Deepujoseph

Voice your opinion. (56/0/0) Ending 02:59, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Deepujoseph (talk · contribs) – Deepu Joseph is from Kochi, Kerala, southern India, and has been editing since November 2005, regularly since January 2006. He primarily edits India related material, across all aspects of Indian life. This old version of his userpage contains a list of his creations . In addition to this, he recently created Ayurveda, Mahé River, Cheraman Juma Masjid, Mayavi, and Moonnamathoral.

In this selection, he has created five articles: Yuktibhasa, Mahé River, Cheraman Juma Masjid, Mitr, My Friend, Moonnamathoral which have been selected for DYK, and show a good understanding of NPOV and sourcing. For followers of the 1FA principle/philosophy, he contributed heavily to the content of Kochi (India) which is a FA, showing the wide array of skills, patience and attention to detail that comes with it.

Deepu is active in maintaining two portals, Portal:Kerala and Portal:India, helping to select, organise and rotate the selection of content (eg, articles, DYKs) on the front of the portals . He also satisfies a rather obscure criteria that will please some in that he has 20-30 portal talk edits. He also maintains the news section on the Kerala portal {{Wikiportal:Kerala/News}}

He is quick to lend a helping hand to other users (DYK help User_talk:Kuaichik#Fran.C3.A7ais.2C_Ankur_et_al, , signatures , cut-paste moving , username ), and helps to organise the work at Misplaced Pages:Notice board for India-related topics/Kerala. He is also willing to and good at explaining himself to other users at the reference desk (, ), which is important as administrators need to be able to explain their actions in detail if required.

He is able to work together with others in project tasks, discussing sensitive topics such as religion (, ) and (, ).

He remains calm and rational even whilst others are not during discussions - a debate over the biggest city in Kerala -(, , , ) - and a debate at India as an emerging superpower which can often descend into heated debate wrt nationalism and strong geopolitical opinion - (, , , , ). Further examples can be seen at South India (, ) and working on improvements to Kochi (India) (, , , ) and did he not edit war in any of these situations.

He has demonstrated a strong understanding of the fundamental pillars of encyclopedic integrity - NPOV (, , , , ) and Reliable sources ( )

Deepu has a good understanding of the procedural side of Misplaced Pages. He has shown insight at AFD (, Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Paliam, Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/List of Nair Tharavadus) rather than straight voting, which is required to ensure that the correct outcome is required when closing AfD, rather than simple tallying.

He has a good understanding of image policy, participating in image tagging (), and explaining the policy (, ) to other users in detail. Misplaced Pages desperately needs more administrators who are confident with image policy as these are regularly backlogged 3+ days. All of his uploads are tagged appropriately.

He actively participates in reverting spam (, , , ) and vandalism () and warns the users appropriately. He has reverted close to a thousand vandalism edits.

Finally, the paperwork requirements with respect to userpages, signature, email, and edit summaries are all in order, so I would ask the community to approve for Deepujoseph to handle administrative duties.Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 08:07, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Conomination by Ageo020

Deepujoseph has been an editor over here since October 2005. Over last count, he has over 9000 edits and has created 85 new articles. He has worked extensively on Kochi which is a Featured article. He has also done RC patrolling, an example of his Vandal fighting can be seen here . An allround editor, Deepu has contributed images, categories, templates, particiaptes in AFD's and RFA's

Deepu is one of the outstanding users in the community with 7 barnstars being awarded to him. He is a part of WikiProject Kerala. He is civil and friendly.. He has a sound understanding of policy and process, and is an asset to the project, who certainly wouldn't abuse the admin tools.

