On the morning of 19 December 2024, Adgur Kharazia, MP, ex-mayor of the Abkhazian capital of Sukhumi, opened fire against his political rivals inside the Parliament of Abkhazia before escaping from the scene. Adgur fatally wounded lawmaker Vakhtang Golandzia and injured another, Kan Kvartchia, before escaping.
