Talk:People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran

*I have requested admin help here. I do not really think opening an RFC this multi-faceted and chaotic is productive, if even allowed. This page already had two open RFCs. Iskandar323 (talk) 07:46, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Talk:List of convicted war criminals

Should each section be made into a chart so that information on each person can be globalized? If so, some potential categories could be name and dates alive, position of power, and years of sentence. Lima Bean Farmer (talk) 18:54, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

Talk:Tewodros I

Should the article state Tewodros was killed by: A. Walasma princes or B. Adal Sultanate? Magherbin (talk) 20:37, 22 June 2022 (UTC)

Talk:North Carolina Highway 147

I stumbled across multiple signs that the project is in the final stages. First, on the official site of the NCDOT, in their DriveNC.gov site, it now shows I-885 (Sorry I can't link it directly but the signs pop up right after the Interchange with I-40). Second, I found an image originally from the News & Observer which shows that NC 147 will be decommissioned on the current concurrency with I-885. Not to mention they have taken the drapes off of the signs which mention I-885. What is everyone's opinion about this? Thanks! DiscoA340 (talk) 16:20, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

Talk:List of presidents of the United States

This request for comments is broadly for two question relating to this list:
  1. the table structure
  2. the lead image.

Both these issues have been previously discussed in above section, § Post-post-close discussion and § Lead image. There is no clear consensus among the talk page watchers for the lead image, and the table structure needs a broad discussion.

Misplaced Pages talk:Categorization

How should UK churches be sorted in categories in en.wiki? For background, including links to previous inconclusive discussions, please see the section #DEFAULTSORT for churches above. Note that articles on UK churches have a wide variety of title formats. Consider St Chad's Church, Far Headingley, but also:

(It is of course possible that some of these should have other article titles).

The practice of expanding "St" or "St." to "Saint" is mandated by WP:SORTKEY and appears uncontroversial, so "Sort by article title" or similar, in this RfC, can be taken to mean "Sort by title with "St" expanded to "Saint" (and with a leading "The" removed in rare cases)".

The only existing guidance on sortkeys appears to be that at WP:SORTKEY, which includes the option that "Systematic sort keys are also used in other categories where the logical sort order is not alphabetical (for example, individual month articles in year categories such as Category:2004 use sort keys like "*2004-04" for April). Again, such systems must be used consistently within a category.". There is no one Wikiproject dedicated to UK churches, though they come within the interests of many Wikiprojects: Christianity and its denominational subprojects; Architecture; United Kingdom; and UK geography and its country, county or regional subprojects. Categories is also relevant. There seems no obvious place to record the consensus with which this RfC will close, but an archived RfC lodged in the wiki-memory of a variety of editors will be useful. If agreement can be reached, we can (a) move towards consistent sorting within categories and (b) avoid conflict between editors and time wasted in changing DEFAULTSORTs. Talk:List of coups and coup attempts

Editing this list gets more complicated if we want to keep including not just verified coups and coup attempts, but also well-sourced allegations that such incidents have occurred (like these items). If alleged incidents are included or retained in this list, then we could (1) amend the lead to unambiguously explain the list criteria so readers will understand that some of the listed items are unverified by reliable secondary sources as actual coups or actual coup attempts. We could also avoid undue weight and confusion by (2) putting alleged incidents into a separate chronological section with an appropriate header (like this for example) instead of mixing them in with the verified incidents. So the RFC question is this: should step (1) and/or step (2) be implemented? Anythingyouwant (talk) 04:33, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages talk:Stand-alone lists

Misplaced Pages carries a number of stand-alone lists of individuals ranked by financial "net worth" for certain regions.

Examples: List of Europeans by net worth, List of wealthiest Americans by net worth, List of Canadians by net worth, List of Arabs by net worth, List of Saudis by net worth, List of British billionaires by net worth, List of Japanese by net worth, List of Pakistanis by net worth, List of Filipino billionaires by net worth, List of Indian people by net worth, List of Italians by net worth, List of Greeks by net worth, List of Portuguese by net worth, List of Ugandans by net worth, List of Romanians by net worth, List of Kenyans by net worth, etc.
Recently, an AfD was opened for "List of Asians by net worth" and the decision was to delete the list (see here).
Question #1:
We should continue to have these net-worth lists in Misplaced Pages. Yes or no?
Question #2:
In accordance with the consensus on question #1, we either allow all such lists to remain in Misplaced Pages unchallenged by AfDs or respectively delete each and every one, old and new. Yes or no?