He has email enabled, has 100% edit summary usage, has an uncontroversial userpage, has never been blocked, and has demonstrated his clear understanding of policy many times in all of his Misplaced Pages: space edits. He would be a great administrator and a great asset to Misplaced Pages If I didn't mention something important, that's probably because I forgot it, not because he didn't work on it. Come on, let's give him a mop Ageo020 (talkcontribscount) 02:59, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Conomination by Lostintherush

I have known Deepu for about 5 months now and he has come across as very knowledgeable about Misplaced Pages policies, very cordial to work with and always eager to help. With such comprehensive nominations above, I will not add any more diffs though I can do so if required by anyone to substantiate my claims. Its a pleasure to conominate Deepu and I am sure he will do ample justice to the admin tools if the community decides to provide them to him -- Lost 09:40, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I accept.--thunderboltz 05:38, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Misplaced Pages in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Misplaced Pages backlog and Category:Administrative backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
A: If given the privilege of handling the admin tools, I’d like to help out at CAT:CSD and WP:AIV—two areas of Misplaced Pages, which I believe, requires constant administrative attention. As a regular recent changes and new pages patroller, the extra tools can help me deal more effectively with vandals. I currently use Lupin’s anti-vandal tool for patrolling, and the admin rollback function would be a welcome add-on.
I often help out with the backlog at CAT:NT, tagging images and media per WP:ICT. With the added janitorial tools, I believe I can complement this work by keeping a close watch on CAT:NL and CAT:NS as well. I've also familiarized myself with the process behind WP:RM. After a little experimenting, I'm sure I can help out here too. Once I get used to the tools, I would also like to help out at other admin chores—especially those that need special attention due to huge backlogs.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Misplaced Pages, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A: I'm happy with each and every one of my contributions. But if you ask me to pick, I would choose the Kochi (India) article, which I helped promote to FA. I'm particularly pleased with the Mayavi article too, considering that it is the only article on the comic online. And there is also Portal:Kerala, on which I've implemented an automatic system for the "selected article" section. You can also check the ”article factory” section on my user page for a list of articles that I intent to be proud of later on.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: I haven’t been involved in any major edit conflicts till date. There was a debate on the Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram pages over the size of the cities (see diffs provided by Blnguyen). I feel that I’ve been able to stay reasonably clam and civil during the whole incident, without resorting to any edit warring or personal attacks.
I was also forced to do a checkuser on myself during last July over a few bad faith assumptions raised by my college authorities. The checkuser, which returned negative, can be seen here.
4. What is the difference between guidelines and policies on Misplaced Pages? How important is it that guidelines be followed by admins as well as non-admin users? Do Misplaced Pages administrators, as the representatives of the community and (possibly) role-models to the other users need to strictly adhere to guidelines as well as policies?

5. What are your views with respect to WP:WONK? Can users be cleanly segregated into either category? Do you fit into any particular category?
6. What do the policy of WP:IAR and the essay WP:SNOW mean to you and how would you apply them?
A:
7. What is your opinion and view of the websites wikipediareview.com and wikitruth.info that are critical of Misplaced Pages? Anomo 21:53, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

8. I'm just curious - why do you think this is relevant to adminship? (Say hello) to Eddie 03:19, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

  1. Support. Instead of a co-nom, I'll go for the first support. I've observed him closely ever since he joined because we edit is the same areas and for me he has been very close what an ideal wikipedian should be. He is a good editor, always prepared put in the extra bit of research effort, goes out of the way to be nice to people, fair and receptive to cricticism. Tintin (talk) 05:29, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Oppose

  1. Half-hearted opposition- I don't like the ways of this user and I have a very specific reason to dislike them. I used to be another user named Kuntan and I believe this user conspired to have my username changed because he is ignorant about the idiom of Malayalam and that proper name of marginalised people jarred on his snobbish sensibilities. (I remember that I called him and another user two rare instances of sensible Wikipedians from Kerala on his talk page prior to that.) However, since then, I have noted that this user is unduly patronising towards new users. His book-kissing and immature interpretation of policies is often annoying. The articles he prepared single-handedly resemble school book assignments rather than encylopedic articles, (Mahé River for example), although they are far better than most of the stupid articles related to Kerala like this stupid scatty piece like Mamankam. And I strongly doubt he has some petty biases from an edit summary he inserted for his revert of Malayala Manorama on October 16. The first thing he should do after election (a foregone conclusion), I believe, is to delete a few silly articles or stubs he created, like Kochi City Police,Toc-H Public School, School of Communication and Management Studies etc. But for my pleasure of cooking the goose of a unanimous election, I should have placed these remarks under comments section and abstained from opposing.
