house, in Eldon, Iowa, is said to be the second most recognizable house in the United States, following the White House. The painting resides at the Art Institute of Chicago.
