The following is a list of sovereign countries that have recognized, or taken a position on the recognition of, the Republic of Kosovo after it declared its independence in 2008.

Slovenia, the current holder of the rotating Presidency of the European Union, urged other nations to act diplomatically and without violence.
Malta and 
Portugal are waiting until after the United Nations Security Council's decision.
International Organizations
UN: It is expected that Russia's refusal to recognize Kosovo will prevent Kosovo from attaining a seat at the UN due to the fact Kosovo must get approval from all five permanent members of the Security Council, Russia being one of the permanent members.
