The following is a list of characters from the American animated television series Metalocalypse.
The Band
Nathan Explosion
Born in Florida to Oscar and Rose Explosion, Nathan Explosion is the lead singer and the lyrical visionary of Dethklok. He bears a resemblance to both Cannibal Corpse's George Fisher and Glenn Danzig.
Due to excessive drinking habits, such as ordering one hundred beers at a time, Nathan has to undergo repeated liver replacement surgery and has been known to vomit blood when he has not received the proper medical attention. In addition, he has trouble expressing himself emotionally to someone, unless he is intoxicated or that person is dead.
At times, Nathan seems unaware of most things outside the scope of metal, and is often shown discovering things that would appear obvious to most people, such as the fact that a band that has not broken up can't reunite or the fact that the band can fire people who work for them. He often describes things in terms of whether or not they are brutal or metal. However, Nathan has shown that he isn't completely inept outside of metal. In "Skwisklok", when Toki's tooth falls out, Nathan explains to him that it might be because of Toki eating too much candy. Nathan always carries a digital recording device, in which he notes any interesting song material he may run across (usually limited to murder or similar acts of brutality). He has exacting standards, and will delete entire finished Dethklok albums if they do not ultimately meet his approval. He also hates wearing watches, and sometimes will buy large amounts of watches just to destroy them. Nathan has his own brand of BBQ sauce known as "Explosion Sauce", a mustardy North Carolina blend with a hint of cilantro which he is known to drink. Nathan is a huge fan of motivational speakers, and loves being motivated.
William Murderface
William Murderface plays the bass guitar and is the most hate-filled man on the planet. He is a nihilist and hates no one more than himself. He was raised by his grandparents Thunderbolt and Stella Murderface after he lost his mother and father in a grim chainsaw murder/suicide. William has a strong American accent with a lisp and seems to spit a lot because of it. He bears a resemblance to Geezer Butler, the bassist for Black Sabbath. He has a tattoo on his stomach which states "Pobody's Nerfect" and "This Mess Is A Place".
Murderface has a habit of urinating or referring to urination, and even has a side project band called "Planet Piss". He is capable of playing an electric bass guitar with his "hog" (penis) and, according to Pickles, likes to collect "morbid crap." Oddly enough, Murderface often seems to be the most sensitive and insecure member of the band. He has claimed to be depressed because he feels fat, tried to run away from Mordland, cried blood, engages in self-mutilation, wet himself when recalling traumatic childhood memories, and uttered phrases like "I miss Pickles." In an odd contrast, Murderface is probably the most violent of the band as well, as he seems to have no problem with attacking, killing, or executing people. He regularly throws tantrums when he doesn't get his way, which has resulted in several destroyed bass guitars. He owns a custom made dungeon/torture chamber and supposedly spends most of his time there when not with the band. Murderface endorses a brand of doorknobs known as 'Murderknobs'.
Pickles the Drummer
Pickles the Drummer plays the drums and was raised in Wisconsin. He bears a strong hatred for his older brother, Seth, whom his parents Calvert and Molly always brag about despite his being an ex-con and living above his parents' garage, among other failings. He is the only member of Dethklok whose last name is unknown. In the episode "Skwisklok", it is hinted that he himself doesn't even know his last name, as he introduces himself as "Pickles the Drummer". He bears a resemblance to Devin Townsend of The Devin Townsend Band and Strapping Young Lad, and Axl Rose of Guns N' Roses.
Of all the Dethklok members, Pickles is the most socially capable, and is usually the first to grasp concepts that the others have difficulty comprehending. This is evidenced by the fact that he is the only band member who reads the newspaper and knows what a grocery store is. Pickles usually acts as the voice of reason and logic in Dethklok as well as helping Toki and Skwisgaar with their loose understanding of English. Pickles has an endorsement deal for nickels with the United States Treasury.
Pickles joined Dethklok after singing and playing lead guitar in L.A. rock band Snakes 'n' Barrels (a strong parody of eighties hard rock band Guns N' Roses). He is a very severe drug abuser, almost to the point of being exageratedly so, and subsequently has become immune to the negative effects of all drugs he has ever taken. This includes the government-developed drug Totally Awesome Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake, which destroyed the minds of every other band member in Snakes 'n Barrels. He claims to be immune to drugs because he "grew up smoking government weed every day" due to suffering from "kiddie glaucoma." However, he is capable of becoming drunk. He does seem to have asthma, as he has been depicted using an inhaler (though this might have been a relapse, as he stated it had been "15 years" since he used it).
