Military history of Puerto Rico

Hi there, I believe that I've never had the pleasure of writting to you before. Thank you for your comment on the article. I've added three references to verifiy the stats plus, the reference "Historic Documents of Puerto Rico" backs up the stats pre-1900. I hope that this will help bring the article to featured article status. Please look it over and I will respect your opinion. Your friend in Misplaced Pages Tony the Marine

Did you know?

Did you know has been updated
and a fact from the article Madeleine Pelletier, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you have another interesting fact to submit, then please suggest it at the section's talk page.

Madeleine Pelletier

Hi, I made a few edits to your article Madeleine Pelletier, and fixed some of the translations. I just wanted to thank you for having written such a good article -- I'll be translating it for the French wikipedia soon. --Zantastik 23:12, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

I translated it into French, and had some native speakers correct the errors I made. It's now available in French too, and (thanks to others) it's quite well written French too. --Zantastik 19:58, 24 May 2005 (UTC)

Deleted wrong image

See Special:Undelete/Image:WandhamaMassacre5Jan1998.jpg where you apparently thought the image had been listed on WP:IFD since April 2. Not a big deal though; it was a copyvio anyway. Cheers, dbenbenn | talk 05:43, 24 May 2005 (UTC)

EA Poe FAC

The peer review was removed as I felt the article had addressed the sole concern on the 1st FAC. Then, only one person posted a vote - objecting - and their concern has been addressed. This article is of a standard that I believe entitles it to a full vote. If it fails again, or too many people have problems, I'll leave a PR notice there indefinetely until concerns are addressed. But at the moment, I think it is FA worthy. Harro5 06:41, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

  • Sorry about removing the peer review so soon - I'm still new at the FA/PR process - but I don't know whether to remove the FAC notice now or just let it play out...any advice? Harro5 06:54, May 24, 2005 (UTC)
    • Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to introduce some of this stuff, but I'll also rally the guys who have written much of the stuff on Poe's writing. Might I also ask you to weigh in on this FAC if you want to... Harro5 07:02, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

Thomas Button

I keep seeing messages that I have copied and pasted articles, it is fine that you delete them, I don't log on much, perhaps somebody else is using my log in name? I'm being quite serious about this.

Skyring

I have little confidence in the ArbCom, but if you think it is a useful course of action I have no objection. Adam 05:07, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

While I am confident the Committee can see it through, I think Adam's proposal is superior to an arbitration case, in that his policy is much easier to implement, considerably less time-consuming, less personalized and less stressful on everyone (including Skyring) — after all, none of the items mentioned in the proposal are going to change (ever) unless the Australian constitution is amended or abolished. El_C 06:14, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your comment, nixie. Please see my response to it on my talk page. I suppose one argument is that in order to achieve what I'm envisioning, new Misplaced Pages policy needs to be drafted and approved – but I'm still not convinced this is the case. Either way, I think there is a great deal of improvement to be had, one that stands to increase productivity (to Misplaced Pages) on everyone's part. El_C 07:08, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Regardless, nixie, thanks for taking the time to file the RFAr, and best of luck with it (not that much luck is needed, which is largely my point, but I'll stop now :p). El_C 10:42, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Hi nixie. Just read over the ArbCom case you've brought against Skyring. Although it is sad that such action was at all needed (which it is), such agents provocateurs must suffer the consequences of their actions. However, in your statement you say that a poll had been conducted. This is not so. Jtdirl collected various comments against Skyring's views and listed them - it was in no way a formal poll, in which Wikipedians personnally listed their discontent. Perhaps you might want to rephrase this?--Cyberjunkie 09:59, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for intervening in the issue of Skyring. We need to find a solution, but the options are rapidly running out. He is demonstrably wrong in his facts, is told so by everyone on the page, repeatedly, can't give credible sources to his claims, etc. Hopefully the ArbComm can sort this out. Re the above - I may have worded it badly. I didn't intend it to be a poll. While looking for the evidence of his various inaccuracies in the archives I noticed just how many people had repeatedly, independently, and often with no awareness that others in other archives had said similar, made the same points. I put together a list of the comments, including where possible including the time and date. When I realised people thought an actual vote had taken place I changed the wording to make it clearer that it was simply a summary of past comments. Sorry if I advertently caused some confusion. Confederation page

