Joe Budden

Joseph Anthony Budden II (born August 31, 1980, in Harlem, New York), better known by his stage name, Joe Budden, is an American rapper.

Early life

Joe Budden was born in Spanish Harlem, Harlem, New York, and was raised in Queens. At the age of 11, Budden moved to New Jersey, and as he came of age across the Hudson River in Jersey City, he proudly reps New Jersey in his rhymes, despite its somewhat unsavory reputation compared to more traditional hip-hop breeding grounds like Harlem, Brooklyn, the South Bronx, and Queensbridge. Budden experienced troubled teenage years that included his addiction to Angel Dust (Phencyclidine), a drug battle that almost cost him his life. He won his fight against drugs, cleaned himself up, and firmly set his sights only on hip hop. The middle child of 3 boys, Joe heard music in his home, (his dad is a multi instrumentalist), and on the streets. He absorbed the songs of old school legends like Rakim, Kool G Rap, Krs-One, and Queen’s natives Run DMC and LL Cool J and by the time he turned 16 Joe had decided to take his love of hip hop and his burgeoning skills to another level. "I went on a total rampage in my area. If there was a cipher on the corner, or a show, I was there. After a while it became common knowledge in my neighborhood that I was aiight and my confidence grew". So much so that Joe started hitting local studios and getting on mixtapes, doing it for the love and as means of expression.

Music career

His debut solo studio album release was the self titled Joe Budden. The album included Budden's 2003 summer hit "Pump It Up", which was also featured in the soundtrack for the movie 2 Fast 2 Furious video game Def Jam Vendetta. The song "Focus" was also featured in the game and Joe Budden was also a character. Its second single was "Fire" featuring Busta Rhymes. The song "Drop Drop" was featured on the soundtrack for the movie Cradle 2 the Grave. The album debuted at #8 on the ] and gave Budden his only top 40 single, Pump It Up

In 2004, Budden began work on his second album, titled The Growth. However, it suffered numerous delays, leading fans to speculate that the album was in some sort of development hell, though he and Def Jam, denied this. It was later confirmed that The Growth was canceled by Def Jam and Joe has since gotten a deal with Amalgam Digital. Budden's apparently deteriorating relationship with Def Jam's president, Jay-Z, may have contributed to the delays.

With his second studio album delayed, Budden kept to the streets with a series of mixtapes called Mood Muzik. Budden deeply respects and admires Antonio E. Legarda, a long time business partner.

In the song "Roc Cafe," featuring verses by Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel, with a sample of Jay-Z during the chorus, Dame Dash announces that Joe Budden is officially signed to Roc-A-Fella Records. This song was released in 2005, just before Jay-Z left Roc-A-Fella for Def Jam.

In 2008, Mood Muzik 3: For Better or for Worse was released under the name Mood Muzik 3: The Album. The tape was meant to serve as a prelude to his second album, entitled Padded Room. Due to complications with the physical product, Padded Room has been pushed back from October 28, 2008 to February 24, 2009.

Until then, Joe Budden and Amalgam Digital decided to release Halfway House, a digital-only album, on October 28, 2008 as a prequel to the album. This is the first digital-only hip-hop release employing both traditional marketing methods (commercial radio, video, advertising campaigns, etc.) and new media viral marketing initiatives. The album is released exclusively in digital format.

Joe Budden plans to release an album entitled "R.E.D.I." (the acronym of Realest to Ever Do It) by the end of the year.