Skwisgaar Skwigelf
Skwisgaar Skwigelf is the lead guitarist of the band and also the fastest guitarist alive. He bears a resemblance to Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom, and in the episode "Skwisklok" he wears corpse paint in the style of Maniac from Mayhem and wears a costume similar to Nergal from Behemoth. Despite being the fastest guitarist alive, he cannot read music and blames his "music dyslexia" for this. Throughout the show he is seen practicing constantly; this and his possible ambidexterity can account for some of his talent. He seems to dislike the Danish (Denmark and Sweden have a "rivalry" of sorts, each country making fun of the other) even though he often confuses them with the Dutch. He is also severely allergic to cilantro, which is made apparent when he tastes barbecue sauce with cilantro in it before a show.
Skwisgaar is from Sweden, and consequently possesses a strong Swedish accent, putting "s"'s at the end of many words he says. Skwisgaar was raised by his mother Serveta Skwigelf, Miss Sweden of 1956. Skwisgaar's frustration at his mother's sexual promiscuity is expressed through extremely fast guitar fingering and his own personal sexual exploits. Similarly, he appears to be the most sexually active member of the band and often brags about his many conquests to Toki (going so far as to make the claim of having sex with at least 500 women the last time he was in Finland), who seems to resent it. Skwisgaar also seems to hold little importance on the physical appearance of sexual partners, as he has been seen propositioning an elderly grandmother for sex as well as sleeping with a very obese woman. This lack of importance most likely comes from his mother's extreme sexual promiscuity.
He has been in a large number of bands prior to joining Dethklok, including Agnostic Priest, Gangagar Eldeleel-Alele, Gognog Mug Alugdug, Fuckface Academy, Sausage Assassin, Financially Raped, and Smugly Dismissed to name a few. Skwisgaar also refers to things he hates as dildos. One episode shows his hands being insured for ten billion dollars, one billion for each finger.
Toki Wartooth
Toki Wartooth is the rhythm guitarist and the second fastest guitarist alive, though he too cannot read music. He bears a resemblance Varg Vikernes of Burzum, Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth, and Peter Tagtgren of Hypocrisy. He hails from an abandoned village near Lillehammer, Norway, the product of a seemingly unholy union between Anja and the Reverend Aslaug Wartooth. His mother appears to be a nun, and both his parents dress in a very old world style (like the Amish). During the episode in which Toki's parents visit, Toki does not move or say anything. This behavior is also exhibited by his parents, and its manifestation in Toki is a result of a fear of his parents.
Toki's personality tends to be more child-like, innocent, and good-natured than the rest of the band, though he does appear to be chronically depressed. This innocence results in his having childish beliefs (such as the idea that adult teeth will grow back because baby teeth do) and occasionally having childhood fantasies (such as singing a Beatlesesque song under the sea with "underwater friends"), but he manages to fit in with the band regardless. Additionally, Toki is often the subject of cruel jokes and verbal abuse from his bandmates, but does not seem to mind. Toki and Skwisgaar have a somewhat brotherly relationship, with Toki sometimes being intimidated by the exploits of the more experienced Skwisgaar. Like Skwisgaar, he is stereotypically Scandinavian with light hair and eyes and a tendency to slur his words. Skwisgaar and Toki also resemble the Norway-Sweden rivalry (or the black metal Norway vs. death metal Sweden rivalry of the early 90s) in a tendency to argue.
Aside from playing guitar, he spends much of his free time building scale models. Toki is the only member to not have been in a band before Dethklok. He has an endorsement deal with "Willard Wonky Candy-Hand Candy"-brand candies, who ship him vast amounts of free candy as part of his payment. Because of this, he develops a very extreme case of diabetes which causes him to slip in and out of comas (at least for the length of the episode).
Toki also oddly seems to make statements or be placed in situations with homoerotic subtext through several misunderstandings. Such as when he mistook the word 'blow job' to mean 'nose bleed' and proudly announced "I can gives myself a really cool blowjob!" as well as the time when he uttered the phrase "I love sausage festival!" during Murderface's birthday party. Also, in 'Murdering outside the box' Toki purchased a vibrating strap-on, thinking it was a codpiece.
