Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana (All-India History Collection Committee, abbrv. ABISY) is a subsidiary organisation of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), with the objective of rewriting the history of India in the light of modern scientific research and new archaeological findings to present an integrated and comprehensive history highlighting the social, cultural, religious, spiritual, economic, political aspects of life. It was founded in 1973 by Moropant Pingley, a pracharak of the RSS. The organisation holds that India's history was distorted by the British Raj, which created a false impression of Indian cultural diversity, and screened its uniformly Aryan past. The organisation runs regional chapters, which go by the name Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Samithi.
Ideology
The ideology of the ABISY is based on the belief that India was once a uniformly Hindu country, and that distortion by Western historians has created a false impression of cultural diversity. It believes in the (largely discredited) theory that the Aryans originated in India, and spread from there to the rest of Asia. It also centers its historical work around Hindu scriptures. One of the primary activities of the ABISY is to attempt to scientifically prove that folk traditions across India have been derived from Hindu beliefs. Another stated objective is to scientifically prove the existence of the Sarasvati River.
Organisation
The headquarters of the ABISY is at Keshav Kunj, the Delhi office of the RSS. Under the central office are 13 ksetra or provincial offices, each run by a president. These centres are responsible for connecting ABISY ideology to local cultural lore and tradition. ABISY has links to historians from multiple universities. In July 2014, Yellapragada Sudharashan Rao, the Head of the Andhra Pradesh chapter of ABISY was appointed as the Chairperson of Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) by the Bharatiya Janata Party government headed by Narendra Modi.