Hi-

You put the Confederation article under protection about 3 weeks ago, and it has been protected ever since because of an arguement over an issue not central to the article at all, namely whether or not the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was a confederation. Would you consider de-protecting the page? It's not that I am particularly deeply concerned about this article, but it certainly could use major revisions, and I'm worried that it appears the article was locked down and and just "forgetten," since apparently nothing has been done on either your part or the part of the people that had the arguement originally to resolve the conflict. Thanks.

changes to Australia

hi nixie, I followed up on your comments at talk:Australia#Recent changes. clarkk 12:39, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

sorry to pester you about this but this edit appears to introduce some lossage that should be in economy of Australia. clarkk 15:09, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
I fixed it. I suspect all the "sub"-articles, geography of..., economy of... could do with an overhaul and porting of any new text (especially any added or improved text) and any new references added that have been added in the Australia article. clarkk 15:34, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Yep, I saw your reword. Thanks for that. I think it has a good chance of achieving Feature Status. The Politics section is the only one I would still like to do anything to. If I have enough time, I might attempt to change it a bit - it just strikes me as less comprehensive than that of other countries. Thanks again for your efforts.--Cyberjunkie 07:21, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
I agree that a transport section would be un-necessary. As for cuisine, I'll have a look around. I agree that the Culture section would be the place for it to. Actually, I know Clarkk has been involved with the Cuisine of Australia article, so maybe he might have some ideas.--Cyberjunkie 07:34, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
I saw Clarkk's response. Looking back over the history of Cusine of Australia is see that the edits were really only copy-editing and formatting - oops! I just remember seeing his name on a few cuisine pages. I'll try to formalate a short paragraph detailing Australia's cuisine moving from Anglo-Saxon to Modern Australian (fusion cuisine) and a few unique foodstuffs (vegemite, tim-tams, Anzac Biscuits, Pavlova (sorry NZ!)), if time permits. That's what I think such a paragraph could include anyway.--Cyberjunkie 08:08, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
If you have the picture from Tannin, go ahead and put it up for FAC. The section, as it is, is fine - I would still like to work on the politics section in the future, but I haven't enough time to make substantial edits at the moment (for the next month, at least). --Cyberjunkie 06:46, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Rokia Traoré

The article Rokia Traoré was not a speedy deletion candidate the first time it was deleted and probably should not have been deleted again. It was listed on WP:VFU and was undeleted. —Ben Brockert (42) 01:51, May 26, 2005 (UTC)

It's no trouble, really. The undeletion policy requires me to leave these notices when I undelete something. Ben Brockert (42) 02:15, May 26, 2005 (UTC)
The undeletion process WP:VFU is just for a few cases, like when a non-admin notices in the log that an article was deleted and they don't think it should have. Most stuff that gets deleted stays deleted. If an article's author wants their page undeleted, they are supposed to go through VfU. —Ben Brockert (42) 02:25, May 26, 2005 (UTC)

Rovoam

Hey. I set a short term rangeblock for Rovoam. I've been doing so for the past couple of nights. I really haven't come up to speed on him other than to see that he just gets on from a lot of IPs and keeps vandalizing. If you have more history with him, do you think that perhaps it would be advantageous to get the foundation involved to go to his ISP, etc. ? CryptoDerk 06:26, May 26, 2005 (UTC)

Confederation - PLC

Hi, The proposal of DeirYassin is logical. We should include Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth because it was confederation. Thank you. Zivinbudas 06:26, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

Delete Willy on Wheels?

