The 1993 European Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Donington Park on April 11, 1993. It was the third round of the 1993 Formula One season. The race was notable for the dominance of Ayrton Senna.
Starting in full rain, Senna dropped to fifth place at the start, and then proceeded to pass four cars including three past and future Formula One champions (Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill) in the first lap to take the lead by the end of the opening lap. The weather conditions changed several times during the race. By the end, Senna had lapped the entire field except for one car and finished over a minute ahead of second place Damon Hill.

Notes
- Fastest lap: Ayrton Senna - 1:18.029 on lap 57. This lap time was achieved when Senna drove into the pitlane but aborted the pit stop, showing that there actually was a shortcut through the pitlane. This is due to the grand prix configuration of Donington, which has the pit entry before the final hairpin corner onto the start/finish straight. This is possibly the only fastest lap in modern F1 history set by driving through the pitlane. Pitlane speed limits were introduced a year later.
- Senna briefly ran 5th off the start, but was leading by the end of the first lap. In wet-dry conditions he made four pit stops compared to Alain Prost's seven. Many say this was Senna's greatest drive, but he dismissed this, saying it was "easy" because of traction control.
- Barrichello started 12th, but was 4th at the end of the first lap. He was on course to finish on the podium, but a fuel problem ended that possibility.
- Johnny Herbert and Lotus showed their remarkable skills in race strategy. While all finishing drivers stopped in the pits several times, Herbert only made one pit stop which earned him a good finish in 4th.
- The sponsors for this race were Sega (title sponsor), Campari, Vauxhall, Agip, Marlboro, Olivetti, TAG Heuer and Foster's. As a result of Sega's sponsorship, a huge balloon and billboards featuring the company mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog, were around Donington Park. Senna was awarded a statue of Sonic holding a golden trophy.
