Benjamin Netanyahu (born 1949) was the 13th Prime Minister of Israel. A member of the right-of-center Likud party, he was Prime Minister from April 1996 to May 1999. Although as P.M. he has negotiated with Arafat (in the form Wye accords), he no longer supports the concept of a future Palestinian state based on the PLO.

After being defeated by Ehud Barak in the 1999 Israeli general elections, Netanyahu temporarily retired from politics.
