Larry Lee was a long time friend of Jimi Hendrix and eventually joined Hendrix's new band Gypsy Sun and the Rainbows as rhythm guitar player. The newly formed band played the Woodstock Music Festival at which jimi Hendrix played his legendary version of the Star Spangled Banner. Lee prefered to play a Gibson Les Paul guitar.
