Clifton H. W. Maloney was an American businessman and mountain climber

Early life

Maloney was Navy veteran. He graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Business School. Maloney also was a serious athlete and adventurer.

Career

Clifton founded the investment company C.H.W. Maloney & Co., Inc. in 1981. He was also the company's president. Maloney was a vice president at Goldman Sachs in charge of investment banking. Maloney was a multi-millionaire and was also director at Chromium Industries, Inc. and The Wall Street Fund .

Personal life

Maloney was married to Carolyn Maloney, a United States Representative from New York, since 1976. Together, they have two daughters: Christine Maloney and Virginia Maloney.

Mountain climbing and death

In 2009, at the age of 71, Maloney summited the 27,000 foot peak of Cho Oyu, the world's sixth-highest mountain, in Tibet. With the help of a sherpa and a guide, Maloney reached the summit of the "Green Goddess" as the mountain was known on Sep 24, 2009. He descended to the base camp at 23,000 feet. On the morning of Sep 25, 2009 he woke up and told a companion "I'm the happiest man in the world -- I have just climbed a beautiful mountain". These bacame his last known words as he went back to sleep and never woke up.