Actually it is unfortunately not possible to delete Willy on Wheels himself, but I am considering putting his entry on WP:VIP up for deletion since I think it gives him precisely the attention he desires. I almost never ask for second opinions before making a VfD nomination, but I am making an exception now because I don't want to wind up having a VfD entry wind up as yet another trophy in WoW's collection. I have put a proposed VfD entry on my userpage (Sjakkalle/WoWVFD). I'm asking you since you are currently logged in and since you have also reverted WoW on that page. Sjakkalle 06:38, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your response, I have added WiC to the list. At your suggestion, I'll bring it to WP:AN first, and put the entry up on VfD later if needed. Sjakkalle 07:03, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
I see that the VfD was an utter failure, even attracting more attention to WoW and WiC. Great pity. And the vandals themselves have already voted keep three times on the page. At least "trophies for vandal hunters" is perhaps a silver lining. Sjakkalle 07:46, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

Prospal

The proposal is acceptable. But i guess in some days Zivinbudas will starting a new edit-war on an other article.. :)--Witkacy 07:42, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

Australia

I've been going through the article looking for spelling and minor errors. I see you are doing the same in much the same order (i.e top to bottom) and we are running into conflicts. I might give you free rein for a while - you'll probably find and fix all the rest anyway! Pete 02:13, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

Skyring RfA

Having participated (sparsely) in this matter I'd like to offer my further help in resolving it. I see the evidence page is empty. Perhaps there's an aspect of the matter that I could research and present? I see the matter being an editor who refuses to recognize a consensus and who is using Misplaced Pages as a soapbox. Anyway, if there's some way I can help without duplicating effort let me know. Thanks for moving this forward. Cheers, -Willmcw 19:34, May 31, 2005 (UTC)

Great, it sounds like you've got it under control. What a way to spend a weekend. Cheers, -Willmcw 23:10, May 31, 2005 (UTC)
If you check Skyring's user contributions you'll see that before Government of Australia he was working on the Governor General of Australia, etc. In fact, this one issue has been the focus of his entire editing career here. Cheers, -Willmcw 06:02, Jun 1, 2005 (UTC)

Problems with Petaholmes' Evidence

I'm quite happy to defend my own statements and edits, but you don't think it's going a little far to attack me for edits that I clearly didn't make?

For instance, you say "Skyring claims that Australia was made a kingdom following federation. Reverted by Lacrimosus, see Talk:Canada for the reasons why this is original research." but shows that User:Gbambino made the claim that Australia is a kingdom. My contribution - my one and only edit to the article occurs with the next edit at where I correctly note that the Australian Constitution was an act of British rather than English law, as it was passed by the British Parliament, England having ceased to exist as an independent country some hundreds of years previously. User:Lacrimosus didn't revert my edit - he altered Gbambino's contribution.

Your mistake, and one you make several times, possibly out of incompetence rather than malice, is that you aren't linking to my edits, but to the edit following mine. Just because I was the last person to touch a page doesn't mean that I wrote every word of that version. In the case of Australian Republicanism my total contribution amounts to four letters, yet you are happy to attack me for a whole paragraph I didn't write!

Be fair, please! Pete 11:42, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Speedy

But Google would (at best — and I'm not convinced that Google is the last word on this) have told me that it might be non-notable, which isn't one of the criteria for speedying. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 15:37, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Well, to be honest, it might have suggested that (it didn't, in fact, but I only performed a search on the name, without any fancy options), but for a speedy deletion the evidence has to be incontrovertible — otherwise a VfD is the right way to go. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:13, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Did you know?