Talk:North Carolina

I was just wondering what people thought about the idea of relisting this article as a "Good Article" nominee. It has been almost 15 years since it was delisted from the title and it has certainly a better article from then. All opinions are welcome but the main question I'm asking is do you think it's ready to be nominated again? Thanks!
  • Yes, It should be nominated.
  • No, It shouldn't be nominated.

Talk:American Civil War

As historian Neff notes, the Civil War lacks a precise end date: "In practice, the war was brought to an end on a piecemeal basis, by way of a welter of specific measures by the Union government." But since we remain in the business of conveying information, how should we communicate the end date in the infobox? Please peruse the above sections, with excellent research by Donner60 and company. The following dates stand out, but your solution needn't be limited to those listed:
  • April 9: Lee surrenders at Appomattox Courthouse, setting in motion a wave of surrenders. The earliest possible date we could claim.
  • April 26: Johnston's large force surrenders. John Wilkes Booth killed.
  • May 5: Effective dissolution of the Confederate government.
  • May 9: The disputed, but status quo ante version. Refers to Johnson's proclamation that belligerent rights are at an end.
  • May 10: Confederate President Jeff Davis captured.
  • May 13: Battle of Palmetto ranch, last of the war.
  • May 26: Edmund Kirby Smith's forces surrender, last large force surrender. Later argued as the end date by the Government.
  • June 2: Department of the Trans-Mississippi ordered to stand down.
  • June 19: Juneteenth, the slaves of Texas are freed.
  • June 22: Shenandoah, unaware of Lee and Johnston's surrender, fires the last shots of the war.
  • June 23: Stand Watie is the last Confederate general/land force to surrender.
  • November 6: Shenandoah surrenders in the UK, the last naval surrender.
  • August 20, 1866: President Johnson declares the insurrection suppressed. The last date we could claim. Supreme Court declares this as the end date for legal purposes.

Other possible approaches include:

  • 1865
  • Spring 1865
  • April-June 1865
  • April-May 1865
  • May 1865
  • (disputed)
  • (exact end date disputed)
  • (debatable)
  • (exact end date debatable)
  • (effective)

The topic is also covered at Conclusion of the American Civil War, though the above research has exposed the article as rather lacking. Smooth sailing, CaptainEek 18:39, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Talk:2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine

Talk:Astrology

How should the first sentences of the lead be worded?
  • Option A – Keep the current revision:

Astrology is a pseudoscience that claims to discern information about human affairs and terrestrial events by studying the movements and relative positions of celestial objects. Astrology has been practiced since at least the 2nd millennium BCE, and has its roots in calendrical systems used to predict seasonal shifts and to interpret celestial cycles as signs of divine communications.

  • Option B – Change to:

Astrology is a range of divinatory practices, recognized as pseudoscientific since the 18th century, that claim to discern information about human affairs and terrestrial events by studying the apparent positions of celestial objects. Different cultures have employed forms of astrology since at least the 2nd millennium BCE, these practices having originated in calendrical systems used to predict seasonal shifts and to interpret celestial cycles as signs of divine communications.

  • Option C – Change to:

Astrology is a form of divination, rejected by modern science, where practitioners claim to discern information about human affairs and terrestrial events by studying the apparent positions of celestial objects. To the extent that astrologers claim to have scientific evidence that astrology works, astrology is a textbook example of pseudoscience. Astrological practices have been documented as far back as the 2nd millennium BCE, these practices having originated in calendrical systems used to predict seasonal shifts and to interpret celestial cycles as signs of divine communications.

The new proposals were formulated as a result of the discussions above. ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 12:16, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

Talk:Hypothetical Axis victory in World War II

Recently there was controversy over what map or other image, if any, should be placed in the article's lead, eventually an RfC was held, with the conclusion that there was consensus against the proposed maps due to concerns over original research, but given that the only users who took part in it were ones who were already involved in the dispute, I thought it was appropriate to at least have further discussion on this issue.

