Lubrication
Speaking of lubrication, I'm sipping a mimosa while trying to educate with the carrot, rather than the stick. I need another mimosa! -- Flyguy649 17:49, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Wrong warning, maybe?
I noticed that you posted a generic warning on a user's talk page for vandalizing their own talk page. Reverting was correct, but I think it required something along the lines of blanking talk pages does not get rid of the warnings. Might be something useful to remember next time. Also, for technical reasons, the link to their talk page was also disabled because the viewer is already on the page. mechamind90 18:34, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Your comment is interesting: I assumed he was an well-meaning child with no real idea of what WP is about, and was sighing (well, am still sighing) at the prospect of going through his edits and trying to explain what he was doing wrong. I will bear in mind what you say. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:01, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi HalfShadow, and thanks for your report of Dcatmusic to WP:UAA. I wanted to ask you if you could, in the future, place an appropriate {{db}} tag on spam pages rather than simply blanking them. You think I made up those titles?!!
ExCUSE me. Those titles were copied directly off tvguide.ca. I did not invent them. There will eventually be entries on those episodes, and you will kindly tell me the gross, deadly harm that is done by listing the titles pending the filling out of the details on those episodes.
If you don't believe me, then go to www.tvguide.ca, do a search on Backyardigans and you will see those episodes as coming up in the next 14 days.
There's a link right to the information I saw, (though of course, updated since that date).
I expect you to tell me why you think those upcoming episodes should not at least have their titles listed. GBC (talk) 14:55, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

You wrote that "I've always felt identified school-IPs should be soft-blocked on sight." I agree. Has this been proposed before? If not, we could give a go at getting approval for this, schools are responsible for a lot of the more nasty vandalism. Fences&Windows 23:17, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
University of Perpetual Help System DALTA
Had to kill your CSD, I'm afraid. Web Archive shows that the site http://www.perpetualdalta.edu.ph does not appear until Mid 2006, and part of that data was already on the Misplaced Pages page, and it looks like the http://www.perpetualdalta.edu.ph in its current version did not appear on the web until at least 2008, when most of the Misplaced Pages page was already written - hard to guess an exact date as the actual web page has never been archived - may be because it's less than 6 months old - so for now I had to use the root page - http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.perpetualdalta.edu.ph. I may be wrong, it's always hard to check for copyvio on long established pages Ronhjones 23:41, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Blocked for one week
I am blocking you for a week for unacceptable editing in regard to our biographies of living people.
I came to have strong words with you about this unacceptable edit, only to find you edit waring to keep unflattering images of this subject.
You may return to editing when the block expires, but consider yourself banned from editing that particular biography.--Scott Mac 18:53, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

I beg your pardon? I edited the page once; I added a picture that was a great deal better than the one that was there, which had only been removed because it was 'unflattering'. I neither 'edit wared' (sic), nor was the picture I used 'unflattering'. If anything, the picture I used was perfect for the article; a simple facial shot: http://www.bleedingcool.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/don.jpg Not only expect to be unblocked, but an apology on your part would not be undue. What about addressing the disturbing comment on AN/I? Aiken ♫ 19:29, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- I admit that was just a joke on my behalf and can see how that could be miscontrued. The problem with the previous picture was that it was 'silly', so I tried to find a better picture for the article. I fail to see how the picture I used could be considered bad. I mean look at it; it's a simple head shot. I'm at a loss here. I've done nothing wrong. HalfShadow 19:32, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- Quite. The image was certainly not very flattering. That's not blockable. However, given the subject had (and you knew) already objected to a similar image, your action was provocative. You comments on ANI made assuming your good faith quite impossible. You were evidently misusing wikipedia to troll a living person. That brings Misplaced Pages into disrepute on top of everything else.--Scott Mac 19:32, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- The main objection to the image (as far as I was aware), was that he looked foolish. The picture I used was flattering, practically complimentary. I reiterate: I've done nothing to deserve a block, much less for a week. HalfShadow 19:35, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- You are honestly asking for us to assume that your upload was in good faith, after your remarks on ANI? Incredible.--Scott Mac 19:37, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- I promise it was. The only one assuming bad faith here is you. Nothing suggested that no picture was allowed, just that the previous one was no good.HalfShadow 19:38, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