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Louisa Lawson, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Sergei Korolev

Thank you for running your spell checker on the Sergei Korolev page. However I noticed that in a couple of locations it actually introduced errors instead of correcting them. (For example, it changed "man" to "an".) Is this an automated tool that could be fine tuned a little more? :) — RJH 17:08, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Per the manual typos, no problem then. Thanks for the fixes. :) — RJH 22:17, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

DNA

FYI, you protected DNA before the latest vandalism could be reverted, please check the history you'll see that the article is essentially doubled. Thanks! Tufflaw 22:54, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)

Kennan

Good work finding those mistakes. But some of your changes included changing American English spellings to British English. These should be changed back, in order to keep the (American English) spellings consistent throughout the article. 172 00:49, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. I've probably made that mistake myself. Not having a standardized dialect of English on WP can be a bit frustrating at times. 172 01:04, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Women

I think this is a really good idea - Misplaced Pages's coverage in quite a few of the areas you mentioned isn't particularly strong. If you want to set one up, just create the page - you might want to use some of the existing successful WikiProjects (Cryptography and Melbourne are two of the better examples that come to mind) as templates.

When I started my last WikiProject, I went through the histories of a bunch of affected articles, and messaged all those that had made useful contributions and were still active. That could be useful to drag some people in, although this project will be a lot broader. In terms of broader advertising, you might want to put it on Village Pump and Misplaced Pages:Goings-on, and maybe email User:Michael Snow about getting it in the Signpost - that should drag a few more people in.

I've always found that having an active to-do list really helps in getting work done; a lot of people don't really know where to start otherwise. Otherwise, I'm not sure what I can add, but I'm happy to help with getting this going if you need any. Ambi 03:51, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Did you decide not to do anything about this? I'd really like to get it going if you're still interested. Ambi 06:57, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Looking good so far. Might be nice to have a few more categories to work on if you can think of any; else it might be time to move it live. Ambi 06:24, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of images

"Exists on commons" is not a valid criterion for speedy deleting images. As images cannot be undeleted, please be more careful in the future. Your deletion of Image:Birth of Venus.jpg is being contested on Misplaced Pages:Votes for undeletion, and it makes me very unhappy to have to tell the person that A) it shouldn't have been deleted and B) we can't really get it back. -- Cyrius| 04:11, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Law Enforcement in Australia

Hello Petaholmes. I am new to Misplaced Pages but not to my subject of Law. I understand this "User talk" is means to communicate to you. Why reverse my additions to this subject? Have I transgressed some boundary, protocol or group? --202.72.148.102 09:27, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sheriffs & Bailiffs

'Nixie wrote' "I have never heard of Sheriffs and bailiffs existing in the Eastern States."

There is some slight variation in the terminology however Sheriffs and bailiffs do exist in all the "States" however I cannot say that one exists in the ACT (a consitutional creature of Federal Parliament) The oldest continuous Sheriff in Australia is IN NSW. --202.72.148.102 10:53, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The ACT has a Sheriff. The attendants in ACT courts are called "Sheriff's Officers". They perform court-related tasks not requiring a policeman, such as serving documents in civil matters. Check this link. Pete 16:55, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

deletion

User:SimonP is up to his old tricks over templates and categories. He has now proposed deleting Template:Crowns on the template for deletion page. Going by his past antics on Category:Westminster System and Template:Commonwealth Realms he's trying to delete a template that pulls all the articles on the topic together, then he'll start subcategorising all the articles and we'll end up with a complicated, user-unfriendly mess of a category. Your opinions and observations would be welcome. FearÉIREANNFile:Ireland flag large.png\ 21:15, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

demining

I'll have a lot less time, too. I'm not sure how much I'll want to keep working on the encyclopedia after one too many stupid squabbles on articles like nuclear option and geolibertarianism, and after realizing how much time I'd spent online instead of working. If I can figure out a way to budget my time better and stay away from political articles, I'd love to work demining with you. I'll let you know what I decide when I figure it out. Regardless, I really enjoyed working with you and hope that you're able to keep up your work even if I can't.