I made some proposals which were already mentioned above:

  1. The world map based on The Man in the High Castle, which was recently removed: c:File:The Man in the High Castle Plausible World Map.png
  2. A world map based on Fatherland: c:File:Fatherland.png
  3. Another map based on Fatherland, but this time of Europe only, this was the one originally in the lead: c:File:Fatherland's 1964 Europe.jpg
  4. A model of the Volkshalle, which was to be built if Germany won: c:File:Bundesarchiv Bild 146-1986-029-02, "Germania", Modell "Große Halle".jpg
  5. A broader model of "Germania", the planned rebuilding of Berlin: c:File:Bundesarchiv Bild 146III-373, Modell der Neugestaltung Berlins ("Germania").jpg

Other suggestions would be welcomed. -- 2804:248:f650:6600:86f:165c:bba5:8f4 (talk) 04:51, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Talk:Winston-Salem, North Carolina

There have been several edits to the info box on the page recently (including by myself), revolving around the discussion to delete or keep the major Interstates & US Routes and the Airport in the info box. Myself and the other editor cannot agree, and I wanted to open it up for comment before we continue to undo each others edits.
  • Option 1: Keep the major Interstates & US Routes in the info box
  • Option 2: Remove the major interstate & US Routes from the info box

Talk:List of longest-reigning monarchs

See #14th : Elizabeth II for Jamaica section above. I've noticed the inconsistency with having Elizabeth as 2nd and 14th longest-reigning monarch(s?), and other wikipedians have. But at least one wikipedian (two ? I'm not sure what Peter O. thinks about this specific number question) disagree, the discussion can't go further. There's also the more general issue of having two separate Elizabeth entry (one for Jamaica and one for the other countries), me and others are also against it, but it seems to me that it's less important as it's a presentation issue, not an inconstistency issue. Talk:Suicide by jumping from height

Should this article about a particular method of suicide continue to include (i.e. keep) a list of specifically-named notable people who have died by this particular method? Does such a list have substantial value to explain or illustrate the topic of this article? Or should the existing list be removed (i.e. remove) with the consensus that it not be replaced without a new future consensus to do so?

The list in question is, as of this writing, the list beginning with "Prominent examples of autodefenestration include..." followed by a list of linked names.

What this RFC is not: This is not on the question of whether such a list should not be included (a) due to concerns about either sensitivity for the surviving friends and relatives of people on the list, (b) due to concerns about whether such a list publicizes suicide in a way that might empower or encourage living individuals to kill themselves by this method of suicide or in general, or (c) similar concerns. This RFC is also not about the sentence beginning "The highest documented suicide jump..."

What this RFC is: This is only about whether the list benefits this article under ordinary Misplaced Pages principles for inclusions of lists of things in articles.

Please weigh in by beginning with Keep or Remove or Other meaning, respectively, Keep the existing list in the article, Remove the existing list from the article and do not replace it without a new future consensus to do so, or Other and explain.

Misplaced Pages talk:Manual of Style/Words to watch

This RfC concerns List of countries and dependencies by population.
This discussion asks 2 questions:
  1. Given that an electronic encyclopedia or gazetteer is a permanent work in progress over longer periods of time, how appropriate is the relative time expression 'today' in the context of this list article.
  2. Depending on the outcome of the opinions to Q1 , should 'today' be replaced by 'as of ', or another suitable explanation that the dates in the table might not be as up-to-date as inferred by the use of 'today'?

Talk:Walt Disney

Should Disney's political affiliations be included in the infobox? The section "World War II and beyond: 1941–1950" explains in several sentences his partisan affiliation and allegiance. Here are some more sources on his political involvement: 1, 2, 3. Disney was lightly involved in Democratic politics, but during The Second World War and the Cold War Disney became known for his conservative and staunchly anti-communist views. His brother Roy, who was also politically active, has his party in his own infobox.

I, personally, do not feel strongly one way or another about including this, but would love to gage other editors' opinions. -- Titi68999 (talk) 17:09, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
