{{cquote|''Hotel de Love'' is a pleasant and sometimes funny film, without being completely satisfying. It is too twee. Stephen Holden of the New York Times called it an "enjoyably ditsy romantic comedy" and "an enlightened 1990s version of a French farce."
Other reviewers were much harsher. From Bruce Walker of the '']'':
{{cquote|This is billed as a romantic comedy, but it’s much more boring than funny... If you’ve ever seen a (s)he’s-marrying-the-wrong-person movie, then you know it’s not a matter of if, but of when the wedding will stop and the proper couple will pair up. That’s pretty much how I felt about this movie -- not if it would end but when.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/longterm/movies/review97/hoteldelovewalker.htm |title='Hotel de Love' |publisher=WashingtonPost.com |date=1997-02-21 |accessdate=2011-08-01}}</ref>}}
