I am curious to know whose life you were guarding when you reverted my edits up to: |

I was reading up on the early history of commercial oil production and was slowly piecing together the picture when I came upon this page. The page is a fascinating link to a little known, but important, phase in the early history of oil production. |

One of the things I did, and which you judged of no value, was to fix (after a detailed Internet search) the (otherwise broken) link(s) to the site of the title; a well constructed site which appears to offer important information in English, and in a structured way. |

The other thing I did was to create links to the many place names cited on this page. I am not quite sure why you decided to effectively treat this as if it were vandalism. I went to considerable trouble, cross-referencing with maps and other sources, to point these place names at appropriate links. I did this because I wanted to see where these places were, and whether they contained more information on the subject. What I did was completely valid and strongly in the spirit of Misplaced Pages. The fact that most of the links have (as yet) no further reference to oil is neither here nor there. The fact is that these were, apparently, important places in the early history of oil and people may well wish to find out more about them directly. |

Many of these links led to disambiguation pages. I signalled this with a parenthesised (which?) in the hopes that others, closer to the places involved, might be stimulated to disambiguate for the rest of us. Is this wrong in the context of Misplaced Pages? |

I consider what you have done to be wrong, and against the spirit of Misplaced Pages. I have not reverted your edit. I have decided to try reason first, and to leave it up to you to revert your own heavy handed edit. |

I do not know where you stand in the self-appointed hierarchy of Misplaced Pages, but if you do not reverse what appears an arbitrary reversal with no significant justification I will be forced to draw your behaviour to the attention of others in the Misplaced Pages contributor space. |

If you do in fact represent the current Misplaced Pages philosophy then I am tremendously disappointed, as I have been an enthusiastic advocate for Misplaced Pages since I discovered it some 4 years ago, and a careful and serious editor of a number of important pages, the edits of which have now stood for long periods of time. |

I think you should reconsider your position before I have to take this public. |