The Council
In every episode, an Illuminati-style group of eight men are shown meeting together to discuss Dethklok's latest activities and the dangers they pose. They are immune to the extreme influence of Dethklok, possibly because they might know what they truly are. In their first meeting, all they know is the information given in the show's theme song (word for word), but they learn much more through research on fansites and other resources. Also at the first meeting, they mention that Dethklok's lineup resembles figures in an ancient Sumerian prophecy. They meet in a room dominated by nine television sets stacked in a three-by-three square, which usually functions as one big TV. The screens show news reports, Dethklok footage, background profiles, and other usable information. It seems to be underground, as it has no windows and no visible doors. A symbol resembling the Presidential Seal is drawn on the walls, indicating that the government is affiliated with the group. Their briefings are led by Senator Stampingston, who usually has experts speak based on whatever Dethklok is doing in the episode. The group has both military and religious leaders in its rank, among others. At its head is an elderly man who sits in a throne in the center.
Members
- Senator Stampingston - He is the main speaker who reports on Dethklok's current activities. He doesn't seem to have a seat, instead standing in front of the television sets. He has a diplomatic standpoint for the issues against Dethklok, often recommending spies and other forms of finding out more about Dethklok.
- General Krosier - Sitting on the farthest left, he is a American military general. He has a military standpoint for the issues against Dethklok. He usually recommends military action against Dethklok, often in the form of assassination. The senator and the elderly man discourage these actions.
- Unnamed Priest - He is an elderly priest of an unknown Christian sect who has a religious standpoint for the issues against Dethklok. He often thinks God will deal with whatever Dethklok is doing. Often, he has been seen to have prophetic visions of the outcomes of Dethklok's current activities. During the episode "Skwisklok", the priest admits that he is looking forward to Skwisgaar's pay per view event as he has taken up playing the guitar.
- Elder - The elder, who sits in a throne in the center, is usually the last to speak, and always has the final word on what course of action the group will take. None of the other members have ever questioned him, indicating that he may be the leader of the group. Despite his mysteriousness, he leaves a feeling that he knows the most about Dethklok and doesn't bother to say anything. Oddly enough, he always recommends inaction, ordering the council to allow what is occuring to take place undisturbed.
There are four other members, but they do not speak.
Experts
- Dr. Gibbons - Birthday expert hired to discuss Murderface and his birthday
- Dr. Armand Scatarak Frederickshaven - Mythology expert hired to discuss the Finnish lake troll
- Dr. Donald Gorfield - Comedy specialist hired to discuss how comedy affects people
- Dr. Romumilif Chesterfield - Military Pharmicist Expert hired to explain the drug "Totally Awesome Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake" and give it to the Snakes N' Barrels members
- Dr. Ronald von Moldenberg - Endorsement specialist hired to discuss Dethklok's transition to endorsement deals
Recurring characters
Dethklok's advisor
Dethklok's unnamed advisor is usually the voice of reason against Dethklok's constant disregard of law and logic. Nathan Explosion describes one of the advisor's jobs as convincing the band that the terrible ideas they come up with while drunk are just that. Dethklok's spike-covered cell phones with night-time minutes starting at 11 p.m. and one shared line between the five of them are just one example of the bad ideas they come up with. (In that particular instance, he failed in his prescribed duties.) He also acts as manager, lawyer, and advisor to Dethklok, protecting the band against everything from slowing record sales to themselves (of which he has to do the most often). However, it seems that he isn't entirely set against the band's tendencies towards malice, as he had no problems leading two blackmail-threatening Dethklok fans to their deaths in one episode, even producing a half-grin while ordering their execution, and later allowing the band to blame their rampant embezzlement from their company on a recently-killed assassin. The advisor also does the voice of Facebones, Dethklok's animated company mascot.
Dethklok's roadies
Dethklok's roadies are the brutal overseers of the band's various properties and concerts. They all wear black masks and black uniforms, and in general resemble medieval executioners. It is strongly suggested that they are also branded on the back of their necks for identification purposes. They faithfully do Dethklok's bidding, beating and/or killing whomever Dethklok asks them to as well as performing more mundane tasks such as cleaning up after the band and general maintenance. They always refer to the members of Dethklok as 'My Lord(s)'.
