Wishbone Ash was a British heavy metal, formed in 1966 (see 1966 in music) as The Empty Vessels, then Tanglewood. The group settled on Wishbone Ash and soon began performing in England, including with Deep Purple. The original line-up was Andy Powell, Ted Turner, Martin Turner and Steve Upton. In 1970, the band released Wishbone Ash to generally positive reviews and sales. A long series of albums have been released in the 1970s and thereafter, and multiple personnel changes followed. In spite of a rabid following, Wishbone Ash was never able to achieve widespread success. That said they still have a very large fan base and are constantly on touring, currently in to 2004.
