WP:MMA

Thanks for helping to make MMA articles on wikipedia better! In September 168 people made a total of 956 edits to MMA articles. I noticed you haven't listed yourself on the WikiProject Mixed martial arts Participants page. Take a look, sign up, and don't forget to say hi on the talk page.

Your recent edits

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Misplaced Pages pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 03:43, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

OK, cool. Wasn't sure how to do that.

Verifiability

Hello. I see you know a lot about submission and moves used in MMA fights. I agree with everything you say. But Misplaced Pages is not original research, is about verifiability. If a reliable source says it was an Americana, put americana. Thanks for your edits.
LlamaAl (talk) 16:49, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

That isn't a problem. The same person giving me a hard time about that didn't seem to care that somebody else was changing rear naked choke to a neck crank. It was almost as if he was hating on me or being BJJ biased.

Fixing damage from vandals

I'm looking for an easier way to revert back to the original edits to fix vandal edits if anybody can fill me in. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Willdawg111 (talkcontribs) 14:54, 10 November 2012‎ (UTC)

When editing MMA event articles, like UFC 154, please make sure the results table follow the same design as other events. Look at UFC 153 for instance. Your edits changed the column of judge scores, and those edits were reverted I think. Click "View history" on the article to see more info. Anyway, thanks for contributing to the MMA project! Oskar Liljeblad (talk) 18:04, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
I see the what you are talking about. That will make it easier to undo the vandalsim to my work. Thank you very much.

I feel you

Yeah I feel you. All we can do is protect our favorites. I've been sprucing up the WFA king of the streets aricle on here for the day it gets an AFD. What do you think WFA:_King_of_the_Streets? Eh, and at least Imperial Athletics is here to stay! they had articles on Sherdog I remember reading. I'd be shocked if they got that one. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 09:23, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Personally, I would say with the notariety of some of the guys fighitng on that card, it really needs to stay. It might be worth considering putting all 4 of the events they held onto a single page like we do with the Bellator season. The Imperial Athletics was actually on the list to be done for awhile, so I took it upon myself to tackle it. One of my biggest issues is it seems like there are primarily 2 guys who go around trying to change up other people's work and trying to get things deleted. I was on Sherdogg looking around and they had a couple threads started absolutely trashing these 2 guys. They were being brutal, even putting up pictures of homer simpson saying they had to be a couple guys sitting around with nothing else to do. If that many people from the MMA community use these articles, I think we need to work on making them better and not trying to delete everthing. Willdawg111 (talk) 12:27, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages has policies and guidelines and all articles within must meet them. The main concern in the MMA biographical articles is WP:NMMA. This is the main standard that all MMA fighters articles should meet. So, before making an article about a fighter, check out that guideline and WP:GNG. I can give an example of what is happening to me now: Brock Jardine was an article created by me and now is up to AfD. Unfortunately, it doesn't meet the criteria now, but i plan to restore it (per WP:REFUND) if it meets WP:NMMA later. So, don't worry about articles being deleted, since they can be restored (you may also wish to read: Misplaced Pages:Too soon and Misplaced Pages:Recentism). Regards — Poison Whiskey 16:10, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. I'll check those out and if it helps out any, I was already in the discussion log for the deletion of your article voicing my opinion as to why it should be kept. Willdawg111 (talk) 16:35, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
I am going to start writing an essay to cite, maybe something like WP:TUF, whenever TUF guys who can pass the WP:GNG are nominated afd. You made a really good point about the athletic commissions involement and that link with "If the athletic commission say he made weight" is gold. It'll be tagged with some nice stuff including Din thomas as an example of would could possibly happen in a TUF scenario that was fly-by-night in Nevada. It is riduculous to have to keep arguing with the same people about the same stuff. I'd love to just point to a succint essay on the TUF matter. I'll post a draft to the main page in a few days probably. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 08:10, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
What would be awesome is if you could locate some sources of people getting busted for holding illegal fights. Like what happened to Din Thomas. That'd be great to use in what I'm planning. Ones that specifically mention the athletic commission getting angry and moving on them would be best. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 23:23, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
I'll see what I can come up with. A lot of these were happening before states started sanctioning ammy MMA. I know there was an incident in NC about a year and a half ago where somebody was trying to do an event without getting it sanctioned to avoid all the medical insurance requirements but I don't know how close it came to actually happening. One of the managers I know is very protective of his guys and called the state to verify medical insurance coverage and caused the promoter to get busted for not filing for sanctioning. I'll go back and see if they stopped him before or after the event. Most of them are probably going to be older though, I don't think too many promoters are putting on smokers anymore and if they are, they aren't very public with them anymore.Willdawg111 (talk) 23:41, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
Yeah the one fight I had was totally underground/smoker and they told me to weight in at 145. They actually got ran out of one city and had to set up in a neighboring. This was in Washington which only recently started regulating amateur mma. But my opponent was told to weigh in at 155. BS. Anyway I think I have the bulk of the essay done on my userspace page. Tell what you think, or of other solid arguements I can make. I'd be sweet to keep pushing it and get an addenum added to the sports guidlines page where mma requirements are listed. Ima add the little {WP:TUF thing. If you are able to and know how you are more than welcome to edit my userspace to add the little quick go to thing or to fix the bare urls. I'll eventually get around to it. I just want you to take a look before I start waving it around at peopleWP:NMMA requirements. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 07:34, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
I gave it a whirl. I got the shortcut on there but the redirect part I messed up somehow. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 22:19, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Fatih Kocamis