If I had reverted to the previous picture, then you'd have a point. I added a perfectly acceptable picture (and again, I fail to see how there is a problem with the pic I used) and you're simply using my previous comment as an excuse. There is general greement at WP:ANI#HalfShadow blocked for BLP violations on Don Murphy that this block is correct. Moreover, your upload of File:DonMurphy.jpg (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) appears to be in violation of copyright, and if as you say below "the whole copyright status thing defies me", it might be more prudent to block you indefinitely to prevent you from violating copyright again. - What is the copyright status of the picture you uploaded? Off2riorob (talk) 19:50, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- To be honest, I don't know; I haven't added many images to the site, the whole copyright status thing defies me. I wasn't being 'vindictive' or 'trolling' (despite my previous comment), I was simply adding a picture to the article that was better than the previous one. HalfShadow 19:51, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- Simply put: I haven't done anything wrong. All I did was add a complimentary picture and it's been blown hugely out of proportion. I promise my intent was not vindictive. HalfShadow 19:56, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- As an uninvolved user, I just took a look at the problematic edit at ANI, and I'm sorry to have to say that this block is justified. Regardless of the copyright status of the picture in question, your comment at ANI clearly gave the impression that there was malicious intent with regards to your attempted image addition. If that comment had indeed been intended as some sort of "joke", it was definitely an inappropriate one. --SoCalSuperEagle (talk) 19:58, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- See that is what I don't understand.. you said this .. "We should put the image back, just to piss him off. Murphy's funny when he's all worked up". - There are a few interrelated problems here, that collectively illustrate some very poor recent judgement on your part. Ultimately, that's where the week-long block comes from. Look at the order of events.
- Someone posts to AN/I, reporting off-wiki harrassment coming from a BLP subject, regarding an image dispute on an article.
- Your first response was to decide it would be amusing to tweak the BLP subject (encouraging further harrassment by the subject, possibly of a completely uninvolved third party) purely for our own amusement. After all, he's "funny when he's all worked up".
- Your second step was to go and find another image of the article subject, and insert it into the article. Despite being aware that there was an ongoing conflict, you didn't use the article's talk page, you didn't seek any comment or advice in the extant AN/I discussion, and you didn't even use an edit summary when you added the new picture to the article.
- You don't know anything about the image's copyright status, and you made no effort to find out about either your image's copyright. It's already been deleted as a copyright violation. It's been the better part of three years since your last image upload; why would you decide that now – in the middle of a serious, real-life dispute, with the potential to result in all kinds of negative outcomes – would be a good time to get back into it?
- You've been editing Misplaced Pages for more than four years — by now, you ought to have an appreciation that while Misplaced Pages tends to be a pretty flexible and forgiving place, there are two areas which tend to prompt very rapid, strict enforcement: biographies of living persons, and copyright violations. You chose to jump on both of those at once, and the attitude in your first unblock request – the notion that Scott MacDonald somehow owes you an apology – and in subsequent comments suggests that you haven't firmly grasped how badly you screwed up. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 20:58, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- Excellent summary of the issues, ToaT. Endorse decline, until and unless the user gives evidence of understanding what the real issue is. So far they do not. Misplaced Pages is not a revenge platform. And sometimes it's best not to even joke around in a way that might leave the impression that one thinks it is. ++Lar: t/c 21:04, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- I just have to note that HalfShadow is at least familiar enough with image copyright to have tagged an image for F9 in January 2010. It seems implausible given this that he would think at this juncture he can just grab an image he finds on the internet. --Moonriddengirl 21:06, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- With this, the excuse that he knows nothing about copyright is very confusing. Aiken ♫ 21:08, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I am not letting that one pass.
To quote Silver_seren (talk · contribs): "It is clear that he was not just being funny because he did put the photo back in..." Only I didn't. I never put any photo 'back in'. I posted a single photo once. And I stand by my statement concerning trademark; the last time I downloaded a photo the site used a completely different system. I'm not entirely sure how to insert the proper info using the system as it is now. I freely admit that was an error on my part; I've downloaded something like six pictures ever. Simply put, I'm not sure how to make sure the 'proper' copyright info is there.HalfShadow 23:11, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with HalfShadow. He didn't know copyright stuff and besides it was good to piss off the guy with another photo. HS is a funny guy and likes to add a little excitement on the AN/I board about problems other editors have. He should not get a block for that. Please unblock him now. 68.28.104.232 (talk) 23:24, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
