There are four major sporting codes in Australia that don't involve a bat or wickets.
Forcing one to use a nickname while three others use their official names is ridiculous. People, even Victorians, aren't so stupid that they can't recognise all four sports meaning the same thing. Believing in that is not a thoughtcrime.