Done - In the future, use {{afd top}} and {{afd bottom}} to close non-controversial AfD's. These templates should always be substituted. Regards. --LlamaAl (talk) 16:38, 22 December 2012 (UTC) I'm have never suggested deleting any article, so this is brand new to me, still trying to figure it out. By the looks of it, I didn't even suggest it properly, so any help and inside info would be appreciated. Willdawg111 (talk) 16:43, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

I recommend you to use Twinkle. It makes the AfD proccess very easy. --LlamaAl (talk) 16:44, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

AfD Submissions

Your AfD submissions are coming out a little strange - please read the How to nominate a single page for deletion on the Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion. Right now they are not titled or added to the log page. A wee bit complicated I know (you are not the first or the last) and if not done right the notifications to other interested parties gets messed up. Ask if you need help. Cheers.Peter Rehse (talk) 05:40, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Good luck in the future

JonnyBonesJones (talk · contribs) has been blocked indefinitely. See WP:ANI#JonnyBonesJones. Regards. --LlamaAl (talk) 23:15, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Since he is banned I think you can strikeout/delete all his other comments? What about his afds? PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 19:06, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

I was wondering the same thing. I was wondering if we could go through them and close them out. Not sure how that works.Willdawg111 (talk) 19:08, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Julian 'Nitrane' Lane

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Julian 'Nitrane' Lane, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. LlamaAl (talk) 19:26, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

you should explain everything succinctly and eloquently to the blackkite admin fella who deleted it. Then if that doesn't work use the appeal process. i dropped you a note on my talk page. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 21:57, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

PortlandOregon97217 (talk · contribs)

Hi there. I don't believe we met. Let me just apologize in advance for the somewhat brusque message I've just left at User talk:PortlandOregon97217#Removal of comments and Afd from a banned user. I assure you that I have nothing against you personally, but I'm worried that if PO heeds your advice, he'll get himself blocked. So please forgive me if I've offended you in any way, but I really felt I needed to make it clear that your comment did not negate Bwilkins' warning. Discrediting your remarks seemed like the least of all possible evils. — Francophonie&Androphilie 06:00, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

I think you interpreted what I was saying wrong. I was actually trying to do the opposite. Just in case he took it the same way that you did, I went back and clarified it.Willdawg111 (talk) 08:00, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for clearing that up. There's a fine line between a "there, there" to an editor on thin ice, and an endorsement of their actions; I'm glad to see you're on the right side of that line. Incidentally, you might want to check out WP:AN#personal attack, as it's about a response to the barnstar you left Portland. Even more incidentally, it's always nice to meet another editor in good standing who's been blocked - this userbox might amuse you. — Francophonie&Androphilie 01:17, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
I can't figure out what that was. People are giving out barnstars to editors that are having to be permantly banned, so I really don't understand why there is an issue with me wanting to recognize somebody who I believe is working for the best interest of the project. Willdawg111 (talk) 01:55, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
I agree, he's doing a good job with WP:TUF, but it was too early to give out a barnstar IMO. Regards. --LlamaAl (talk) 02:00, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
I think he is working hard to help move the project in a positive direction. There are a couple barnstars I've noticed given to people who I think in no way shape or form deserves it also, but I was respectful and stayed out of it. Willdawg111 (talk) 02:06, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
I guess you are talking about JonnyBonesJones (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). He was fair and helpful before November. I will remove that barnstar. --LlamaAl (talk) 02:10, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
There was more than one that I had in mind, but really I don't care about that. It's somebodies personal opinion how good of job somebody else is doing, and it's none of my business. I'm really at the point, that I just want all the BS to stop, and want to try to build a good reference for people to rely on for MMA information. If I wanted to argue MMA I would go hang out on the forums. Can we just find a happy medium on issues, something that everybody can live with and will make everybody satisfied?Willdawg111 (talk) 02:47, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
