This is a WikiProject, an area for focused collaboration among Wikipedians. New participants are welcome; please feel free to participate! Guide to WikiProjects Directory of WikiProjects

Some Wikipedians have formed a project to create a workable system for Deletion sorting, which has evolved into a complementary way of organizing deletion discussions (e.g. they are organized into topical lists in addition to their normal organization by date alone).

To help this project, please add new AFD discussions to one of the current list of deletion categories. For more information on WikiProjects, please see Misplaced Pages:WikiProjects and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject best practices.

It must be noted that WikiProject Deletion sorting pages may not be used in violation of the advertising and soliciting meatpuppets policy which states:

Do not recruit meatpuppets. It is considered highly inappropriate to advertise Misplaced Pages articles to your friends, family members, or communities of people who agree with you for the purpose of coming to Misplaced Pages and supporting your side of a debate. If you feel that a debate is ignoring your voice, then the appropriate action is to remain civil, seek comments and involvement from other Wikipedians, or pursue dispute resolution. These are well-tested processes, designed to avoid the problem of exchanging bias in one direction for bias in another.

User Study

Would you be interested in participating in a user study? We are a team at University of Washington studying methods for finding collaborators within a Misplaced Pages community. We are looking for volunteers to evaluate a new visualization tool. All you need to do is to prepare for your laptop/desktop, web camera, microphone, and speaker for video communication with Google Hangout. Scope

This project involves transcluding AFD discussions in category specific pages, that makes it easier for people find a topic they have knowledge and interest in. In the past, and still in most cases presently, these discussions are organized solely by date. At one time this level of structure was adequate, because there were sufficiently few deletions that a person could review most of them on a daily basis while still contributing as a Wikipedian. However, Articles for deletion has grown far beyond human scale, with a throughput now approaching 1,000 pages per week and rising quickly. This has the effect of separating deletion debates from the healthy process of encyclopedia-building. It is hoped that a workable system for categorized deletion, which will bring deletion debates to the attention of editors active in relevant topical areas, will alleviate these problems.

Inspiration

This project was strongly inspired by Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Stub sorting, and also by the historical discussion on deletion reform.

Scripts and tools

• User:John Vandenberg/Deletion sorting tool - (Requires Twinkle - reported to be not working) Adds a 'delsort' tab when editing an AfD. The tab opens Compact list and adds the {{subst:delsort|<topic>}} to the AfD and adds the AfD to the deletion list.
• User:Pb30/Delsort tab (discontinued) - Adds a tab when editing AfD's that prompts user for a deletion list, then adds {{subst:delsort|<topic>}} to the AfD and opens the list in a popup window
• Deltab - Adds a tab when editing AfD's that adds a specific {{subst:delsort}}

Templates

• {{subst:delsort|<topic>|<signature>}} is used for tagging active AfD discussions.
• {{deletionlist|<topic>}} is the standard header for deletion lists. It should generally be enclosed in "<noinclude>" tags.
  • {{deletionlist-country|<country>}} is also used for countries
  • {{deletionlist-USstate|<state>}} is used for U.S. states.
• {{Topic|<topic>}} can be used to identify and link to other central pages related to a given topic.
