== Quoting a portion of a sentence == | |||
Dear Goethean. I came across your question of the 16 December 2009 at the Village Pump about "quoting a portion of a sentence". I feel that you did not really get a clear answer. That is now long ago, but perhaps you still remember. Have you solved the problem? I often add quotes in citations, mainly to clarify what I intend to cite on the given page of the source. To keep quotes short, I often omit parts of the sentence that are not immediately relevant to the text supported by the citation. You will find examples of this in ], such as "... when Cromwell was recalled to England on account of the threat from Scotland ...". As you see I use ellipses, but perhaps they are not needed? With many thanks and best regards, ] (]) 16:24, 22 July 2021 (UTC) |

Quoting a portion of a sentence
Dear Goethean. I came across your question of the 16 December 2009 at the Village Pump about "quoting a portion of a sentence". I feel that you did not really get a clear answer. That is now long ago, but perhaps you still remember. Have you solved the problem? I often add quotes in citations, mainly to clarify what I intend to cite on the given page of the source. To keep quotes short, I often omit parts of the sentence that are not immediately relevant to the text supported by the citation. You will find examples of this in Donough MacCarty, 1`st Earl of Clancarty, such as "... when Cromwell was recalled to England on account of the threat from Scotland ...". As you see I use ellipses, but perhaps they are not needed? With many thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 16:24, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
