The "Friend Zone" is a concept found in almost all texts geared towards a male audience about "dating advice", or "seduction advice". It states that a woman, upon first meeting a man, is possibly open to having a sexual/dating/romantic relationship with him unless his personality quickly (some say within the first 5 minutes) shows evidence as being suitable not for a sexual partner but only as a friend. In that case, that man would be catagorized in the mind of the woman as being a "friend" rather than a lover, ie. being put into the friend zone. The key element is that, once there, it is almost impossible to get out (ie. it is almost impossible for a woman to change her mind and become sexually attracted to that man).
This is said to be very different from how a male's mind would work, and the assumption on the part of the male that the woman's mind would work the same as his, is cited as the overall problem causing agent in male dating.
Almost all these dating seminars and texts give advice as to how to avoid the friendzone, and advise immediate cessation of contact with a woman who seems to have put you in a friendzone.
It should be noted however, that this advice is part of an overall philosophy shared by this genre of class. The overall philosophy is designed to help a man have sex with women, with a priority on constantly meeting new women. It is often, though not always, less designed to help a man secure a single woman for a steady amount of sex, or to develop what a man might consider to be a "loving relationship". |
