"Do or Die"
Song

"Do or Die" is a song recorded by American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars and written by lead vocalist Jared Leto for the band's fourth studio album Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams. The song appears as the ninth track on the album. It will be released as the second single from Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams on September 9, 2013.

Live performances

"Do or Die" was first performed at the Church of Mars concerts in May 2013, shortly before the release of the album. The song later became a signature part of the opening stages of the Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams Tour which followed, usually appearing as the penultimate song before "Up in the Air". However, after the festival tour in June, which saw the band travel to Rock am Ring and Rock im Park for the first time as headline act, the song was moved to the middle of the setlist, usually played before Jared's acoustic B-stage set.

Music video

The official music video for the song, directed by Jared Leto under the alias Bartholomew Cubbins, was released on YouTube on August 5, 2013. It was filmed in the summer of 2013, during the European leg of Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams Tour, and features interviews with members of the Echelon. James Montgomery of MTV described the video as "a love-letter to the band's fans, and a document of life on the road." He also added that it is "the spiritual sequel to their stirring 2010 live clip for "Closer to the Edge."

In a note accompanying the video on YouTube, Jared Leto wrote:

"I'm sitting in the dark writing this having just finished this little film and although I don't feel quite done yet it's time to let it go.

This is a story about an incredible adventure that we all shared together this summer. A summer that we will never forget. It's also a reminder (for myself as well) to LIVE LIFE NO MATTER WHAT. But ultimately it's a love letter to you all. The believers.

Even before I started shooting I thought of it as a companion piece to "Closer To The Edge", a sequel of sorts, the next chapter. I knew it had to be special as "Closer" is held in such high regard by you all."