Thanks for a great time on Myxobolus cerebralis, Dave (talk) 23:23, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

Death and state funeral of Ronald Reagan

I saw that you noted that there needs to be references about the claims of a terrorist attack. It comes from the CNN article about the security at the funeral. The feeling at the LBJ funeral comes from The New York Times, June 10, 2004 editions , as well as news accounts of LBJ's passing about why there was a sense of relief over that passing, like with Reagan's:

"Lyndon B. Johnson's death marks an end to one of the most tragic and divisive chapters in American history."

Thanks for your contributions on Brent Spar. That's a good choice of photo - I hadn't thought of fair use stuff. Anyway, my laptop recently died (something to do with the clock battery overheating and damaging the circut boards :-( ) so my level of contributions have been severely knocked down by this. Hopefully, when I get it back, my Brent Spar notes on the hard disc will still be intact and I'll be able to go through and reference it - it was one of the first "big" things I did, so didn't think about referencing at all... Blocked again?

AOL gives me the following number - 207.200.116.69 - regularly. It also gives this number to vandal(s) who seem to crop up regularly. Please release the block so I can go on with my pottery tree edits. Thank you. WBardwin 05:32, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Well, the following came up when I was trying to edit Cardium Pottery. This odd kind of blocking has happened to me a number of times.

You have attempted to edit a page, either by clicking the "edit this page" tab or by following a red link.

Your user name or IP address has been blocked by Petaholmes.

The reason given is this: Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Jim Bunning's DNA". The reason given for Jim Bunning's DNA's block is: "dna vandal".

You can email Petaholmes or one of the other administrators to discuss the block. If you believe that our blocking policy was violated, you may discuss the block publicly on the WikiEN-l mailing list (http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikien-l). Note that you may not use the "email this user" feature unless you have a Misplaced Pages account and a valid email address registered in your user preferences.

Your IP address is 207.200.116.69. Please include this address in any queries you make.

But I just successfully added my external link to that page -- so it must be fluctuating in some fashion. Perhaps an odd little bug? Sorry to bother you. WBardwin 05:41, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

thank you everybody

I would like to express my thanks to everybody helping in the nomination of Antarctic krill. I think 3 1/2 supports and a long long discussion are an unexpected and great outcome for a critter so remote and unknown - you should see how little and poor Antarctic krill is represented in Encarta and Britannica - this is the best reviewed and resourced general article of krill we know of - it is impossible to fullfill all wishes at the same time - this is what we did with our all product peer review stamp to qualify this stage of the article for academic exercises, especially for our dreams of a Virtual university within Wikiversity - good luck to you all Uwe Kils 21:48, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

Endangered Australian animals

Hi Nixie. I have noticed your excellent work on Australia recently.

It is not me that changed the image licence terms: Misplaced Pages changed the policy. My images are (in general) Creative Commons non-commercial licenced. If Misplaced Pages wants to use them, that's great. If Misplaced Pages doesn't want to use them because of the new licence policy, well, that's fine too. They are not licenced for commercial use, especially not by rip-off wikiclone sites.

Yes, I think a list of endangered Australian animals would be a good idea. Also, a list of rare and endangered EVCs. Hmmm ... red link. Obviously, we don't have an article about Ecological Vegetation Classes yet. There is another job that needs doing. My ability to contribute more than minor edits these days is restricted, but I'll have a crack at one or the other if I can find the time at some stage.

Best regards,

By the way, I was wondering what your opinion was on the cell (biology) article. I noticed you had done some work on it. If you take a look at the talk page, you can see some issues I brought up. I know that some of them are somewhat related to your field of study, so I thought you'd be a great person to deal with it. The article is pretty good, if very basic, and I thought that it would be a good enough resource for those with little biology background that it may be featurable if it's improved. Tourist photo of Australia

I put up this one a couple days ago. It was taken last weekend near Naracoorte, South Australia with autumn grapevines and the plains stretching towards the coast. Unfortunately, the horizon doesn't look quite level in it. Most of my other photos uploaded are at User:ScottDavis/Images. --ScottDavis 06:08, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
