JiE Matar was born in Beirut. As a young boy during the civil war, he left to live in other countries such as Cyprus, Turkey and France. At a young age he fulfilled a dream of his by living and studying fashion and hair in Paris. His interest in hair started early on when he styled his sister’s ‘Barbie Doll’ for the first time.

“Every client becomes my ‘Barbie Doll’ when they sit in my chair” The romance he had with Paris, was everything to JiE. But soon after, he moved on to live in Africa where he continued his journey. Then shortly after arriving in Toronto in the early 1990’s, JiE launched his own salon and his ‘JiE Necessities’ brand. Word spread about his transformations and women and men began to speak of being “JiE-i-fied!!”

Names of Toronto celebrities, film festival stars, and politicians were soon added to the European rolodex. Next came New York City where JiE built his second salon. He quickly involved himself with Fashion Week New York, and editorials with top photographers. His ambition and his exceptional talent earned JiE the title “God of Hair”. A media favorite, JiE has been featured in several international publications. JiE has contributed to the styles and likes of such celebrities as Nelly Furtado, Pamela Anderson, Tori Spelling, Kim Cattrall, Paul McCartney, Ivana Trump and more!

JiE’s amazing resume also includes a hit reality make-over show called “Sexy Girl”, which has played in 17 different cities worldwide. He is currently developing a new television series called “JiE-i-fied”. JiE’s interests in history, architecture, music, and fashion assist in his creative approach to hair designs for his clients. Being a connoisseur and interested in different cultures allows JiE to create “intelligent” hair.

Today, JiE romances hair at his exclusive boutique salon ‘JiE PRIVÉ’ with its Parisian influenced décor in Toronto’s upscale Yorkville district.

“I have visited many countries and have lived on four continents. This has allowed the world to be my city! I dress hair”.

  • Arnold Butlers Career - Inspired by an aircraft flyover, an otherwise rare event at Arnold's Portsmouth, New Hampshire home, it was not long after the beginning of his career as a mechanic for a Ford dealership that his interest turned towards aviation. Pursuing his apprenticeship at Granite State Airport, that as a student pilot he would fly his first solo on May 23, 1935 and eventually would become a flight instructor. Later on, in a partnership with Carl Parks, a Naval Academy graduate, Arnold and Carl Parks owned and operated Granite State Airways until the U.S. Government federalized the airport for the war effort in 1941.

After the government took possession of the airport, Arnold moved to Groton, Massachusetts where he continued on as a civilian flight instructor for the U. S. Army Air Corp.. It was during these years that he was approached by a young Alan Shepherd who asked if there was anything he could do for an airplane ride. After Arnold put the young Shepherd to work cleaning out an aircraft hanger, that he gave Alan Shepherd his first flying lesson. Years later, Arnold received a plaque from Astronaut Alan Shepherd commemorating his inspirational act. After the end of WWII, with the development of the Interstate Highway system, Arnold realized that it would not belong before the Daniel-Webster Airport would be forgotten in time. In 1945, he relocated his fleet of aircraft to Hollywood, Florida where he spent the remaining years of his career as the Industry leader and pioneer and innovator of banner towing under his business name Circle Aviation. After his retirement in 1970, he passed the business down to his son James Butler. Personal: Besides inspiring Astronaut Alan Shepherd and countless of military and civilian students he instructed, his interest in aviation has continued down through the generations influencing two of his siblings, Edmund Sidney Butler (d. 2012) an MIT graduate and retired Captain for Delta Airlines and Joanne Golding who as a private pilot managed the business offices of a flight school at Detroit City Airport. Additionally, Percy Lister (d. 2010) and Gaylord Golding (d.209) , his brother-in-laws, James Butler and James Butler Jr. His son and grandson, as well as Lynn (Golding) Seppi and Gary Golding, his niece and nephew, all owe their roots as pilots to Arnold Butler.Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).