Jean-Pierre
Jean-Pierre is Dethklok's faithful chef. He was once a normal stereotypical French chef, but was mangled when a stray missile shot through their helicopter during a live performance. When the missile detonated, he was thrown out of the helicopter and straight into the propellor blades. He was so mangled his body was split into several pieces that were connected by a strange machine; it cost Dethklok $10,000 a day to keep him alive. After realizing that they couldn't feed themselves, they sewed him back together, albeit very poorly. The act gave them inspiration for a song, aptly titled "Sewn Back Together Wrong," and gave Jean-Pierre a hideous appearance. He is indirectly responsible for the Queen of Denmark's death; having been asked to bake a "metal" cake, he took the term literally and made a cake with mercury frosting. Though he told people not to sample the frosting, as it would kill them, the Queen took a taste before he could stop her. She subsequently died of mercury poisoning.
One-time characters
- Dick "Magic Ears" Knubbler - Music producer sent to monitor Dethklok as they record underwater. Due to a pressure imbalance in a submarine, his eyes exploded and were later replaced with robotic prosthetics.
- Dr. Roxo, the Rock and Roll Clown - He was a clown hired to perform at Murderface's birthday party. He resembles David Lee Roth and members of KISS. He is an extreme cocaine addict, for he constantly mentions that he does, "a lot of cocaine." He was executed by Dethklok's roadies under Murderface's command.
- Lorkey the Sailor - A sea captain that trains Dethklok to be funny for their comedy routines. At the end of the episode, he commits suicide by shooting himself in the head.
- Nick Ibsen - A TV personality resembling Larry King. He was killed when a stage light fell into a pool of his own blood, electrocuting him. This event gave Nathan the idea for the song, "Bloodtrocuted".
- Serveta Skwigelf - Former Ms. Sweden 1956, and the single mother of Skwisgaar.
- Anja and Reverend Auslarg Wartooth - They are the extremely religious parents of Toki. They live in an abandoned village near Lillehammer, Norway.
- Stella and Thunderbolt Murderface - Grandparents who raised William after the chainsaw murder/suicide of his parents. Thunderbolt had a massive stroke that disabled his whole body, which forces him to sit in a wagon pulled by his wife until William buys him a wheelchair.
- Calvert and Molly - Pickles' parents. They reside in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, and are constantly proud of Pickles' older brother Seth, even though he is an ex-con.
- Seth - Pickles' older brother. An ex-con who constantly tries to make money off of Pickles' fame. Knows Pickles' PIN number, "and that is not a threat."
- Rose and Oscar Explosion - Nathan's parents. They live in Victory Gardens, an armed forces retirement community in Florida.
- Doctor Johnathan Twinkletits - He was a band therapist hired to keep Dethklok from having another fight on-stage. His last name is pronounced "twin-klet-its." He was a former member of a band known as 'The Amazelingtons.' He has several issues, because after the band broke up, he went crazy and disappeared for ten years. He reappeared with a therapy degree. He had such issues that he killed the Amazelingtons. He was killed when he fell into Dethklok's pack of wolves.
- Antonio Tony DiMarco Thunderbottom - Bassist from Snakes 'n Barrels. A former alcoholic and drug addict, now sober.
- Sammy "Candynose" Twinskins - Drummer from Snakes 'n Barrels. Formerly addicted to cocaine, but has since become sober.
- Snizzy Snazz Bullets - Rhythm Guitar player from Snakes 'n Barrels. Suffers from partial facial paralysis due to hallucinogen and heroin abuse.
- Eric and Edgar Jomfrune - Two brothers who dropped out of Harvard to become dedicated Dethklok fans. Proprietors of diefordethklok.com. They were killed when they tried to blackmail Dethklok.
- Fat Kid/Fatty/Fatty Ding-Dong - Feral mutant child adopted by Dethklok. They treated him like a pet, even to the point of neutering him. Tired of him constantly trashing things, Dethklok released him into the wild, where he was mauled and eaten by cats.
- Sergio Panperio - TV personality selling quality guitars on TV.
- 2-16 - Government agent sent to kill Dethklok disguised as one of their workers. He was killed when his face was impaled on Murderface's "diamond-encrusted, titanium-based codpiece."
